waste of time. Also people idealize dream world, I never played it because it sucked. Time limits, some minigames were tedious and the rewards were only useful for competitive anyway.
It wasn't great, but it was the only way to farm berries and the games were fine as a time-killer between lecture and lab during my university classes. If nothing else, it's worth preserving as part of the intended experience of the gen 5 games.

If I remember, you can steal berries from wild pokemon in game. Just not some rare ones.

you can buy them in BW2, but in BW1 you're just fricked
BW is the only game besides FRLG where you just can't lower EVs

They probably thought kids found berry farming boring and too easy to forget about, and they wouldn't have been wrong from my kid perspective. Still seems strange for them to do that immediately after they put in a way to find your berries when they're ripe.

When I was a kid I would always autistically check and water the berries
That's because the Gen 4 wifi content is all in the actual game - there's nothing to emulate, the actual game needs to connect to the server.
The Dream World was entirely server side and won't ever be recreated (barring another big Nintendo leak - if it even still exists and is something a hacker would actually care about). The best you'd ever be able to get is original, fan-produced content that interacts with the games in the same way the Dream World did.
The actual dream world stuff isn't playable (yet) but there are genuine efforts to restore and/or recreate it
