It's about as much of an "adaptation" of Rondo of Blood as the first series was an "adaptation" of Castlevania 3, that is to say not at all beyond some character names being similar. Like, the show features characters named "Richter", "Maria", "Anette", "Tera" and "Olroc", and at one point a rendition of Divine Bloodlines plays, but that's pretty much where the similarities start and end.
One of the biggest and most resounding complaints I’ve seen about the show is regarding Annette. Like oh my god, the constant hate on the character, writers, and production team because she’s…black? From the Caribbean? Are you kidding me?

Like, the show features characters named "Richter", "Maria", "Anette", "Tera" and "Olroc", and at one point a rendition of Divine Bloodlines plays, but that's pretty much where the similarities start and end.

There's literally nothing in common with Rondo. Richter and Maria are functionally completely different characters with different stories. Annette is straight-up a completely original character who just lifts the name from a game character.
They could've just made an original Belmont named Theodore Belmont with his two female buddies Alice and Kwama and LITERALLY nothing would've changed.
I'm convinced the only reason they didn't do that was because they knew people liked Richter and wanted to make the audience onions out of their minds when he has his epic lightsaber moment by pulling out the bandana and playing Bloodlines.

There's so much that you can extrapolate from that framework to make a compelling single season arc and they didn't even attempt that
