ds1 sucks because of how esoteric and unnecessarily convoluted it is, for example if you die to enemies that cause curse damage your total health pool is halved, until you seek out this birds nest in the hub area and crouch in it for 30 seconds. you would never figurer this out without a guide in a million years. the game is full of retarted shit like this and youll get lost constantly, just play 3 or even 2, it gets a bad wrap but its actually much better than one

I was able to beat this game at the age of 15 all alone.

I dont even know why on earth you think you need to do that to get uncursed. There's a vendor you meet way before ever getting cursed that sells items that uncurse you.

is dark souls easier for new players than bloodborne?

        >i beat it blind when I was in diapers
don't get this line of logic, I play tons of games extremely well platformers, shooters, hack and slash, RTS, strategy fighting but sometimes a game filters me, i haven't played dark souls but Bloodborne definitely was unplayable at least not with the amount of checkpoints in first level

playing either one before the other instills many bad habits for the other
all my friends who played BB as their first fromsoft game cant play DS because its too slow and they get greedy trying to be fast like a hunter
I started at DS [and am the only person I know who did] and it took me like 3 bosses into BB to stop playing it like dark souls and learn how BB was meant to be played
          >my first cleric beast kill I literally transformed the axe into 2h mode and said 'Im going to literally just mash r1 forever and not dodge anything beacuse this healing mechanic is really broken'
my BB friends were genuinely miffed that it worked and I killed yhe boss mashing R1 into its crotch

Every time I see someone on this board use the word esoteric to describe a video game they’re a god damn dummy. You can buy Purging Stones from Oswald over in the near the bell tower where you fought the gargoyles.

    >Should i just go in blind?

This series are the ultimate 'blind run' games. Don't ruin them for yourself. It's okay if you get stuck and can't figure out where to get titanite or whatever, but don't ruin anything else.

    >should I just go in blind?
    yes
one piece of advice: the game has many paths and you're not meant to go down all of them at the start. When you're stuck try to explore and find other paths. Also, any weapon is viable so long as you invest in it.

Do not spoil your experience with anything else

the whole "dark souls so hard" made my friend believe it was just supposed to be like that. He thought the game had that reputation because it was all tuned like SL1 skeleton graveyard. He essentially figured it's the ARPG equivalent of a kaizo game. I know of multiple other people who had this issue. I resent the marketting these games had

I'm going blind but...I don't get the gifts. Which one do I pick?

      Anonymous

None of the gifts matter unless you're a loregay, then one matters. Personally I pick either Master Key for sequence breaking or Tiny Being's Ring for HP recovery. Old Witch's Ring is the lore starting gift.

        Anonymous

I usually go with Tiny Being's Ring for the minor hp boost early on. Master Key will just confuse new players.

pick the skelton key and forget about it unless you open a door that uses it. then avoid it unless the door leads somewhere you have been already, or you dont have enough souls to care about dying

doesnt really matter too much, only thing as a new player i recommend is not taking the master key because its main use is sequence breaking which you should try not to do
just pick whatevre sounds coolest or most useful

        I picked Binoculars.

What's the benefit of online play?

              Anonymous

You earn covenant items and humanity. Also it's fun to invade/be invaded.

                >covenant
                Like guilds and shit?

Human forces you into online mode which means you can be invaded by other players (including some scripted npc encounters) or work with them cooperatively if you see their signs. To become human you need a level of 1 humanity represented by the circle next to your health meter which you can easily get by consuming an item literally called humanity. Once you have 1 humanity you just use a bonfire to become human again.

You can summon other players to help you fight an area's boss, but there will be a chance that other players invade your world to try and kill you.
You can also read messages from other players with hints, or lies to deceive you. Don't need to be human for that, though.

Yeah, I did come across some of those messages. I assume most of them are lying.
Honestly I think I'll just ignore them and online play for the first playthrough considering I have no idea what I'm doing anyway.

                Anonymous

not summoning phantoms makes the game generally more fun the first time around. I recommend if you wanna coop or pvp you do it by putting your own signs down, not by hosting

                >I assume most of them are lying.
I feel they're honest more often than not, except when they tell you to jump down somewhere.
Either way, ignoring messages for a first playthrough might be better. They're sometimes akin to reading a guide.

Covenants is like a reputation system. Collect X amount of items from killing other players and you can earn items or more dialogue.

Consumables are something you should pick if you know what you're doing, i.e. on a second playthrough.
Binoculars can be found rather early one, too.
I'd pick one of the rings. The master key is really useful, but it can be a noob trap as well.

how do you get killed by poise

        Anonymous

Certain combo attacks with no poise will knock you down on the first hit and then you're downed and have recovery frames for the ofllowups
whereas if you can poise them and fail to dodge multiple it does not knock you down and can kill you in a combo
