I lost my childhood cartridge because I was a dumb kid. I ended up buying a used cartridge-only Black version & putting it in my childhood case.
I missed HGSS growing up and that was a month long quest to find a cartridge the seller didn't want $50+ for it.
Also missed B2W2 but those games have ballooned so high I've given up.

a few years ago the 3DS games were like $20 but they've been climbing as well. Combination of people wanting to play the games they're nostalgic for and people looking to have a good Pokemon experience, which you can't have in the newer games.

the reason why old games are so stupidly expensive is because people are using these games as a form of stock market. i had a roommate who had a stack of kuon hat filled his closet up to his knees. go price-check it right now.
gaming is a fricking clown market.

    >cards are like a fricking stock market onto themselves
Why the frick does this franchise have this problem? What magicks did GameFreak use to make Pokemon both super popular while also making thing appreciate in value to ridiculous degrees?

It's just western scalper culture. The games are dirt cheap everywhere else.

      >game cartridges are all overpriced if you want to buy one secondhand if it isn't the new generation
Yeah because they are a decade old and some of them are the least bought games in the franchise. Using the Jap market for the English market is plain moronic because the fact that something is in Jap is inherently limiting the size of its appeal.
      >cards are like a fricking stock market onto themselves
      That's every single collectible.

buy a used Japanese copy. westerners are upping the prices of old games for some reason

Seems fairly reasonable. It hasn't been produced in nearly 12 years and the target audience is children, notorious for losing and breaking stuff.

Play a ROM. It makes no difference and the secondary market doesn't support Gamefreak so who cares?

      >play a ROM
this too. downloaded soul silver on my r4 card from ages ago and it still works perfectly/can trade to my legit heart gold copy. there's really no point in wasting money on a real cart when you can just get the game for free quite easily.

    it's fricked
    >Gameboy/Advance Games aren't too pricey but the market is flooded with a million Chinese fakes that plague eBay
    >DS games are pricey with the chinese fake problem also starting to infect the market
    >3DS games are in the $20-$40 range, not many fakes, but also the quality takes a hit in this era
    >Switch games are switch games, you can find them used for a good price but you're also buying a fricking switch era game.

Nintendo is terrible when it comes to preservation of their old titles. DS is fricked especially because of the two screen shit. It's like they make their system intentionally gimmicky to make it harder to play the games on anything else but that system. So as a result you got desirable games in high demand but are not being produced anymore for a system not being produced anymore as well. Prices get jacked up due to supply and demand.

You can easily emulate DS games but you always got to deal with compromise of using one screen for a two screen system. So either having them both on the same screen or constantly flipping between the top and bottom screen with a button. Both are way less practical than playing it on native hardware.

Honestly even if Nintendo did release more virtual console DS games like they did on the Wii U, I doubt Game Freak would allow them to include DS Pokemon games since it would directly compete with their remakes

Companies could easily destroy this used game market grifter bullshit by making their games easier to play on modern consoles. Their laziness is taken advantage of by people looking to make easy money and making 2-3x the profit all going to their own pockets.

those are cheap compared to the games i want to buy but they're still too expensive. releasing them on virtualconsole would have crippled resale value but tpc/GF are morons

Putting custom firmware on a 3ds is piss easy and a ripped copy of one of these games is indistinguishable from a real copy, your moms will all be perfectly trade legal.

It’s not even like you can buy this stuff from Nintendo any longer, so paying a scalper for the physical copy won’t reward the labor of the creators. Literally zero ethical argument against piracy at this point.
