I prefer not to get fired but let's just say some people on Ganker like it while others hate it.
So basically it could be any company. Not indie. I make a living wage.
I'm not in charge of my project's P&Ls, so if you play my shit that's a win in my book. I hope you find you at least get your money's worth!
anon's my uncle, he works at nintendo
I go paddleboarding with Reggie, even
every job has crunch times you fricking baby
Nah, it's becoming more discouraged now, too, thanks to the press. In truth it gets blown out of proportion by the media and insiders and whistleblowers. Some people actually like working crunch because it's more money to do more of what they like doing, anyways.
The real drama stories are typically from woke do-nothings upset they were laid off for being exactly that.
Otherwise, yeah, there's total sweatshops that run you to death on exposure and getting your name on <big thing>. Anyone with a brain knows it ain't worth it. Also why big AAA projects are typically meat grinders for inexperienced devs looking to catch a break. That's one of the real smoking guns why AAA quality keeps nosediving.
Same but I didn't become a game designer, I became a depressed wageslave like they wanted me to and kime my father was
They are so proud of me now while I secretly wish they were dead
I will say this: All of Ganker's darling companies are sweatshops with terrible working conditions they argue are necessary for "quality." In reality these companies throw money around more than others and brute force their products out the door with armies of contract workers and outsourcers.
Some of the major companies Ganker shits on the most for an assortment of reasons are actually the best to work for. Friends give me shit for some of our flops (even ones I didn't work on) but the management calls weren't ours as devs to make. They do respect, empathize and take care of us when it happens, though.
Diamonds are created under intense conditions. I can guarantee no game you've worked on will be remembered in a decade. It'll get false praise from journalists and then be forgotten, like Bioshock Infinite.
>Diamonds are created under intense conditions.
It's less making diamonds and more wasting assloads of money on dirty coal so you can shit out more cubic zirconia than you would diamonds, because you simply can't make diamonds with the management calls made
>If you aren’t lying for clout
I'm anon why tf would I do it for clout? Sometimes I just like explaining how it is because gamers (and alleged "journalists") get this industry so very, very wrong. Even those with insiders feeding them bs.
Likewise, stuff like this >I can guarantee no game you've worked on will be remembered in a decade
I'm not doing this for a legacy, my dude. It's my job and I enjoy working on vidya. Most actors don't act to get famous. The chances are astronomically low. They do it because they like acting.
Biggest ones usually are >Producer titles are in charge >Devs release games unfinished or bad out of spite >Game budgets > Marketing budgets >Cross-studio drama existing in any way >Everyone working in games is woke pushing an agenda (I mean, *some* disciplines just are out of occupation culture, like artists) >The devs decide what games they make >Games start production shortly after the first trailer drops. In reality is YEARS before that >Just generally thinking we hate our players, or players on other platforms
The last one is hilarious. Nobody puts up with tech bullshit and painstakingly trying to fix game issues/bugs just to have a deadline hit we have no control over. All because we wanted it that way to piss you off.
These seem worded in a way that give you more weight than you actually have, most of these points aren't that focused on in discussions >Producer titles are in charge
They aren't, but they should be the middle man between the bussiness side of the company and the developers, and most of the time they're just the messengers of the former. >Devs release games unfinished or bad out of spite
No creative project ever gets finished. Does not mean the makers should not have bit more standards about the state they release it. The "art of wrapping it up", as my boss used to say >Game budgets > Marketing budgets
Pretty sure the entire vomplain is that this is not the case and should. Of course, marketing budget is tied to how big the company is, but the more you invest in it, the more I feel you're not trying to sell the game based on quality but forcing it. >Cross-studio drama existing in any way
This is real and I don't know ehy you would ever argue against, altho drama is usually just lack of communication and not heated discussions. But we've had plenty of cases of problems between studios and divisions across the world, specially clashes of values. I'll give you that these are rarely the cause of problems, though. >Everyone working in games is woke pushing an agenda
In big companies they are, or at best you have to keep your head down about it. >The devs decide what games they make
No, but I hope you understand that if you don't have input, you're a "cog in the machine", then something is wrong in this creative driven project. >Games start production shortly after the first trailer drops. In reality is YEARS before that
Unless you're cyberpunk or the multiples games that sid it. But you're right most trailers drop at least halfway into development if not later. >Just generally thinking we hate our players, or players on other platforms
It's more a refusal to aknowledge your fanbase or part of it, and the "high on farts" mentality many modern devs have.

I never said I was CEO of Nintendo, anon. But I'm up there enough to know how a studio is run. >They should be the middle man between the bussiness side of the company and the developers
Game producers are actually closer to project planners in other industries. At least in most places. What you're thinking of are product owners associated with scrum. We have those too. >the makers should not have bit more standards
We have them, but it's not our call to execute them. Time is money, as they say. Wish we did have the means to argue more time = more money. That does happen, but it's rarely the case. That's true of almost all studios without some ulterior funding. *cough* china >the more you invest in it, the more I feel you're not trying to sell the game based on quality but forcing it.
That's sadly the reality for most studios. And it's never a dev call. >This is real and I don't know ehy you would ever argue against
Feel free to drop a source. We support each other because we know how hard it is to make games. Even ones that turn out bad. >In big companies they are, or at best you have to keep your head down about it.
You do have to keep your head down but everyone is professional enough to work beyond letting it impact work. Most of the time. At larger studios there's always a virtue signaling crowd, but execs are smart enough to know how to keep that from impacting developments. Unless they want it that way. Some studios actually do and the game suffers for it. Fortunately not mine. >if you don't have input, you're a "cog in the machine",
My dude, on a project with hundreds, not everyone can call the big shots. Believe it or not, not everyone wants to be a Kojima/Miyamoto/Todd/Whoever. They just like the work and find ways to influence that. >It's more a refusal to aknowledge your fanbase
This is a big part of the misconception. The fanbase is fully acknowledged from start to finish
Also a very small number of people actually make calls about what we ship.
When Ganker attacks devs for making woke games, we just read that like "um...lol? i wouldn't have made this either, but we're asked to so I'll at least try to make the missions/whatever im tasked with fun."
I hate to admit it, but when I have to work on something super woke, it's actually kind of fun. You start thinking things like >This is a dumpster fire, but I can influence <x> so frick it, I'm just going to focus really hard on making <x> actually good
There was one feature I worked on exclusively for a massive flop. It was the only feature absolutely no one complained about. I don't care how low that MC score was, my chest stayed high
