>Noooo don't use the most optimal method of killing him. >You must instead open up your glider and skydive a billion times on the ice on it's body.
Do divegays really?
when he flies up past you vertically you can shoot all 3 of his hearts in one go and go to the next phase. with the dives you have to wait for him to fire the spikes before you can hit him with a dive.

Killed it with arrows fast because it worked and didn't think about divebombing at all, I read about it online in the end and thought how stupid it is the arrows kill it since it sounds cooler doing it that way and I've dive-bombed it ever since for fun
Honestly infuriates me watching other people play just spam arrows. It reminds me that if I were born in any other time in history I would be a respected intellectual among these moronic commons.
Except that the cutscene introducing him literally shows the shiny ice weak points on the bottom. You can fight him without ever knowing he reveals the top layer.
How was anyone supposed to know you could divebomb into the ice? Actually frick that who actually THOUGHT divebombing into solid ice would work? These are the same people who think the laser shrine is some moron filter when in reality it punishes players who actually use common fricking sense.
Depending on how weak/strong the integrity of the ice is I'll either die from impact or die from freezing to death in ice cold water (but the ice will still crack. I know I have to state it explicitly because you 'tards can't put two and two together evidently)
Because you're lacking in critical thinking. It's okay btw.

You waited around long enough to notice the ice under the spikes or that it fired off the spikes.
When all you had to do was think "I wonder if the bottom is armored?"
Your ability to problem solve is lacking.
I never had to do that though, I just hopped on the ice three times to break it. Why would I think to dive through, that shit looks like it would hurt me
>How was anyone supposed to know you could divebomb into the ice?
Because you have to do it to get to the wind temple?
You didn't though? I got up there without divebombing into a single block of ice and had no idea I could even do that because the 1 time I tried just killed me on impact. Using arrows, especially with the bird companion, the story part with the bow and the slow down mechanic while aiming with a bow midair was much more intuitive and is the only mechanic of the two that is actually needed for multiple parts of the game.
When I first saw the thin ice on the way up to the temple I assumed you could fall into them from up high and break them immediately, but I just ended up taking fall damage each time, so by the time I got to Colgera I was under the impression that diving into his ice would lead to the same painful outcome.
I never divebombed on Ice. I jumped on it a couple times and it collapsed underneath me. In hindsight I get the connection, sure, but you're never put into a situation where you need to do that to continue.
There are many instances of cracked ice that breaks when you stand on it in Hebra and specifically leading up to Rito Village and I think even in the temple itself. The boss's weak points are protected by cracked ice, so my first instinct was to throw Link's weight into it to break through it. In fact, seeing the ice covering the weak points specifically made me think they were protected from standard weapons and I needed to crash through the ice.
The first time the game shows you ice there is no way or reason to divebomb into it. If anything, taking multiple jumps to break ice just reinforces the idea that it's hard and probably would deal fall damage.
This has already been addressed several times in the thread, most people did stationary jumps on the ice and still figured out how to apply that logic to divebomb Colgera.

There's a part on the path to the wind temple where it encourages you to jump from super high and land on ice. It was always teaching you that
Because it puts the ice at the bottom of a long drop, encouraging you to slam onto it

Game already kill you by dropping down into The Depths in the complete dark, leading too hitting the bottom without depth perception and thereby instant death unless you bottled a fairy.
Most laser death trap dives also involve hitting a solid surface after, meaning again: Instant death without the dive set.
Also this:
I approached immediately from below so the obvious weak points screamed arrow.
if you approach from the top you did nothing the entire fight so far and won't see the weak points until he does the attack so you think you're supposed to divebomb.
So basically, if you divebombed you're a passive beta while arrow chads reign supreme like usual.
Its a boss that is very easy to two cycle with fire keeze eyeballs.

>press jump button to stomp on a very particular ice surface
equals >divebomb into the boss that has ice powers and ice on it but not an ice surface that is indistinguishable but the ice you can and cannot break
>Wind temple >Boss fight requires you to fly around >Draft consistently pushes you up above the boss >Boss consistently disappears and reappears below the player >Game has a brand new mechanic where you can increase speed as you’re falling >Game introduces this to you right off the bat >Boss has 3 giant glowing circles of crystal/ice on its body
This is what happens when schools stop teaching children critical thinking. These people are literally incapable of developing thoughts of their own and must be explicitly told what to think and do.
Ironic that you say this and yet the game never tells you that you can break the ice with arrows. It does however teach you to dive through the ice. :^)
Using arrows is the "I have a hammer so all problems are nails" mentality, showing a complete inability to learn or think about anything beyond brute forcing a single solution to everything.

You're acting like using arrows was a somehow inferior or unintended way to defeat the boss. Arrows work. If this was a standard zelda game where you get a new item in a dungeon and that item was, for example, a spike you use while falling, I would have used that because that's how those games worked. You get new item in dungeon, you use it to defeat boss. But not in BotW and TotK. You get all the tools at the start and you use swords, arrows, and the tablet/arm abilities to defeat every enemy in the game.

Nta but arrow is pretty much an after thought for the devs. If it was the intended way then they would have start dropping you arrows right qway

Arrows are every where, what are you talking about? I'm pretty sure there is even a steward on the GSI that is all about informing you arrows and food can be found in crates. If you do just a bit of exploring you will have tons of arrows. If you are talking about the boss, oh gee. I wonder WHY they can have arrows spawning in for you in the middle of the sky with no land near by, in a fight that is all about being mid air.
>It does however teach you to dive through the ice.
It does not as evident by the anons in this very thread stating they only ever jumped on the ice to break it. You just have to put the pieces they did give you together. People that shot the ice with arrows did so because there is literally no other way to attack successfully when airborne. Im sorry you’re moronic.
He's right though. Even if there are ice blocks you break through in the world, surely there will be a difference between cold water and a shield created by a boss.
There are many instances of cracked ice that breaks when you stand on it in Hebra and specifically leading up to Rito Village and I think even in the temple itself. This is true too. You'd clearly need something heavy to break that ice, an arrow just doesn't seem enough. Bad game design or player diversity?
This is why 90% of Ganker seethes over this game. It is the ultimate litmus test of creativity. They ran around on foot shooting bomb arrows all game and get mad when people talk about all the awesome shit the game let's you do that they didn't even think to try. Because they suck at vidya.
>doing something an impractical way is fun
Not really. If they wanted us to dive bomb, they could’ve telegraphed it more. Or just made arrows less effective. The fight was over within 1-2 minutes.

>If they wanted us to dive bomb, they could’ve telegraphed it more.
I divebombed the boss and genuinely appreciated that the game didn't outright explain it. If Tulin just explained what to do like it was some fricking Sony game (or Skyward Sword) I would have been pissed.

>Not really.
Yes really. Diving and weaving between the spikes is much more fun than sniping him with keese wing arrows.
>How was anyone supposed to know you could divebomb into the ice? Actually frick that who actually THOUGHT divebombing into solid ice would work?
Because the game shows you MANY times on the ascent that jumping on ice breaks it. There's even a bouncy sail under a big block of ice that you drop in from a high place to break. The whole temple and pre-temple is about using the wind to ascend and descend with good timing.
When Colgera shoots his spines it reveales some cracked ice so it's immediately obvious what you have to do.
>dungeon boosts you super high into the air >boss spawns below you and shoots rocks at you >rocks reveal soft glassy inside >[urge to divebomb intensifies]
idk how people couldn't resist wanting to dive thru the hoops
Yes, and behold your screen shot just makes my point stronger.
In the intro it shows the top is armored and the bottom is wide open. By the time you get to the boss you should be very familiar with arrow time. So right away the game is hinting at you should go under it. If you wait for the boss to start attacking you will notice the ice on the top, but that seems like a pointless thing to do as long as you have bows/arrows.
dunno, maybe it all just depends on where you are during the start of battle.. I was high as frick in the air after the cutscene and was just gliding in place .. but in this video the guy starts off almost level with the boss, so it'd make more sense to try using your bow

For me, I dove instantly so I could use the camera for a picture so I was just under him the whole time
The exposed back literally looks exactly like the ice patches you've NEEDED to break in order to progress on the path up to the temple (lol barely even a temple)
It's not the game's fault you refused to pay attention to something literally spelled out to you
I used arrows for 2 of the 6 hits because it felt good to hit him with the divebomb then get his under belly as he was going up
My literally though process >first temple >damn this guy looks cool >gald they're doing unique bosses again instead of cumblight ganon >wtf we're flying the whole time >he's shooting spikes at me >there's ice on his back ICE ON HIS BACK >*DIVEBOMBS THROUGH* >OH YEAH KINO'S BACK FRICK YEAH >this is a good boss fight
Just a real shame it was so easy honestly
I think it could have been better if he had 5 or 7 targets that were half the size or even smaller. Infact maybe it would be cool if you had to reveal the weak spots with arrows somehow THEN divebomb it. That way morons can stop complaining.
All the bosses needed to be more challenging tbh
>Wind Boss
easy no matter what, designed around being able to be beat with no weapon. Pretty "hype" the first time you fight it.
>Fire boss
Use Rollout for super effective damage. that is all.
>Water Boss
Cheese it with a hydrants, a big wheel and homing bot. Or Spalshfruit arrows every where.
>Lightning Boss
Not too bad, yea it's simple and easy but it's pretty much a classic Zelda boss. The only one that does not feel super cheeseable. Perhaps I'm not big brained enough to think of something.
>Robot Boss
Worse Gimmick in the game.
>Phantom Ganondorf
"Epic", too bad I fought tons of them already and knew what to do.
>Ganondorf
Pretty good. I wish they had more fights on this level.
>Dragondorf
Does the Spectacle better while having some kind of fricking way of attacking
>Kohgah
Joke fights to show off what can be built.
I can't remember why I divebombed it, but I used arrows + keese wings for the other encounters in the depths. >These are the same people who think the laser shrine is some moron filter when in reality it punishes players who actually use common fricking sense
I actually did get filtered by this though. How were you supposed to know this after previous shrines showcased lasers as damaging obstacles? I don't recall any indicators that there was something under there.
>Hmm shooting arrows at him feels kind of clunky and shitty, no way this is how you're supposed to do it
Fly up a second time, notice how big and fricking obvious the ice circle is, and remember being able to break ice on certain platforms by jumping on it on the way up to the temple.
>Try divebombing, it fricking works.
Do you need to be fricking spoonfed everything you babbling fricking moron? It was already spoon feeding you the answer, so I guess what you really need is to be fricking force fed. Frick you. You're the reason there's annoying popups and tutorials in the middle of boss fights.
Ganker is once again proving a majority of you dumb fricking homosexuals suck at video games, and at life.
And this Anon just confirmed what I been thinking but also thought "There is no way, this is Zelda, a fricking Nintendo game." , but behold.
Divebombers are just shit at aiming even with slo mo.
I'm more surprised to see so many people putting "arrows" like maybe bomb arrows but who has that many by the time this boss appears for most people?
dive bombing seemed like the only way
>game presents an obstacle before you and gives you tools to solve it >WHY WON'T IT EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT TO DO? >game presents a boss to fight you after a dungeon that demonstrates tools and mechanics used to break ice >WHY DIDN'T THE GAME TELL ME I COULD DO THAT?
Actually it does. you're just as moronic and feel extremely upset at realizing that you're a waste of life and should have a nice day. You're dumber than DSP because you're in denial about it.
>You're dumber than DSP because you're in denial about it. And you feel extremely upset at realizing that you're a waste of life and should have a nice day.
Imagine being this much of a edgelord brainlet over a Zelda game.
>can jump onto ice to break it >diving into it destroys it faster >boss has you floating around a lot, easily lets you get out of the way via Tulin, and removes a bunch of rock spikes to reveal an obvious pink weak spot
It's not that hard guys.
Why is this even an argument? Both methods work because both methods were intended by the developers. If they didn't want you shooting it with arrows that would have been removed.
The laser shrine only filters people who don't read the shrine titles. It was test of faith or something for that one.
if you touch the lasers that are first presented to you, you just fall into a void and take damage. at that point i just pulled out a rocket shield and bypassed the whole thing. the second set of lasers actually drop you down to a lower level though so i did that one properly
this thread is my first reveal that you can divebomb ANY ice. I can't think of any reason I'd ever go 'hmm maybe this one case of plummeting into a solid surface won't fricking kill me'. I just jump smashed the environment ice and arrow'd the boss ice. hell I'm reading this thread right now and I still don't see any reason I'd have divebomb smashed anything anyways when bullet time seems faster and more reliable considering how fricking terrible aerial movement is anyways
I did the same, but then I extended that logic to diving when I was flying through the air during the boss fight since standing and jumping weren't options any more.
Actually, I tried falling onto it without divng once and did in fact take fall damage (and only partially broke the ice), so yes, the game conditioned me to believe diving would also cause damage.
Same. I figured you'd just take fall damage if you dropped on them from too high and would need to do it multiple times. On the boss I figured bomb arrows were the answer since I couldn't jump on them.
I jumped on the ice leading to the temple and dive-bombed when I was in the boss fight. No guides, it was just intuitive because I knew Link's body weight could break cracked translucent ice. I was so spoiler-free that I stopped looking at Ganker or anything on the internet that could have Zelda spoilers the moment someone mentioned there were leaks weeks prior to release and didn't come back until I fully beat the game just a couple weeks ago.
Nooooo you can't just use an item to beat a boss!!!!!!! You have to throw yourself at it in the off chance a mechanic you have zero reason to believe exists actually does!!! I bet you use weapons, items, and zonai tools to fight monsters too pleb!!!!
>a mechanic you have zero reason to believe exists
Do you have the memory capacity of a goldfish? You had to break through multiple sheets of ice with Link's body weight to get to the temple just minutes prior.
I stood on the stationary sheet of ice and jumped up and down. I did not climb to the top of the wind temple and hurl myself towards the ground like a massive moron. I am not going to chase this thing around the sky when i can just hit it with arrows. It's cool that you can crash through the boss but that definitely is not how you're expected to fight it.
>I stood on the stationary sheet of ice and jumped up and down.
So did I, and when standing still and jumping up and down weren't options against the boss I dove into its cracked ice exterior. It was a natural progression.
>It's cool that you can crash through the boss but that definitely is not how you're expected to fight it.
Except Tulin has special dialogoue for when you do.
>You had to break through multiple sheets of ice with Link's body weight to get to the temple just minutes prior.
What are you talking about Anon
You just had to jump on those ships to bounce higher and glide to other ships
>What are you talking about Anon
There are multiple instances of pic related going up to the Wind Temple. There's even at least 1 airship underneath a sheet of ice that you can dive through and bounce on in one swift motion.
In a cave that you have to go to before traveling to the Wind Temple.

Not that anon but do you HAVE to do the cave? yea I did but do you HAVE to speak with the NPCs or can you just go to where you would find Tulin? I could see that being a thing people could do but I don't know if the NPC are required.

I don't know, but it's just an example because I couldn't find any screenshots that showed all the ice you have to break when you're with Tulin going up to the Wind Temple on all the floating blocks.
I played BotW so arrows. You're either fricking moronic or maybe played BotW on release and never again if you divebombed. Both temple bosses were built around air arrows
I used bombflower arrows to blow up the ice leading to the Temple and thought that was how it worked. Why would I jump on solid ice thinking it would break? Why would I throw myself HEAD FIRST into ice and expect anything else but killing myself? When I got to the boss I was pissed because I had no bombs and went to farm more. The game does a really bad job explaining things.
Go dive head first into a frozen lake and tell me who the moron is. Not my fault I thought I could apply common sense to a fricking video game but then I have to remember most of you can't even envision 3D objects in your mind. Black person.
There is one ice patch with solid ground under it in the sky, so if that was your first interaction with ice you probbaly avoided divebombing altogether after
>hurr why doesn't the video game reflect real life exactly
This is the same logic as saying Link should have broken limbs after falling from any not small height
Dumb amerimutt
Yes. In any other situation in the entire game divebombing into a solid object will kill you. I can understand people trying it if they have a fairy on reserve, but otherwise that's just suicidal.
>divebombing from a high place to the ground is death
This boss fight does have a constant updraft of air beneath it, meaning you can cancel the divebomb at any time and go back to floating upwards with the paraglider. So it's not really a risk in that respect.
I'm pretty sure it's intentional. Afterall it's leg gets stuck for a second after its attack. I think it even lifts the leg with you on it so you can jump on its head.
The leg gets stuck so you can destroy it with Yunobo. When the leg isn't stuck it will avoid Yunobo. Also you can use Ascend on Gohma's main body and pop out right on top of its eyeball which I realized during a rematch fight.
Well yea but do you really need it. It's almost impossible for yunobo to miss. Also they did make the legs climb able, so it was probably something they anticipated.
You could do that, or you could do the thing that you've been doing for most of that section of the story. Use Yunobo to break the red marbled rocks. But that seems like something to keep in mind for when/if they add Master Quest.
Imagine a master quest version that keeps adapting to you. >Shoot the eye and it grows armour in front >Ascend and it grows spikes underneath >Break a leg and it gets reinforced with iron >Climb a leg and it gets covered in ice >Melt the ice and the next time it will summon rain to protect from fire
It would be a pain to program but it would be an amazing fight considering how many ways you can fight that boss.

When Gohma gets to the point of lifting its leg to dodge Yunobo it literally reads your inputs so that you can't hit it when the legs are all free.

I'm hoping Master Quest is more than just numbers going up on enemies. Expanding bosses move sets and abilities to counter the player would be nice.
Perhaps give Coldera a way to avoid your attacks and actually go after you. Not just on rails. Think Moldrom, but in the sky.
You could do that, or you could do the thing that you've been doing for most of that section of the story. Use Yunobo to break the red marbled rocks. But that seems like something to keep in mind for when/if they add Master Quest.
>Divebombers had arrows as a backup plan. >Did arrow users have a plan B?
Thats logically backwards, arrows should be plan A and divebombs plan B >arrows are a limited resource >divebombs are not >therefore arrows are the backup plan because???
What, you afraid of running out of dive bombs?
If you ran out of arrows/bows. there is a good chance you would try divebombing it, some where in the thread there is a screenshot of a dialog box where Tulin is telling you to try diving.
I've had 200+ arrows in my inventory for basically the entire game. I never even bought any like I had to all the time in BotW. Maybe I was just smashing more crates or being more frugal with my shots. I don't know.
Arrows are much MUCH more common in Tears.
I assume they took in to account people who bee line right to the story quests and don't take time to explore/gather first.
he starts so far under you, so i dove through the first circle, and then after he teleports away and charges your vertically from below, i shot the other passing circles with bomb arrows. i think its just like 2 cycles to win.
At least you used critical thinking. You weren't wrong either, it's more effective to use fire arrows than normal ones. Just goes to show that the boss is well designed when there are several ways to beat it, some faster than others.
It's well designed, as a spectacle. As a boss fight, it's one of the worse in the series. >Wait for enough of the top to be exposed then shoot it and/or dive bomb while avoiding attacks, go back up and aim for the exposed ice over the weak point. Do this one more time.
or >dive just below it and break all its weak points open in one go, then when it goes vertical break all the weak points. You only need to do this twice.
In fact I think it's even weak on spectacle, the moment you understand it does not really attack or try to avoid you and you don't even need to wait for an opening, it becomes such a fast "fight" that there is no time for spectacle.
>enter boss fight >it has no way to give you arrows >you can't leave or run away >remember that TotK always gives you a way to restock on necessary items if you're locked in a fight so you can never soft-lock the game >realize that arrows can't be the solution because you could run out >learn to divebomb
EZPZ
I have never run out of resources during a boss fight in any Zelda game. Though I did notice the weapons around the room during the Ganon fight in BotW, I never had to use them.
Whether you have or not isn't the point, the point is that BotW and TotK will give you a stock somewhere of any required limited item any time you're locked in someplace.
you can throw shit, so that's wrong but it's also much more difficult because it doesn't stop time
You should have had to use/throw it's own armor against the ice to damage the boss, that's a fact. Divebombing/arrows are both gay.
Yeah, but I also placed BOTW, so I remember the arrows you needed to shoot down the divine beast Vah Medoh's cannons as well as with Vah Ruta and the shock arrows.
Different games, sure, but only barely. If shooting a few of my hundreds of arrows at this thing does the job, then why would I risk diving on it and dying from fall damage?
Arrows because I never considered dive-bombing as an option. I just assumed this thing was freezing cold and would do contact damage if I even touched it.
>I just assumed this thing was freezing cold and would do contact damage if I even touched it.
Why are you even playing video games if you're unwilling to try risks?
The game lets you do it. It's not about not taking risks, it's just that the arrows are the first thing I tried, and they worked, and that's all I needed.
>standing still far back shooting timestopped arrows for the 1000th time like a pussy >blasting 25362574 mph through the middle of the fricking boss like a madlad
Hmm which is more kino again?
>you can kill it by flying into it's weak points
Well, I guess that explains why it's so fricking easy. I used a bow thinking it's the only way to hit it, because the first time I did it I did not wait for the ice spikes to start being fired. I assumed it was meant to be shot from below.
I used fire arrows. In my mind tool+elemental damage made sense. I never considered crashing through it because I thought it would do freezing damage to me. I did float around and dive a lot for a positioning, and got to a point where I could consistently dive through its pincers and set up 3 shots. It's my favorite of the temple bosses for the maneuverability involved.
Both options are correct. One just takes more precision but doesnt spend a resource. Personaly i first tried fire arrows but realized i didnt need fire arrows. The advantage of the arrows is that you can hit the boss in any orientation, something i quickly exploited and destroyed the boss with in what i can only assume was half the timr than if i had waited for every upright alignment. It wasnt just an effective start it was overhwlemingly effective strat so there was no need to seek out a resourceless one, especially considering the game just stocked me up with loads of arrows. Thats the part you all keep leaving out. If arrows werent so effective people would have found the other method shortly after. This whole arguement is dumb and/or silly.
Yeah, if you break crates you accumulate hundreds of arrows over time. Resource-wise, it isn't even a factor unless you're doing a no-bow challenge run, which I'm not sure if that is possible considering Riju exists.
I wonder how many players knew about the crates. As far as i can recall the game never explicitly tells you but its definitely something most players should stumble into knowing through collateral damage during fights and such.
In BotW I would pick up every single crate with magnesis and drop it on other crates to get the innards. Now that you can do it on wooden ones as well, no boxes were safe from my wrath.
>explore the entire world map before ever touching a temple >have a 2-star upgraded set of skydiving gear >dive onto colgera with no fear of fall damage
Started out using arrows, as soon as I saw the spikes he shot out was from his covering I immediately felt compelled to do it the right way.
Colgera might be extremely easy but he's still a fun as hell boss for the spectacle.
That's my reaction to every hoverbike cuck who uses it, says it's no fun, and then keeps using it while blaming the game for "allowing them" to build a hoverbike as if it's not their own personal problem.
Hover Bike, while cheap and really useful is a pain in the ass to get right. Plus you can't carry shit(not that it matters much in the depths)
I like doing a "door" sized plank of wood, one fan in the front center facing down, One each on the back corners at a 45 angle down n back, and a control stick. No fussing getting the angles just right, it just flies straight and slowly climbs altitude. Not only can you go higher but you can also descend. Press forward slightly to go faster and all the way to go down. Pull back slightly to slow down, pull all the way back to go almost vertical but also slightly backwards. Korok/Crystal? No problem slap it on the front and away you go. You can even land it once you get used to it. It's just like 3 or 6 zonite if you don't have a door near by, even if you do and it's not the right type of wood that you used for the autobuild, due to how simple it is to build perfectly you can assembly it your self without much time.
I've been in tons of threads where people use the hoverbike as a primary criticism of the game. Literally saying, "It's not fun because I can just build a hoverbike and bypass all the challenge." When asked why they just stop doing it because they don't think it's fun, they lose their minds at the mere thought of not doing the "most optimal" thing at all moments. The whole argument boils down to, "The game shouldn't let me choose to ruin my own fun so it's a bad game because it didn't force me to have fun."
>building is a main mechanic in the game >the depths constantly give you shit at regular Zonai platforms to build stuff >build a car for a while to traverse, but many areas have a lot of verticality >build a hoverbike-type thing >easily traverse the depths and realize there's just vast stretches of nothing with one biome (unless you're near the Goron area) >complain about the depths being an empty, boring, and pointless addition to the game and a waste of a map the size of surface Hyrule >some dumb gay on Ganker tells me that I'm optimizing the fun out of the game
Shut up, moron. The fun in making contraptions is being pushed to innovate for the purposes of solving problems. Innovating for the purpose of creating more problems is dumb as hell.

The people I was talking about were doing things like hoverbiking to the end of a labyrinth and then complaining that the game didn't actively force them to engage with the labyrinth and that type of shit.

The depths would be more fun if there was only one chasm and you had to explore from there. No being able to just ignore massive swaths of the map by just going back to the surface and jumping in to another hole.
I also think there should be a Stable for Stalhorses down there,

When I did the quest with the statues and they talked about people living in the depths in ancient times I got really excited that I'd find at least one town of some new race down there and was very disappointed.

I mean you see the ruins all over the place, it was the Zonai that lived down there. They also were genocided by Ganondorf, you know the whole reason for the game.

Yeah, but the first statue you find is of some unknown race so I thought I'd find a small settlement of them in the depths.
>be me >be confused >tulin: link we need to find a way to damage it try diving! >be 2000 iq divebomber
divebomb chads we definitely won!! INTENDED SMART KID GAME WAY!!
Reminds me of applemilk1988 who learned Japanese through anime. Westerners were all shocked and impressed with how well she spoke Japanese, while Japanese people all mocked her for sounding like a moronic children's cartoon character.
I used keese-wing arrows. Very effective. Very easy to hit it with. The boss died in like, a minute or so. I can see how diving on it would be more fun, but I had a lot of fun shooting it, too.
Why did nintendo even allow you to do these anti-fun ways to beat these things? In shrines you can also use bomb arrows to activate the big round switches. They literally had to program into the game that you could do that. pic unrelated
Because big round switches are not activated by specific blocks or balls, they are activated by a certain amount of force applied to them, which those blocks and balls but also bombs are capable of producing. The designed the game in such a way that as long as you get to the end, all solutions are viable.
>In shrines you can also use bomb arrows to activate the big round switches. They literally had to program into the game that you could do that.
No, it probably means that they programmed them to work on a physics level, like they did for most things. Instead of programming the targets to activate when a list of specific objects touch them, they program the targets to activate when a certain amount of linear force is applied over a sufficient area. It just so happens that bomb arrows apply enough force over enough area to activate the switches. Probably the same reason arrows work on Colgera, the ice breaks under force rather than under more specific circumstances so arrows apply enough force to damage it.
I consider this a different issue to the colgera fight. In the colgera fight people are finding a working strat immediately and just running with it for the rest of the fight. People who are cheesing shrines are going through huge amounts of frustration trial and erroring their way to a solution that just kinda barely works to get them out of dealing with a puzzle they cant figure out. That cant be fun. You all know exactly which shrine im talking about too, its the one with the rails where you need to build a platform that will transition smoothly to a new rail. Watching some people 'solutions' you wonder how desperate they must have gotten to arrive at that. Especially the ones that are a solution that fails before a go for broke jump and glide to the exit.
There was a point in the fire temple where there was a rail that went upwards which had a broken half so a cart wouldn't work on it. I had already used the hooks they had lying around for something else and they were off the platform. I just slowly tightrope walked up the rail since fusing a minecart to my shield grinding uphill wasn't viable. I was effectively "soft locked" but was able to just slowly scoot across the rail to advance.
If you didnt know, saving and then reloading same save will place any objects back to their spawn position (and despawn any built zonai devices). But hey, if it works it works.
Admit it: you didn't know you could b***h slap the gloom right back at Ganondorf.
Lost my first try to the final phase with like one hit remaining. GUTTED. Figured out the goo deflect on the next try and made him pay.
>the one with the rails where you need to build a platform that will transition smoothly to a new rail
People had difficulty with this? It's the most utterly basic of engineering problems.
Indeed they did, loads of twitter vids and first hand experiences from friends. I moved as effortlessly through that one as any other shrine. I just dont understand. The only shrine that gave me trouble was the one with the rotating cube where i forgot i had ascend for 10 minutes, felt very stupid considering the cube for as long as i did.
The only shrine that gave me problems was the one with the spinning propeller and the upside down torches around it because I had no idea that those were torches and never thought to aim the fire at them. I kept trying to figure out what it was trying to teach me about vertical fire vortexes and never aimed the fire outward. At one point I was carrying around a flamethrower for no real reason out of frustration and it happened to light up one of the torches, I literally shouted out loud, "THOSE ARE FRICKING TORCHES????" and promptly beat the shrine.
My first day playing TotK I was exploring the Great Sky Island getting the powers. I got back to the room Link wake up in with the rotating gears and I could not figure out for the life of me how to get up to them, I knew I had to rewind the gears, but getting to them in the first place was just beyond me. But I was really tired so I put the game down and went to sleep. Woke up the next morning, remembered Ascend was a thing and solved it instantly.
Man I must have played the fire temple completely wrong. I keep seeing people on Ganker saying they had a lot of trouble with it or that the minecart wasn't fun, but I just used Ascend and glided everywhere.
I didn't have trouble, I just realized I used the hooks already and needed an alternate way up that short section. I figured if I went slow enough I could just walk along the rail and it worked.
But for short sections I also fused a minecart to my shield and just grinded along the rails when possible.
>the one with the rails where you need to build a platform that will transition smoothly to a new rail
People had difficulty with this? It's the most utterly basic of engineering problems.
You cannot "cheese" anything. Any option you have in a trial is there on purpose, they can restrict you as hard as they want. For instance, they don't let you use your zonai capsules. They could limit every other option if they so chose.
There is an obvious intended way to do many things, there is also ways to completely ignore it with creative use of game mechanics. Some times it's as easy as going in to the shrine with a rocket shield. There is no rockets in the shrine and you can't use capsules but it lets you keep the gear you came in with. The shrine is built around not having access to rockets, but they don't limit your ability to prep.
My first instinct, going into that one blind, was to cheese it super hard, webm related.
Recall is utterly broken. Would've been better if you unlocked some abilities later in the game, especially Glider.
I bet not even the level designer knew how to adjust for ascend, ultrahand, recall, glider and bringing your own zonai devices so they didn't even bother.
The only thing the fixed from BOTW is lifting yourself up. Now you can lift up tons of stone slabs, but not a single loose pebble
I know what it means, and I am quite sure the devs are aware of what can be achieved with recall. If they didn't want you using it they'd disable it in there.

the devs are aware that you can cheese a lot of riddles, doesn't even know a fraction of the possible cheeses.
A glitch doesn't stop being a glitch just because the dev decides not to remove it
It's very clear that most Shrines have one specific solution in mind.
It surely is not the level designers intention that you shoot bomb arrows to solve their puzzle, but it is per design to not restrict players freedom for the sake of forcing the player into one solution.

most shrines I have come across seem to have a puzzle you can solve and then a "alternate" way of doing things for lack of a better term. there are very few shrines that have been strictly enforced by the puzzles that are the obvious solution. some of the shrines are rather obvious with the alternate solution, however.

>>oh no, this thing I want/need fell off the sky island, lets say like a single Luminous stone >>run to edge and look down, I can see the trail and use it to pinpoint where that single stone is, recall it to where I am.
How is this a problem in any way? It's clearly one of the main intended uses for the ability.

It was a single luminous stone that looked liked it fell all the way to the surface from one of the mining islands. It's not like I caught it right as it fell.
It might be intended but it's still op. Not that it really matters, it does not break the game. This is not a multiplayer game. It's just a really powerful ability that can do things that you would not assume, like pulling a resource item all the way back from the surface when I'm no where near it.
could still cheese it with the same method. >lift plate >stand on plate with ball >recall plate >lift ball >recall ball >climb up the ladder and pull up ball
Based. I never beat the shrines the intended way. It's far more fun to try to find an alternative way, especially since the intended path is usually brain-dead and boring.
Thank god for that. I've never beaten the final phase of a king gleeok the intended way. How the frick are you supposed to gain height in temporary static locations while also dodging rapid fire icicles. It's so moronic designed that I don't feel bad cheesing it at all. I just attach gleeok wings to my arrows and shoot it from the ground.
That seems even worse that riding the lightning updraft. At least that way you can choose between different updrafts. With recall you're a sitting duck. Maybe I just had the worst RNG imaginable but when I fought it I wouldn't even had gotten off the ground before the next one hit me.
the icicles follow a pattern, once you notice it's pretty easy to avoid
combine that with immunity to lightning from the lightning helm makes the "intended" solution pretty do-able
this boss was so ass easy, I accidentally beat it just by letting the wind carry me around like a fricking ragdoll. easily the worst one in the game, but it looks pretty cool, ig. looks better than that shitty octorock guy.
I wouldn't waste hover stones for something that simple. There's usually the perfect solution nearby. Also since this is apparently a "did you know" thread, did you know you can fire hover stones fused with arrows and they'll automatically activate mid air. Pretty useful if you quickly need to catch your breath mid air.
he asked for whats the most optimal. A single Hover stone has been enough for every single one since I realized you could do that. Hell I'm pretty sure there is a sign that has a hover stone right next to it.
I wish I did, because it would have made the fight more fun. Sadly, the game never gives any sort of indication that gloom can ever be interacted with in any way like that so I had no reason to even attempt it.
One might be able to infer that since the Master Sword is stronger now it can handle Gloom, but yeah, there's little else that points towards it other than the spear variant of the attack being a b***h to dodge unless you run around.
>One might be able to infer that since the Master Sword is stronger now it can handle Gloom
Not really, since getting the Master Sword was one of the first things I did (before any form of main quest progression after getting the glider) and in the 150+ hours I had it before fighting Ganondorf it never had any ability to dispel gloom or repel gloom attacks or even do anything different to Gloom Hands compared to other weapons and never felt stronger than normal in any way at any time.
>same as it had against Malice in BotW
There's the rub, though, it's the SAME as in BotW, not different or better, and in BotW you never deflect attacks with the Master Sword either because you always use the shield parry for that even against Calamity Ganon.

That's fair. I mentioned I didn't think about reflecting them myself, so it's not like I have a good argument against you. It's neat that it's in though, even if it could have been conveyed a bit better.
If you run toward Ganondorf the homing gloom dissipates. A similar thing happens with the Yiga Blademasters and their homing ground attack, the solution is to dodge the shockwave and run at them and attack because the shockwave disappears when you get close enough to them, so I just applied that logic to Ganondorf's homing attack and it worked every time.
I only tried it cause the gloom projectiles he fires at you (the attack with 3 homing balls) seemed like the kind of thing you might be able to hit back like other Ganon fights. But yeah otherwise definitely no actual indication it's possible. I suppose they probably just expect you to try cause the Master Sword gets destroyed in the intro when Link tries to deflect the gloom, and the whole point of Zelda stashing it in her brain for hundreds of years was to power it up so that wouldn't happen again
I didn't, and I feel like an idiot because 9 times out of 10 there's a Dead Man's Volley segment in final bosses in Zelda.
Also why is that dude using ATK up food, it doesn't stack with Fierce Deity Armor.
>Also why is that dude using ATK up food, it doesn't stack with Fierce Deity Armor.
Some people are moronic when it comes to video games, even when the game gives an obvious visual indication that you've maxed out a bonus they'll think you can stack up beyond that.
>Some people are moronic when it comes to video games, even when the game gives an obvious visual indication that you've maxed out a bonus they'll think you can stack up beyond that.
It's actualy the other way around, game dev are so moronic hiding random buff and mechanic dataminer found 5 year later, you better just take everything avaible, maybe it work after all.
I did not. I just ran out of it. But given the pedigree of the game I suppose I should have thought of that. But you haven't reflected anything else with the sword in BotW or TotK before that point so I would say it's fallen out of use as a mechanic.
I just bomb jumped headshot him or ran outta there, had no idea you could do that also didnt know the fricking Master Sword didnt break during this fight because I didnt use it till he was almost dead
That's certainly not the case in Master Mode. I had a hell of a time against Ganon because of his regenerating health while he went immune and I couldn't get the parry timing right. The Master Sword broke on me once early on, regenerated, and broke a second time before I finally got him down.
yeah but Link pulls it out automatically during the cutscene and the whole side story with Zelda is about making it powerful enough to beat Ganondorf, so I dunno, I just figured you were supposed to use it
I wish the sword worked like that for the whole game like when gloom hands/Phantom shows up it doesn't lose durability at all
its still weird that only when you are on a Lynels back weapons dont lose durability
It's thematically appropriate. Zelda had that sword nestled in her forehead for who knows how many years, might as well fuse part of her to it when you go whip Ganondorf's ass
I still don't get what people mean with divebomb the ice. It has fricking spikes on top. Does it turn around eventually? If so, how am I supposed to know that it eventually exposes it's weak spot. It never survived that long for me. In reality all "dive bomb Chads" are just too bad at the game to 1cycle both phases of the boss.
First hit on him I got with the divebomb strategy since his segments were clearly made of similar thin ice sheets the game had showed off several times before, the kind that break under Link’s feet if you jump on them a few times (so satisfying btw, just like jumping on icy puddles irl).
Then he spent a few minutes flying around without positioning for another opportunity to divebomb him. I then tried out shooting some arrows as he flew past, realised that also works and never looked back. >captcha MN0G4Y
I used arrows when I fought him in the wind temple. When I encountered him in the depths, I had 0 arrows so I attempted to dive bomb him after reading a post on Ganker saying they did it. It worked but holy frick he hits like a truck, every hit did all of my hearts except 1/4th.
i thought going into the air was so you could do the slo-mo bow and arrow thing. i don't see why anyone would think about divebombing the boss. i assumed that hitting the boss would do damage to ME not them
How did you avoid the full-stage ground attack that you have to avoid using the updrafts? I tried avoiding it with just a single jump but it never worked and I HAD to use the paraglider.
>full-stage ground attack
Huh? He never attacked me on the ground, and I had to refight him dozens of times. In fact he never really attacked me at all in his first phase except when he sometimes collides into my aircraft. I am talking about the boss rush in ganon's army arena so maybe he acts slightly different from the temple arena.
In his second phase he creates tornadoes BUT you spawn in the air so I bullet-time him with arrows before reaching the ground. Otherwise I'm pretty fricked cuz the tornadoes make it hard to build an aircraft. I made stamina potions to last longer in the air and used the dusk bow that is on the veeeery top of hyrule caste for far shots.
What is the point of lying like this? >need to jump into a chasm with no water to land safely, only way to survive is a fairy or trying to grab a wall right before dying >need to grab enough weapons for the old king's army >need to grab enough weapons for the boss rush >need enough arrows to one-cycle Colgera >need weapons for Ganon
Not even speedrunners go straight to Ganon without some preparation, bruteforcing your way past all that would take lots of hours banging your head against a wall until you barely pull it off
I had to do plateau (which had a lot of arrows and bombs), explored some caves/wells (which I found fairies in), explored hyrule castle (which has really good equipment), bought arrows from beetle too. I suppose that isn't EXACTLY straight but I didn't do anything else. No quests or stories or other shrines. Also ganon's army drops a ton of weapons as well.
>need to jump into a chasm with no water to land safely
I grab a plank, levitate it over the chasm, bring it back, stand on it, use recall, let it fall into chasm, and every 3 seconds I kill its momentum with recall so I don't fall off. Not saying it's easy but I didn't lose any fairies getting to ganon. I saved a lot.
That's fine then, going straight down right after the tutorial just isn't reasonable since you do need some starting resources to deal with all the enemies
>Huh? He never attacked me on the ground, and I had to refight him dozens of times.
Oh, so you're larping. Good to know.
>He never attacked me on the ground
Dude, he spams the frick out of the AOE move especially in the second phase.
Not even speedrunners go straight to Ganon without some preparation, bruteforcing your way past all that would take lots of hours banging your head against a wall until you barely pull it off
I'm about to blow your fricking mind >find depth hole >take out to gliders >glue them so the noses touch >lower into hole, bring back, stand on it, recall, cancel recall over hole
This is how I got into the depths first time and it was kino. They glow in the chasm's darkness. It's a slow descent down.
I dive bombed him a little bit but I arrowed the last part when he flew past me cuz frick him.
I kind of wish instead of it being wait for him to do his attack and hit him 6 times it was a combination of using dive bomb attacks when he leaves himself open and arrowing his weak spots when he leaves them open, I think that would have been more interesting overall.
Yeah the correct order is:
1) divebomb
2) arrows when he attacks vertically from the portal under you
3) divebomb again
4) rinse and repeat for phase 2
Know what doesn't make sense? The boss rush leading up to Ganon with the Gibdo Queen. You can't kill the spawners without Riju's specific lightning blast
I broke every ice puddle I came across in Hebra by hopping on it 3 times. Every time I was like why are these here. When I saw the big ice in the sky temple, I landed on it gently and hopped on it 3 times like all the other ice I had seen up until that point. So, it never ocurred to me that you could dive bomb through any of the ice. It's solid. Ramming into something like that head-first didn't seem smart.
Both.
I honestly didn't think of shooting arrows into it from below.
At first I went with divebombing, though I thought you had to actually do a dive attack into the hole to go through it, instead of doing a full dive right through.
But then I saw how it flew up after you dive through one hole and had a thought realizing it always angles itself belly towards you if you keep moving properly.
So in the end, I went with >Dive attack the first part >Fly back up >Dodge the upswing >Time the arrow slo-mo to the moment the undamaged belly lines up with me and shoot it out >Fly again for a second to get the third hole lined up >Repeat the arrow shot
I think it's the most badass way to deal with it honestly. Still counts as a one cycle too.
Why, Diving through incoming icicles, grazing them slightly, feeling like I'm Top Gun's Maverick and diving straight through his sensitive vegana like one big dramatic motherfricker, of course.
>divebomb keks >can only destroy a single crystal per pass >bowchads >ends the entire fight in a single pass on bullet time
I think I will stick to bows thanks.
I appreciate there are multiple ways to do things. It seems unfair to call me a moron for using fire arrows on an ice boss though. It’s such an easy, standard Zelda boss regardless. Typical 3 weak points you have to hit. Touching the bosses at all usually results in damage, so fricking forgive me for not divebombing into it. If the game really intended me to dive bomb, it could’ve given me a hint. Instead I did it my way. I can’t redo it, so whatever.
>arrow users huge majority >all of the people ITT saying "how was I supposed to know you could dive?"
Holy frick, say sike. This game was made for children. You are why gaming is doomed.
>gaming is doomed because you ignored the armored top and focused on the exposed bottom
Making things harder on yourself and take longer for no reason does not make you smart.
>let me just wait around for the armor to come of enough to get it
or >dive right past its head and hit all 3 spots
just adding extra steps for the same outcome.
>let me just wait around for the armor to come of enough to get it
or >dive right past its head and hit all 3 spots
just adding extra steps for the same outcome.
>not diving through the weak points 6 times because it's fun
Anyone who ever played a Zelda should instinctively recognize what the Boss's weakspot is and what you are supposed to do.
How much more obvious can they be about it.
It would've been better if they didn't allow arrows to break it, even if that meant they aren't consistent with the games physics. If I remember correctly you couldn't use bomb arrows on the fire temple boss so it might already be inconsistent.
You couldn't use bomb arrows on the fire temple boss because the area is too hot and the bombs will blow up in your face before you can launch the arrow.
No, the fire temple boss was made of rock that in the over world are only effected by Yunobo. Bombs dont work on.
The wind boss due to it's whole theme of being an mid air boss fight had to be designed for the possibility of the player running out of ammo/bows. They can't place bows/arrows around the arena since it's in mid air.
>The wind boss due to it's whole theme of being an mid air boss fight had to be designed for the possibility of the player running out of ammo/bows. They can't place bows/arrows around the arena since it's in mid air.
it's the other way around. Even worse that you can slowmo indefinitely.
Most people here only mention diving but you could also break the ice by flying upwards.
>boss does a move where he spawns below you and flies straight up vertically, exposing all of his weak points sequentially >take them all out at the same time in 10 seconds >I CAN'T BELIEVE GAMERS THESE DAYS ARE SO STUPID AS TO DO THIS! WHY DIDN'T THEY WAIT FOR THE BOSS TO USE HIS OTHER ATTACK TO SHED HIS SHELL AND THEN DRIVE THROUGH HIM 3 TIMES?? GAMING IS DEAD
lol
lmao even
Nope, that came from your allcaps imaginary spergout. Read my post again slowly. Alternatively the shower is a good place to argue with your imagination. You probably stink anyway.
>Rito’s are associated with bow and arrows >temple gives you so many arrows you’re tripping over it >only one puzzle in the temple involves diving, and it’s about dodging lasers and not flying into the ground >constant updraft to allow for bullet time arrow shooting regardless of what attack is being done >your ally is flying with you and firing his own arrows
>THE OBVIOUS METHOD OF ATTACK HERE IS TO WAIT 5 MINUTES AND USE AN ATTACK METHOD THAT IS NOT USED ON LITERALLY ANY OTHER ENEMY IN THE GAME
The diving attack just seems like a neat Easter Egg than the method they expected everyone to do. I would be more worried by anyone whose first instinct wasn’t to fire an arrow at the obvious weak spots
>a neat Easter Egg than the method they expected everyone to do
Anon, he literally slowly parks himself directly below you like a 60 year old bus driver, and while you say Rito's are associated with arrows, the WHOLE GAME is associated with diving.
In the time it took for Colgera to launch his attack to expose his weak point to diving, I could have already dived below him and began shooting arrows at the weak spot you see in his intro cutscene.
Why are all of you homosexuals deflecting to "arrows are faster/better"? Nobody is saying it's not.
Conversation is about the "how was I supposed to know about dive" morons.
Because the only reason you would think to dive is if you didn't realize you can use arrows right away. BotW let you fight bosses at your own pace instead of waiting to expose a weak point, so I didn't expect any different with Colgera when I fought it, and thought the fight was about diving under it to shoot at the weak points. To me it seems like waiting to dive is the more hidden option since it requires waiting for the boss to act and I didn't learn about it until seeing people mention it in threads because there's no reason to try it when arrows worked on the first try.

No wonder you didn't consider diving either. Completely uncreative brain.

I saw him start firing the spikes and instantly deduced you could dive through.
Again, there was no reason to consider diving through the boss because arrows worked and allowed me to damage him before he could attack. I never saw the spike attack until later when I let him live for a bit.

But how did you know you could hit his weakpoint from under him? You start the fight above him and no weakpoints are visible until he attacks first.

Because I've played video games before? It's a completely different color than the rest of his body, and there's 3 of them. I'd find it strange if you didn't think you could hit the weak point from underneath him after watching his intro.

Why does OP care so much about how people beat a boss in a childrens game? Not to mention the game is so open with how you can handle situations that there is no one single solution to damn near anything. That's what makes it entertaining. Could probably beat the boss by throwing apples at it if you got creative enough.
There is this hero Rito statue. It's sunk into a rock and some guy from the yiga clan is asking me if I can go through it. The thing is I can't go through shit horizontally, only vertical from below. The place in question is right below Rito village.
The Yiga have a lot of incorrect information and it's hard to tell if its on purpose because they're meant to be incompetent or if a lot of their dialog is representative of earlier versions. There are journals that reference things as being close by to that particular Yiga outpost only for it to be somewhere else entirely. The most notable one is a journal talking about banging behind a southwest wall but there is nothing around that outpost that it could be referring to.
lol your not supposed to use arrows? flying bosses are the most lazy thing you could put in a game anyways. only shadow of the colossus has done it right
Arrows, then jump attacks, then drives, starting around last of the first phase to beginning of phase 2.
Took me a while to realizes that you can attack from above, and that it have the same properties of the ice surface. It's only after I had to drive through it to avoid the projectile that I realize that I don't take fall damage from doing so. The rest of the fight was me driving through it, either because it feel much cooler to do so, or that it's less bothersome than using other methods.
>huge dungeon boss >does like 1 heart of damage per hit unless you haven't upgraded any armor >dies in 6 hits from a lynel/duplex bow
I hate how TOTK has the same biggest problem that BOTW had: the difficulty falls off a cliff after the first few hours, and outside of a few points like the lynel colosseum it never recovers
>goes and gathers end game things and levels his gear >be SHOCKED and upset that doing the stuff that was designed to be done right after you land from the sky islands is super easy
You did it to yourself. Next time don't go out of your way to collect the best stuff possible before even starting one of the regions story.
one star armor and a bow is not "end game things" and it's not my fault that the developers completely neglected to design even the slightest challenge
If you're able to kill a lynel you have achieved endgame status regardless of how far you've progressed the main quest. This is possible because of the game's open-ended nonlinear nature.

Being able to beat one lynel doesn't mean you're endgame status. There are also multiple different variations of lynels that are more or less difficult than one another.
>see weak points on underside >see spikes on the top side >dive below it >fire arrows as it passes in slow motion to destroy all three in one cycle >repeat on phase two
It’s an easy attack to never see IMO
if you let the boss live more than the 10 seconds it normally takes to kill this piss easy piece of crap, it has an attack where it shoots off the spikes over its weak points, and that lets you dive through them to destroy it
the only annoying / hard boss in the game was the squid / octopus one because he would get into the slime and keep producing more of it faster than you could clear the slime with water.
And then you learn that you can make a robot that is cheap and throws water all over the place.
Homing cart with a Big tire on top side ways.
attach 2 hydrants on it. It will clear a nice path for you, it can even knock the boss out of the shark mode.
Without that or multishot bows the boss is really gay.
It would suck, but you could probably build a flying device to get near him and attack with a homing laser or cannon. You could also attach cannons to your weapons to launch bombs at him from the ground or on a floating platform.
Without arrows? Yes, thus the whole point of being able to dive bomb.
Without the Paraglider? I really doubt it. I don't think the the up draft will keep you in the air without it. Even with the wing suit. MAYBE in the rematches if you use a zonite device but you don't get that option in the temple version.
Is it possible to actually die to Colgera?
I tested and its ONLY attacks are:
>very slowly leaves through a portal, teleports far under you, very slowly moves upwards and deals small damage with its jaw as it passes. Cannot possibly hit you unless you literally go afk in midair, because any horizontal movement at all causes it to miss since it has zero tracking and like 30 seconds of windup >shoots a barrage of ice spikes off its plated back, will only use this if you stay above it for a very long period without bothering to get under it to hit its weak points, the ice spikes travel slow as molasses and are aimed in random directions and have no tracking and its hard to even get one to hit you if you intentionally try to fly into it. >summons the same copy/pasted tornados as vah medoh, queen gibdo, etc. Pretty big hitboxes and hard to avoid if you want to side step them, trivial to run away, usually they don't reach low enough to hit you if you go under them, deal mediocre damage. Basically the only attack that actually can hit you and its not aggressive
thats it
meanwhile, queen gibdo is a fricking dark souls boss, granted one you can permastun with any elemental damage, but try making a beeline to that on a new save and you'll get creamed
It's so funny how you guys haven't realized the game intends for you to do both and it's an extension of the same problem multiple solution philosophy of this game's design. You can also >"ascend" through it like webm >bomb the shell from the top to crack it open
and prob something else I haven't done. Even if it's 100x more annoying than playing it normally, yes you can beat the boss like this.
Anyone saying arrows is fricking lying or abused the shit out of the duplication glitch like the casuals they are. There is literally no way to have enough arrows to kill Colgera at that point in the game without cheesing or cheating.
kind of a let down that the only two moves boss bokoblins seem to give to their minions is "everyone group around me and hold your shields up" and "everyone spin weapons while walking towards link"
maybe it wouldn't be so bad if enemies with shields actually had a reasonable defense against 90% of the attacks / status debuffs in the game that just run right over them
12 base damage spiked boko bow
80 gem damage + fire damage over time
1.5x damage+++
1.8x bone proficiency
5x five shot burst
= 162 direct damage + 1080 aoe damage + aoe damage over time
only 3 bows have bone proficiency, spiked boko / lizal / dragonbone boko
spiked boko has the tightest grouped arc
dragonbon boko is bad and doesn't group
lizal is comically bad and shoots sideways
man you guys fricked up using arrows. the OST/music effects sync to link as he dives through colgera. Its absolute kino and you brainlets will never experience it.
Guilty admission, I am blind. I thought it was some flying centipede with glowing eye weakspots on its belly. I was so laser-focussed on this that I did not notice those things were ice-filled holes and you could target them from above, too.
i used arrows and killed each colgera phase in 1 pass. i used the hoverbike + extra fans for all the koroks and green crystals. i used recall elevators to bypass any shrine puzzle that let me do it. i hoverbiked the entire fire temple. i homing cart hydrant’d the mud boss
Zelda bosses always have a gimmick. Obviously arrows were never the intended solution. I didn't dive through ice beforehand, but once I saw the spikes fly at me, it was immediately obvious you had to dive while dodging them. They visually lead you to the solution in a way that makes it far clearer than anything leading up to it.
The fact that diving through ice didn't occur to me earlier just made it better; I was worried they would put ice sheets with nothing underneath so I slowly landed on them prior to the boss.
There isn't a single mainline Zelda game without at least one boss that can be solved by shooting arrows. If arrows were never the intended solution then the boss would have had some immunity to it and the temple wouldn't have showered you with arrows before the fight.
>shoot two arrows per weakpoint >it works >updraft refills your stamina so you can keep doing it without any penalty
I mean, sure if divebombing was the point you could've just not let the player use the same exact effective way to kill things from the previous game here. Arrows shouldn't have destroyed the ice at all.
aids
arrow users have no soul
>Noooo don't use the most optimal method of killing him.
>You must instead open up your glider and skydive a billion times on the ice on it's body.
Do divegays really?
Diving is faster and speedrunners will likely use it
when he flies up past you vertically you can shoot all 3 of his hearts in one go and go to the next phase. with the dives you have to wait for him to fire the spikes before you can hit him with a dive.
moron
Yes but diving is more kino
agree, I go back there every blood moon and farm his jaw.
You cannot be this moronic. Like how stupid do you have to be to make this comment. Stop breathing immediately.
>Noooo you’re not playing the game the right way
>You didn’t beat the game
You toddlers sound exactly like the Souls fans you think you’re above.
It reminds me that if I were born in any other time in history I would be a respected intellectual among these moronic commons.
>watching other people play vidya
You're a bigger clown than they are.
Except that the cutscene introducing him literally shows the shiny ice weak points on the bottom. You can fight him without ever knowing he reveals the top layer.
Anon you're on Ganker no the frick you wouldn't
How was anyone supposed to know you could divebomb into the ice? Actually frick that who actually THOUGHT divebombing into solid ice would work? These are the same people who think the laser shrine is some moron filter when in reality it punishes players who actually use common fricking sense.
>How was anyone supposed to know you could divebomb into the ice?
You have a brain and put two and two together? holy frick literal npcs here
>dive bomb into water, a liquid
>survive
>dive bomb into the ground, a solid
>die
>dive bomb into ice, a solid
>?????
The ice is cracked so you can infer it has poor structural integrity that will break from force
Why not try it in real life and see what happens>
Depending on how weak/strong the integrity of the ice is I'll either die from impact or die from freezing to death in ice cold water (but the ice will still crack. I know I have to state it explicitly because you 'tards can't put two and two together evidently)
its not about real life. there were multiple instances of this leading up there.
Which is why I shot at it with an arrow.
There is a few points in the game and even in the lead up to the dungeon that you break ice via divebombing
No you just need to break the ice, I did it by jumping.
Because you're lacking in critical thinking. It's okay btw.
That is besides the point.
>can't figure out how jumping on cracked ice going up to the temple translates to diving into cracked ice during the boss fight
Your critical thinking abilities are stunted.
You waited around long enough to notice the ice under the spikes or that it fired off the spikes.
When all you had to do was think "I wonder if the bottom is armored?"
Your ability to problem solve is lacking.
The other times you've jumped into or divebombed solid ice before that point, some of which you had to do to even reach the wind temple
I never had to do that though, I just hopped on the ice three times to break it. Why would I think to dive through, that shit looks like it would hurt me
You didn't though?
It was always teaching you that
Why would you not pull out the glider from a tall height
Because it puts the ice at the bottom of a long drop, encouraging you to slam onto it
Game already kill you by dropping down into The Depths in the complete dark, leading too hitting the bottom without depth perception and thereby instant death unless you bottled a fairy.
Most laser death trap dives also involve hitting a solid surface after, meaning again: Instant death without the dive set.
Also this:
Its a boss that is very easy to two cycle with fire keeze eyeballs.
>The other times you've jumped into or divebombed solid ice before that point
Dude I just jump attacked into them
There are many instances of cracked ice that breaks when you stand on it in Hebra and specifically leading up to Rito Village and I think even in the temple itself. The boss's weak points are protected by cracked ice, so my first instinct was to throw Link's weight into it to break through it. In fact, seeing the ice covering the weak points specifically made me think they were protected from standard weapons and I needed to crash through the ice.
>press jump button to stomp on a very particular ice surface
equals
>divebomb into the boss that has ice powers and ice on it but not an ice surface that is indistinguishable but the ice you can and cannot break
>cracked ice breaks under Link's weight
>boss's weak points are covered in cracked ice
>BUT HOW COULD I HAVE KNOOOOOOOOWWWWWNNNNN
>How was anyone supposed to know you could divebomb into the ice?
Because you have to do it to get to the wind temple?
>Wind temple
>Boss fight requires you to fly around
>Draft consistently pushes you up above the boss
>Boss consistently disappears and reappears below the player
>Game has a brand new mechanic where you can increase speed as you’re falling
>Game introduces this to you right off the bat
>Boss has 3 giant glowing circles of crystal/ice on its body
This is what happens when schools stop teaching children critical thinking. These people are literally incapable of developing thoughts of their own and must be explicitly told what to think and do.
Ironic that you say this and yet the game never tells you that you can break the ice with arrows. It does however teach you to dive through the ice. :^)
The post you're replying to is in defense of divebombing, moron, not using arrows.
That was his point, using arrows is the thinking man's choice.
Using arrows is the "I have a hammer so all problems are nails" mentality, showing a complete inability to learn or think about anything beyond brute forcing a single solution to everything.
Tell that to him, not me.
>showing a complete inability to learn or think about anything beyond brute forcing a single solution to everything
so the correct way
You're acting like using arrows was a somehow inferior or unintended way to defeat the boss.
Im sorry you’re moronic.
>moronic
>tried something potentially off book
>it worked
Nobody in this thread is serious right
>Trying to approach problems from a standpoint that isn’t straight unga bunga is moronic
He's right though. Even if there are ice blocks you break through in the world, surely there will be a difference between cold water and a shield created by a boss.
This is true too. You'd clearly need something heavy to break that ice, an arrow just doesn't seem enough. Bad game design or player diversity?
>NOOOO YOU CLEARLY CANT DO THAT
Clearly I can since I did it in the fricking temple right before the boss. You're just stupid.
It was the first thing I tried. I tried it because I thought it looked cool. It worked. Never expected this to become a 'thing'
The better question is: why would anyone even consider it? Using arrows, you can end the boss in 30 seconds, skipping its second phase as well.
Looks cool. Is fun. That's pretty much all I needed
I only just now learned that you could divebomb through it. I'm in the middle of my second playthrough.
your brain on Common Core
How do you dive bomb into it from below? Does it turn around after a while? It just does so fast it never even managed to attack me before.
Sounds like you just got outsmarted and are now salty seeing someone play more creatively than you.
This is why 90% of Ganker seethes over this game. It is the ultimate litmus test of creativity. They ran around on foot shooting bomb arrows all game and get mad when people talk about all the awesome shit the game let's you do that they didn't even think to try. Because they suck at vidya.
but I thought the boss was awesome even when I was just shooting regular arrows
>beating the boss in the most efficient manner possible makes you moronic
The absolute state of Ganker
Fun > Efficiency
>you did it better than me so you had less fun!
Brainlet logic
>doing something an impractical way is fun
>How was anyone supposed to know you could divebomb into the ice?
legit the first thing i did. kneel
>dungeon boosts you super high into the air
>boss spawns below you and shoots rocks at you
>rocks reveal soft glassy inside
>[urge to divebomb intensifies]
idk how people couldn't resist wanting to dive thru the hoops
By not waiting for it to reveal its weak spot.
>The top is armored
>the bottom is not
it literally shows its weakspot during the intro cinematic tho........
For me, I dove instantly so I could use the camera for a picture so I was just under him the whole time
This sums up my experience. He wad dead by arrows before I even learned he revealed the top weakpoint.
Because the game also has bullet time while you're in midair with the bow.
The exposed back literally looks exactly like the ice patches you've NEEDED to break in order to progress on the path up to the temple (lol barely even a temple)
It's not the game's fault you refused to pay attention to something literally spelled out to you
I used arrows for 2 of the 6 hits because it felt good to hit him with the divebomb then get his under belly as he was going up
My literally though process
>first temple
>damn this guy looks cool
>gald they're doing unique bosses again instead of cumblight ganon
>wtf we're flying the whole time
>he's shooting spikes at me
>there's ice on his back ICE ON HIS BACK
>*DIVEBOMBS THROUGH*
>OH YEAH KINO'S BACK FRICK YEAH
>this is a good boss fight
I don't recall any indicators that there was something under there.
>after previous shrines showcased lasers as damaging obstacles
Those are blue.
I've beat the main story and had no idea you could dive into ice.
How the frick do you morons not take a hint?
Divebombers are just shit at aiming even with slo mo.
the "answer" is to shoot it with arrows because the boss dies that way
How bad are you at bullet time that you can't hit an effectively stationary target with unlimited time to aim?
>Hmm shooting arrows at him feels kind of clunky and shitty
I'm more surprised to see so many people putting "arrows" like maybe bomb arrows but who has that many by the time this boss appears for most people?
dive bombing seemed like the only way
It only takes 12 arrows at most and even less if you have a duplex bow
I did a lot of exploring before then. Pretty sure i had over 100 arrows and like 30 bombs.
The wind temple and the lead up to it gives you a frickton of arrows. Did you people actually play the game?
https://twitter.com/kowkarot5/status/1670233427776360450?s=20
Congrats, you are as moronic as DSP.
That DSP comparison has literally nothing to do with what anon is talking about. You're moronic.
>game presents an obstacle before you and gives you tools to solve it
>WHY WON'T IT EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT TO DO?
>game presents a boss to fight you after a dungeon that demonstrates tools and mechanics used to break ice
>WHY DIDN'T THE GAME TELL ME I COULD DO THAT?
Actually it does. you're just as moronic and feel extremely upset at realizing that you're a waste of life and should have a nice day. You're dumber than DSP because you're in denial about it.
Wrong again moron.
>You're dumber than DSP because you're in denial about it. And you feel extremely upset at realizing that you're a waste of life and should have a nice day.
Imagine being this much of a edgelord brainlet over a Zelda game.
How would you think you would feel if you didn't eat breakfast today?
You actually fell for that pseud /misc/ test you fricking low IQ brainlet
How do you think you would you feel if you didn't eat breakfast this morning?
>such a critical thinker he mindlessly repeats psued IQ questions like a mantra that you read on /misc/
Literal NPC behavior
>can jump onto ice to break it
>diving into it destroys it faster
>boss has you floating around a lot, easily lets you get out of the way via Tulin, and removes a bunch of rock spikes to reveal an obvious pink weak spot
It's not that hard guys.
Why is this even an argument? Both methods work because both methods were intended by the developers. If they didn't want you shooting it with arrows that would have been removed.
The laser shrine only filters people who don't read the shrine titles. It was test of faith or something for that one.
Courage to fall or something like that. I don't know how that name implies touching a laser isn't going to hurt you.
if you touch the lasers that are first presented to you, you just fall into a void and take damage. at that point i just pulled out a rocket shield and bypassed the whole thing. the second set of lasers actually drop you down to a lower level though so i did that one properly
this thread is my first reveal that you can divebomb ANY ice. I can't think of any reason I'd ever go 'hmm maybe this one case of plummeting into a solid surface won't fricking kill me'. I just jump smashed the environment ice and arrow'd the boss ice. hell I'm reading this thread right now and I still don't see any reason I'd have divebomb smashed anything anyways when bullet time seems faster and more reliable considering how fricking terrible aerial movement is anyways
kek one time i fricked up and just ended up crashing through the crystal hole from above so i just kept doing that over and over until he died
Mario method. Didn't even know you could beat it with arrows. Seems kind of frustrating to try.
I chucked boomerangs
>tfw never divebombed any of the ice
I cracked them by jumping.
I did the same, but when faced with an aerial boss fight I instinctually knew I could divebomb safely.
I collected so many arrows in the temple it drilled into my mind that I had to use them.
And this has literally nothing to do with the fact that the Rito people are primarily archers..
No, not really
The arrows are there for all the flying enemies and the icicles you need to break to reach some chests
I did the same, but then I extended that logic to diving when I was flying through the air during the boss fight since standing and jumping weren't options any more.
Same. I also didn't realize the boss weakspots were supposed to be the same as those patches of ice anyway.
>ice breaks through jumping
>"hmm maybe if i dive at high speeds through it that will break it too"
moron
>take fall damage from divebombing into solid ground
>”hmm maybe if I dive at high speed into THIS solid ground it will go differently”
>cracked translucent ice that breaks when you stand on it
>solid ground
Actually, I tried falling onto it without divng once and did in fact take fall damage (and only partially broke the ice), so yes, the game conditioned me to believe diving would also cause damage.
Same. I figured you'd just take fall damage if you dropped on them from too high and would need to do it multiple times. On the boss I figured bomb arrows were the answer since I couldn't jump on them.
same, anyone who says their first instinct was to divebomb the ice is a liar and probably followed a guide
or they tried it as a joke and it actually worked.
or they have functioning brains
>I’m not stupid everyone else are liars!
I'd jump atk, thinking there was no way links 4ft manlet ass could break ice.
Well you don't have to dive bomb the boss. You can literally just land and it still breaks.
Boss appeared. I shot it with an arrow. The arrow worked. I stopped looking for other solutions.
>It was a natural progression.
not really
>It's cool that you can crash through the boss but that definitely is not how you're expected to fight it.
Except Tulin has special dialogoue for when you do.
>You had to break through multiple sheets of ice with Link's body weight to get to the temple just minutes prior.
What are you talking about Anon
You just had to jump on those ships to bounce higher and glide to other ships
>What are you talking about Anon
There are multiple instances of pic related going up to the Wind Temple. There's even at least 1 airship underneath a sheet of ice that you can dive through and bounce on in one swift motion.
Where the frick is this
In a cave that you have to go to before traveling to the Wind Temple.
Maybe my memory is shit but I do NOT remember any caves having a patches of ice inside
Your memory is definitely shit because I grabbed that particular screenshot from a walkthrough for the journey to the Wind Temple.
I just threw bombs at those.
Slo mo fire fruit. Got all 3 spots in one go, then phase swap, then all 3 spots in one go again.
Easily.
I played BotW so arrows. You're either fricking moronic or maybe played BotW on release and never again if you divebombed. Both temple bosses were built around air arrows
Doesnt make sense. All botw bosses are stunned with a headshot
Like I said? Good luck doing anything to Vah Medoh without air arrows. Using morons in this thread logic, they'd probably divebomb into Medoh
>it takes a big intellect to figure out this Zelda puzzle
Your first non-nintendo game is going to blow your mind
Divebombing wasn’t a mechanic in BOTW and there’s a different between divebombing thin sheets of cracked ice versus divebombing solid concrete bricks.
I had the wingsuit, so I skydive through it.
>"it's the game's fault i'm moronic!"
Classic Ganker
Go dive head first into a frozen lake and tell me who the moron is. Not my fault I thought I could apply common sense to a fricking video game but then I have to remember most of you can't even envision 3D objects in your mind. Black person.
>Literally everything in Zelda is exactly like real life!
the game show in the tutorial it has fall damage except when you land in a body of water.
Do people who divebomb not play the last game? I was reminded of the ice dragon where you had to shoot the weak points.
There is one ice patch with solid ground under it in the sky, so if that was your first interaction with ice you probbaly avoided divebombing altogether after
>just dive into a solid object at full speed in a game where fall damge exists
oh I guess Im the stupid one
You realize thin sheets of ice can break given enough impact correct? What do they teach in American physics class?
dive into a sheet of ice at mach 5 right now
>hurr why doesn't the video game reflect real life exactly
This is the same logic as saying Link should have broken limbs after falling from any not small height
Dumb amerimutt
>What is fall damage?
>if you tried something and the thing worked, you're moronic
am i summing this thread up correctly
Yes. In any other situation in the entire game divebombing into a solid object will kill you. I can understand people trying it if they have a fairy on reserve, but otherwise that's just suicidal.
I actually got down as clos as possible then opened my paraglider then used attack to slash through the ice
Judging from the posters in this thread:
Arrows = Switch players
Divebombing = PC/Yuzu players
I divebombed and only played on Switch.
>Divebombing = PC/Yuzu players
Why? I play with a DS4 and there's 0 difference.
Divebombers had arrows as a backup plan.
Did arrow users have a plan B?
Don't think so, haven't seen even one mention it.
Arrow players don't need a plan B.
why would I need a plan B? I may be a knuckle scraping moron but I'm not a brain dead buffoon that never stockpiled in arrows
The first thing I tried (arrows) worked. Why would I need a plan B?
There's no 'plan B' to zelda bosses, you either do the right thing or die. And divebombing from a high place to the ground is death.
>divebombing from a high place to the ground is death
This boss fight does have a constant updraft of air beneath it, meaning you can cancel the divebomb at any time and go back to floating upwards with the paraglider. So it's not really a risk in that respect.
I ran out of arrows mid fight so I divebombed it and it worked.
Did you enter the fight with 1 arrow?
Based adaptability chad over here is above all of us. The arguement is now over.
What kind of homosexual has a backup plan for a Zelda enemy.
Boss appears
>Step 1: kill it
When I fought gohma I didn't plan a 9 stage offensiv. I just climbed it's leg, jumped on it's head and poked it's eye with my pointy stick.
>I just climbed it's leg
This is a joke, right?
I'm pretty sure it's intentional. Afterall it's leg gets stuck for a second after its attack. I think it even lifts the leg with you on it so you can jump on its head.
The leg gets stuck so you can destroy it with Yunobo. When the leg isn't stuck it will avoid Yunobo.
Also you can use Ascend on Gohma's main body and pop out right on top of its eyeball which I realized during a rematch fight.
heh, I used that for Talus but now that I think about it that makes sense.
Well yea but do you really need it. It's almost impossible for yunobo to miss. Also they did make the legs climb able, so it was probably something they anticipated.
Imagine a master quest version that keeps adapting to you.
>Shoot the eye and it grows armour in front
>Ascend and it grows spikes underneath
>Break a leg and it gets reinforced with iron
>Climb a leg and it gets covered in ice
>Melt the ice and the next time it will summon rain to protect from fire
It would be a pain to program but it would be an amazing fight considering how many ways you can fight that boss.
huh?
>It's almost impossible for yunobo to miss.
But that seems like something to keep in mind for when/if they add Master Quest.
>he climbed its leg instead of ascending through its head
ngmi
>Divebombers had arrows as a backup plan.
>Did arrow users have a plan B?
Thats logically backwards, arrows should be plan A and divebombs plan B
>arrows are a limited resource
>divebombs are not
>therefore arrows are the backup plan because???
What, you afraid of running out of dive bombs?
>Did arrow users have a plan B?
More arrows.
I thought he would turn his belly up at some point to jump on. I didn't wait for him to fire spikes so I just went below him and blew them up.
he starts so far under you, so i dove through the first circle, and then after he teleports away and charges your vertically from below, i shot the other passing circles with bomb arrows. i think its just like 2 cycles to win.
I used
fire arrows because I thought the fire was necessary to deal damage
I just used bomb arrows
At least you used critical thinking. You weren't wrong either, it's more effective to use fire arrows than normal ones. Just goes to show that the boss is well designed when there are several ways to beat it, some faster than others.
It's well designed, as a spectacle. As a boss fight, it's one of the worse in the series.
>Wait for enough of the top to be exposed then shoot it and/or dive bomb while avoiding attacks, go back up and aim for the exposed ice over the weak point. Do this one more time.
or
>dive just below it and break all its weak points open in one go, then when it goes vertical break all the weak points. You only need to do this twice.
In fact I think it's even weak on spectacle, the moment you understand it does not really attack or try to avoid you and you don't even need to wait for an opening, it becomes such a fast "fight" that there is no time for spectacle.
To be honest Anon, no Zelda boss has ever been difficult. In fact the majority of bosses prior to BotW were:
>Use dungeon item to expose weak point
>Slash weak point with sword
>Repeat
I did this and then accidentally didn't attach a fire fruit to one and realized regular arrows work too
your brain on realism
>enter boss fight
>it has no way to give you arrows
>you can't leave or run away
>remember that TotK always gives you a way to restock on necessary items if you're locked in a fight so you can never soft-lock the game
>realize that arrows can't be the solution because you could run out
>learn to divebomb
EZPZ
I entered the temple with no arrows and by the time I got to the boss, I had like 50.
But DURING the boss fight there's nothing to restock your arrows, so obviously they're not required or else running out could soft-lock you.
I had tons of arrows and fused them with gibdo bones which one shot them
soulless
It's not about not taking risks, it's just that the arrows are the first thing I tried, and they worked, and that's all I needed.
>sitting in front of a tv with a piece of plastic in your hand is the sign of a risk taker
chortle
gafaw
I did a hybrid, I initially dove and then realized his underside was uncovered while I was in the second phase so I tried shooting
when the boss started launching his spikes at me I knew what I had to do
>52% of anons are brainless idiots who missed out on some kino by abusing arrow slow down mechanics.
>standing still far back shooting timestopped arrows for the 1000th time like a pussy
>blasting 25362574 mph through the middle of the fricking boss like a madlad
Hmm which is more kino again?
Read my post you moron. im on your fricking side.
Read his post again but slowly moron
he can't, he just divebombed past the post
>you can kill it by flying into it's weak points
Well, I guess that explains why it's so fricking easy. I used a bow thinking it's the only way to hit it, because the first time I did it I did not wait for the ice spikes to start being fired. I assumed it was meant to be shot from below.
>all those morons who didn't divcebomb
I thoght I was a complete shitter at the game but damn... even I figured that one out.
Also is wayy more Kino that way
Easy
I used fire arrows. In my mind tool+elemental damage made sense. I never considered crashing through it because I thought it would do freezing damage to me. I did float around and dive a lot for a positioning, and got to a point where I could consistently dive through its pincers and set up 3 shots. It's my favorite of the temple bosses for the maneuverability involved.
I thought divebombing would not break through so I spearbombed instead.
Now that you can do it on wooden ones as well, no boxes were safe from my wrath.
shut the frick up
>explore the entire world map before ever touching a temple
>have a 2-star upgraded set of skydiving gear
>dive onto colgera with no fear of fall damage
Started out using arrows, as soon as I saw the spikes he shot out was from his covering I immediately felt compelled to do it the right way.
Colgera might be extremely easy but he's still a fun as hell boss for the spectacle.
>poorly designed easily cheesable boss
>NOOOO YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO WASTE TIME WAITING FOR IT TO TELL YOU WHEN TO ATTACK!!!!1!
no
>Optimize the fun out of a game
>WTF WHY ISN'T THIS FUN???
That's my reaction to every hoverbike cuck who uses it, says it's no fun, and then keeps using it while blaming the game for "allowing them" to build a hoverbike as if it's not their own personal problem.
completing the depths is only bearable with hoverbike
You can carry stuff with the bike, just have to glue it to the front. Problem with using wood is it can get burned off.
What? Who the frick says that? I love the hover bike. It's my favorite way to travel and it's the only reason I bothered getting every shrine.
The whole argument boils down to, "The game shouldn't let me choose to ruin my own fun so it's a bad game because it didn't force me to have fun."
>building is a main mechanic in the game
>the depths constantly give you shit at regular Zonai platforms to build stuff
>build a car for a while to traverse, but many areas have a lot of verticality
>build a hoverbike-type thing
>easily traverse the depths and realize there's just vast stretches of nothing with one biome (unless you're near the Goron area)
>complain about the depths being an empty, boring, and pointless addition to the game and a waste of a map the size of surface Hyrule
>some dumb gay on Ganker tells me that I'm optimizing the fun out of the game
Shut up, moron. The fun in making contraptions is being pushed to innovate for the purposes of solving problems. Innovating for the purpose of creating more problems is dumb as hell.
The people I was talking about were doing things like hoverbiking to the end of a labyrinth and then complaining that the game didn't actively force them to engage with the labyrinth and that type of shit.
The depths would be more fun if there was only one chasm and you had to explore from there. No being able to just ignore massive swaths of the map by just going back to the surface and jumping in to another hole.
I also think there should be a Stable for Stalhorses down there,
And actual enemy variety, and Subrosian settlements.
I do wish they added more things from LttP/ALBW dark world/lorule. Monsters exclusive to the depths not the frox and froxlets.
>Make horrible engineering failures
>Spurs my creativity to make it even worse
I'm a fricking psychopath!
>be me
>be confused
>tulin: link we need to find a way to damage it try diving!
>be 2000 iq divebomber
divebomb chads we definitely won!! INTENDED SMART KID GAME WAY!!
"how were you supposed to know?!" gays btfo.
Never heard that dialogue. He probably only says that as a hint if you don't shoot the weak spots or do anything like a moron for a long enough time.
so divegays are also dubgays?
>playing a game in a language you don't understand when there are non-subtitled voice lines
Yes. Voice acting is cancer and shitty English VO kills immersion
The Japanese VO could also be shitty and you would never know the difference because you're not fricking Japanese
What is anti-fun about it? Nothing is stopping you from doing it the intended way.
Why does that wooden box use batteries?
Probably has a stabilizer to keep it on zeldras nose
I like it, by any means necessary.
Probably the same reason arrows work on Colgera, the ice breaks under force rather than under more specific circumstances so arrows apply enough force to damage it.
there are people who are literally too dumb to beat some shrines the intended way so they let people cheese it so those people don't feel like idiots
Lost my first try to the final phase with like one hit remaining. GUTTED. Figured out the goo deflect on the next try and made him pay.
There were hooks?!
There were hooks!
>the one with the rails where you need to build a platform that will transition smoothly to a new rail
People had difficulty with this? It's the most utterly basic of engineering problems.
My first instinct, going into that one blind, was to cheese it super hard, webm related.
The shrine is built around not having access to rockets, but they don't limit your ability to prep.
>doesn't know what cheese means
Recall is so god damn broken
>basically makes battery life a non issue for flying machines.
>Battery bout to run out? Hit your machine with recall and while you go backwards in the air your battery refills, take control and let Recall go and you are back to full battery very high in the air.
>oh no, this thing I want/need fell off the sky island, lets say like a single Luminous stone
>run to edge and look down, I can see the trail and use it to pinpoint where that single stone is, recall it to where I am.
>Oh I need to build a think to get up
>or I can Ultrahand+Recall Elevator
>>oh no, this thing I want/need fell off the sky island, lets say like a single Luminous stone
>>run to edge and look down, I can see the trail and use it to pinpoint where that single stone is, recall it to where I am.
They really should have made that edge a bit higher LOL
could still cheese it with the same method.
>lift plate
>stand on plate with ball
>recall plate
>lift ball
>recall ball
>climb up the ladder and pull up ball
Should have put a small door leading to that area then, only way to prevent the ball from going through, lel
You can rewind the falling icicles
That seems even worse that riding the lightning updraft. At least that way you can choose between different updrafts. With recall you're a sitting duck. Maybe I just had the worst RNG imaginable but when I fought it I wouldn't even had gotten off the ground before the next one hit me.
the icicles follow a pattern, once you notice it's pretty easy to avoid
combine that with immunity to lightning from the lightning helm makes the "intended" solution pretty do-able
You normally get hurt when touching enemies. There's no way I would ever have thought to dive bomb head first into a boss
I didn't even know you could use arrows. It sets up the divebombing so well
I didn't even know it shot the spikes off its back, I dived below it immediately and took out the first phase with a triple shot bow in a few seconds.
I had no clue that you could divebomb through those things, why would you ever bother doing that?
It was a fun Shadow of the Colossus-esque fight.
this boss was so ass easy, I accidentally beat it just by letting the wind carry me around like a fricking ragdoll. easily the worst one in the game, but it looks pretty cool, ig. looks better than that shitty octorock guy.
>morons complaining about multiple solutions in Multiple Solutions: The Video Game
You Black folk need to argue about more important shit. Like optimal Hudson sign support structures.
Hover stone. Anything more is over complicating it.
Admit it: you didn't know you could b***h slap the gloom right back at Ganondorf.
My only guess would be they wanted to fit in the classic "reflect his attacks" mechanic but did not want to make it the ONLY way to deal with him.
I mean, it glows with power and has the "BWOOM" attack effect when you strike Gloom Hands and Phantom Ganon, same as it had against Malice in BotW.
>same as it had against Malice in BotW
There's the rub, though, it's the SAME as in BotW, not different or better, and in BotW you never deflect attacks with the Master Sword either because you always use the shield parry for that even against Calamity Ganon.
That's fair. I mentioned I didn't think about reflecting them myself, so it's not like I have a good argument against you. It's neat that it's in though, even if it could have been conveyed a bit better.
For me it was more that there was one gloom pattern that i couldnt dodge that prompted me to try and deflect. The one with the homing orbs.
WHAT THE FRICK
THATS KINO HOLY SHIT
I only thougt to try it because the attack right before that shattered my Hylian Shield and I was desperate.
I just bomb jumped headshot him or ran outta there, had no idea you could do that also didnt know the fricking Master Sword didnt break during this fight because I didnt use it till he was almost dead
Master Sword didn't lose durability against Malice-infected enemies in BOTW either
I knew, but only because I heard it from someone else. Didn't know what it looked like in action though.
I did not.
It's kino
>light dragon horn
You didn't beat the game.
Why? I'd get if you said silver lynel horn but this horn doesn't even help against the gloom damage.
It worked but holy frick he hits like a truck, every hit did all of my hearts except 1/4th.
i thought going into the air was so you could do the slo-mo bow and arrow thing. i don't see why anyone would think about divebombing the boss. i assumed that hitting the boss would do damage to ME not them
I went straight to ganon and had to fight him without the paraglider. Most fun I ever had.
>Huh? He never attacked me on the ground, and I had to refight him dozens of times.
Oh, so you're larping. Good to know.
>He never attacked me on the ground
Dude, he spams the frick out of the AOE move especially in the second phase.
That's fine then, going straight down right after the tutorial just isn't reasonable since you do need some starting resources to deal with all the enemies
Not that guy but I never saw that attack happen
What is the point of lying like this?
>need to jump into a chasm with no water to land safely, only way to survive is a fairy or trying to grab a wall right before dying
>need to grab enough weapons for the old king's army
>need to grab enough weapons for the boss rush
>need enough arrows to one-cycle Colgera
>need weapons for Ganon
Not even speedrunners go straight to Ganon without some preparation, bruteforcing your way past all that would take lots of hours banging your head against a wall until you barely pull it off
skill issue. Check YouTube for proofs. Speedrunners ran straight to ganon and won both games.
I'm about to blow your fricking mind
>find depth hole
>take out to gliders
>glue them so the noses touch
>lower into hole, bring back, stand on it, recall, cancel recall over hole
This is how I got into the depths first time and it was kino. They glow in the chasm's darkness. It's a slow descent down.
You didn't beat the game
Correct, I still have another temple to go. Oh and I still haven't done most of the geoglyphs, spent too much time fricking around.
they didn't beat the game but they won the war
I dive bombed him a little bit but I arrowed the last part when he flew past me cuz frick him.
I kind of wish instead of it being wait for him to do his attack and hit him 6 times it was a combination of using dive bomb attacks when he leaves himself open and arrowing his weak spots when he leaves them open, I think that would have been more interesting overall.
Yeah the correct order is:
1) divebomb
2) arrows when he attacks vertically from the portal under you
3) divebomb again
4) rinse and repeat for phase 2
I just feel bad for the arrowlets who probably missed out on the full boss track.
jokes on you I heard the full track because I'm terrible at this game
Of course you divebomb this guy, obvious.
Know what doesn't make sense? The boss rush leading up to Ganon with the Gibdo Queen. You can't kill the spawners without Riju's specific lightning blast
You don't need to kill the spawners. I never did it.
wut? you mean the big mushroom things? bomb arrows, dude
You don't have to destroy them, I completely ignored them during the rematch in the depths
I thought he was invulnerable from above and that the strategy was to glide below him and shoot arrows
So in the end, I went with
>Dive attack the first part
>Fly back up
>Dodge the upswing
>Time the arrow slo-mo to the moment the undamaged belly lines up with me and shoot it out
>Fly again for a second to get the third hole lined up
>Repeat the arrow shot
I think it's the most badass way to deal with it honestly. Still counts as a one cycle too.
Why, Diving through incoming icicles, grazing them slightly, feeling like I'm Top Gun's Maverick and diving straight through his sensitive vegana like one big dramatic motherfricker, of course.
shooting arrows is just the intuitive thing to do, and thats what i did, and it worked
>divebomb keks
>can only destroy a single crystal per pass
>bowchads
>ends the entire fight in a single pass on bullet time
I think I will stick to bows thanks.
The first time I fought him I actually used a downward thrust with a sword to break the ice, then later realized it was unnecessary.
>You had to do it this way!!!
See? Just like Fromsoft fans. Make up gays.
First time I divebombed while his kino theme blasted. Depths encounters I just keesed arrow him in less than a minute.
Lionel bow, so he was a joke
I live that this is the new easy bait for TotK threads.
>post yfw rito village theme kicks in during phase 2
I'm too musically illiterate and tone deaf to recognize that kind of thing.
>arrow users huge majority
>all of the people ITT saying "how was I supposed to know you could dive?"
Holy frick, say sike. This game was made for children. You are why gaming is doomed.
>gaming is doomed because you ignored the armored top and focused on the exposed bottom
Making things harder on yourself and take longer for no reason does not make you smart.
>not diving through the first one and arrowing the next two on the way through
ngmi
>let me just wait around for the armor to come of enough to get it
or
>dive right past its head and hit all 3 spots
just adding extra steps for the same outcome.
>not diving through the weak points 6 times because it's fun
>for no reason
Having more fun is a reason.
Could you use the Zonai bombs?
bomb arrows don't work in rematches in the depths, either
Most people here only mention diving but you could also break the ice by flying upwards.
>boss does a move where he spawns below you and flies straight up vertically, exposing all of his weak points sequentially
>take them all out at the same time in 10 seconds
>I CAN'T BELIEVE GAMERS THESE DAYS ARE SO STUPID AS TO DO THIS! WHY DIDN'T THEY WAIT FOR THE BOSS TO USE HIS OTHER ATTACK TO SHED HIS SHELL AND THEN DRIVE THROUGH HIM 3 TIMES?? GAMING IS DEAD
lol
lmao even
>reading comprehension
Yes, I comprehended and insulted your bewildement at arrow users being the majority when it's easier, faster, and more intuitive.
Nope, that came from your allcaps imaginary spergout. Read my post again slowly. Alternatively the shower is a good place to argue with your imagination. You probably stink anyway.
>arrow users huge majority
>You are why gaming is doomed.
I repeat:
lol
lmao
Now connect it with the 2nd line. You can do it, I believe in you. You're getting so close.
>Rito’s are associated with bow and arrows
>temple gives you so many arrows you’re tripping over it
>only one puzzle in the temple involves diving, and it’s about dodging lasers and not flying into the ground
>constant updraft to allow for bullet time arrow shooting regardless of what attack is being done
>your ally is flying with you and firing his own arrows
?t=54
In the time it took for Colgera to launch his attack to expose his weak point to diving, I could have already dived below him and began shooting arrows at the weak spot you see in his intro cutscene.
Why are all of you homosexuals deflecting to "arrows are faster/better"? Nobody is saying it's not.
Conversation is about the "how was I supposed to know about dive" morons.
We're discussing the "you weren't supposed to know about the arrows" morons. dumb frogposter
>Because the only reason you would think to dive is if you didn't realize you can use arrows right away.
>only reason
Really? That's the ONLY SINGULAR REASON in all of infinity you can come up with?
No wonder you didn't consider diving either. Completely uncreative brain.
Again, there was no reason to consider diving through the boss because arrows worked and allowed me to damage him before he could attack. I never saw the spike attack until later when I let him live for a bit.
But how did you know you could hit his weakpoint from under him? You start the fight above him and no weakpoints are visible until he attacks first.
>how did you know you could hit his weakpoint from under him
Because I've played video games before? It's a completely different color than the rest of his body, and there's 3 of them. I'd find it strange if you didn't think you could hit the weak point from underneath him after watching his intro.
I just want you to know that you are not crazy anon and I had the exact same thought process as you.
>allowed me to damage him before he could attack. I never saw the spike attack
You can't say "Again," and follow up with an important detail you left out of the first post.
I saw him start firing the spikes and instantly deduced you could dive through.
I just spamed arrows. Is there another way to beat it or something?
Why does OP care so much about how people beat a boss in a childrens game? Not to mention the game is so open with how you can handle situations that there is no one single solution to damn near anything. That's what makes it entertaining. Could probably beat the boss by throwing apples at it if you got creative enough.
Why dont you reply to OP and ask them directly you cuck?
They don't deserve the (You) :^)
There is this hero Rito statue. It's sunk into a rock and some guy from the yiga clan is asking me if I can go through it. The thing is I can't go through shit horizontally, only vertical from below. The place in question is right below Rito village.
What gives?
Go find the chasm in Rito Village.
Really? Because the "go through it" was in red. Curious.
You know what that was? That was false advertising.
lol your not supposed to use arrows? flying bosses are the most lazy thing you could put in a game anyways. only shadow of the colossus has done it right
Arrows, then jump attacks, then drives, starting around last of the first phase to beginning of phase 2.
Took me a while to realizes that you can attack from above, and that it have the same properties of the ice surface. It's only after I had to drive through it to avoid the projectile that I realize that I don't take fall damage from doing so. The rest of the fight was me driving through it, either because it feel much cooler to do so, or that it's less bothersome than using other methods.
>huge dungeon boss
>does like 1 heart of damage per hit unless you haven't upgraded any armor
>dies in 6 hits from a lynel/duplex bow
I hate how TOTK has the same biggest problem that BOTW had: the difficulty falls off a cliff after the first few hours, and outside of a few points like the lynel colosseum it never recovers
You could just not upgrade your armor. I did a 150 hour playthrough without it.
Never liked challenge runs in games, feels like I'm just acting dumb on purpose.
Then why are you complaining about the enemies not doing enough damage? You literally control how much damage they do.
>goes and gathers end game things and levels his gear
>be SHOCKED and upset that doing the stuff that was designed to be done right after you land from the sky islands is super easy
You did it to yourself. Next time don't go out of your way to collect the best stuff possible before even starting one of the regions story.
one star armor and a bow is not "end game things" and it's not my fault that the developers completely neglected to design even the slightest challenge
>lynel bow
>not endgame things
are you stupid?
i fought a lynel before i did any of the four dungeons, you find one in hyrule plains, stop being disengenious
If you're able to kill a lynel you have achieved endgame status regardless of how far you've progressed the main quest. This is possible because of the game's open-ended nonlinear nature.
Lynels aren't endgame enemies.
They are literally optional side bosses. They're the strongest enemies in BotW and they're the second-strongest enemies in TotK only because Gleeoks were introduced.
Being able to beat one lynel doesn't mean you're endgame status. There are also multiple different variations of lynels that are more or less difficult than one another.
I used a fire fruit to break the ice armor. I didn’t know until the rematch in the depths that they weren’t even needed.
I killed it so quickly I didn’t even know it could shed it’s skin.
Wut?
>see weak points on underside
>see spikes on the top side
>dive below it
>fire arrows as it passes in slow motion to destroy all three in one cycle
>repeat on phase two
It’s an easy attack to never see IMO
if you let the boss live more than the 10 seconds it normally takes to kill this piss easy piece of crap, it has an attack where it shoots off the spikes over its weak points, and that lets you dive through them to destroy it
You didn't beat the game.
guardians >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> constructs
>62% of Ganker is moronic
lmao
I actually did both. I used arrows first but wanted to find out if driving through would work.
>boss and temple fricking moronic
i can't comprehend this moronation, how can i achive it? smashing my head in to the wall several times?
the only annoying / hard boss in the game was the squid / octopus one because he would get into the slime and keep producing more of it faster than you could clear the slime with water.
I feel like I'm going crazy. Divebomb?
plunging melee attack
ARROWS!!!!!! You divebomb morons had to oggle at the boss for a full minute to get to the phase where it shoots from below you.
If I see a big GLOWING PURPLE PULSING target, I'm naturally going to shoot at it
How are you supposed to divebomb it? It has spikes blocking the top so I just waited until it came up at me out of the portal and shot the underside
Is it possible to defeat Colgera without the paraglider or arrows?
It would suck, but you could probably build a flying device to get near him and attack with a homing laser or cannon. You could also attach cannons to your weapons to launch bombs at him from the ground or on a floating platform.
truly the way nintendo meant for every flying boss in the game to be fought
this is literally the final boss of trauma center
If you are not cutting down magical beings with the power of technology and SCIENCE, you are doing it wrong.
Cannot possibly hit you unless you literally go afk in midair, because any horizontal movement at all causes it to miss since it has zero tracking and like 30 seconds of windup
>shoots a barrage of ice spikes off its plated back, will only use this if you stay above it for a very long period without bothering to get under it to hit its weak points, the ice spikes travel slow as molasses and are aimed in random directions and have no tracking and its hard to even get one to hit you if you intentionally try to fly into it.
>summons the same copy/pasted tornados as vah medoh, queen gibdo, etc.
I did both. Divebombing when I could because it was more fun, but used arrows when it flew over me.
It's so funny how you guys haven't realized the game intends for you to do both and it's an extension of the same problem multiple solution philosophy of this game's design. You can also
>"ascend" through it like webm
>bomb the shell from the top to crack it open
and prob something else I haven't done.
Black person it takes 12 arrows to kill him
The dungeon gives you over a hundred arrows if you didn't rush through it
I had a royal guard bow "at that point in the game"
It was my third temple. I had hundreds of arrows
jesus imagine anyone thinking this game has difficulty at all
Yes, we know gems attached to arrows are OP.
pretty cool that the bokoblins form a little phalanx around their boss tbh
kind of a let down that the only two moves boss bokoblins seem to give to their minions is "everyone group around me and hold your shields up" and "everyone spin weapons while walking towards link"
maybe it wouldn't be so bad if enemies with shields actually had a reasonable defense against 90% of the attacks / status debuffs in the game that just run right over them
How does any bow have enough damage to do this?
12 base damage spiked boko bow
80 gem damage + fire damage over time
1.5x damage+++
1.8x bone proficiency
5x five shot burst
= 162 direct damage + 1080 aoe damage + aoe damage over time
>dragonbone bokoblin bow
>5x shot burst
???
also
spiked boko bow not dragonbone boko bow
only 3 bows have bone proficiency, spiked boko / lizal / dragonbone boko
spiked boko has the tightest grouped arc
dragonbon boko is bad and doesn't group
lizal is comically bad and shoots sideways
man you guys fricked up using arrows. the OST/music effects sync to link as he dives through colgera. Its absolute kino and you brainlets will never experience it.
game’s fault for letting you destroy the boss easily with like 12 arrows
colgera should have had a phase where he summons a wind aura that repels arrows, then you’d be forced to divebomb his ice to break the aura
>you brainlets will never experience what it's like to beat the boss in a sub optimal manner
Guilty admission, I am blind. I thought it was some flying centipede with glowing eye weakspots on its belly. I was so laser-focussed on this that I did not notice those things were ice-filled holes and you could target them from above, too.
You can't target them from above until after a set point in the fight which takes some time to reach
i used arrows and killed each colgera phase in 1 pass. i used the hoverbike + extra fans for all the koroks and green crystals. i used recall elevators to bypass any shrine puzzle that let me do it. i hoverbiked the entire fire temple. i homing cart hydrant’d the mud boss
>2/3 of Ganker didn't experience divekino
Holy shit.
Most of Ganker is too uncreative to even build a goblin gllider or hoverbike without the internet telling them.
any cheap and efficient way to kill phantom hands and ganon?
I beat it just like every enemy in the game
Just spam bomb arrows
why is the zonai cannon so weak yet uses so much energy
shit just knocks enemies around and deals no damage
for what purpose?
I hate that it took me so long to think to use cannons for mining. Attached one to a spear and it lasted forever.
>shoot two arrows per weakpoint
>it works
>updraft refills your stamina so you can keep doing it without any penalty
I mean, sure if divebombing was the point you could've just not let the player use the same exact effective way to kill things from the previous game here. Arrows shouldn't have destroyed the ice at all.
