how do I get into this series? Something about it draws me, as opposed to other mech games like AC or Mechwarrior, I dont know why.

Turn the game on and play it. Then you can decide on whether you liked it.
3 is pretty easy to get into, but overall it's not a super hardcore series
Play the FM1 on SNES first. It's nice and simple, does a good job introducing you to the series. Then, go in this order:
>Gun Hazard (run-and-gun semi-linear RPG)
>FM2 (original PSX w/ English patch)
>FM Alternative (unique and fun RTS)
>FM3
>*NOT* FM4, boring and ugly
>FM5 (absolute king of the franchise, the definition of swan song)
>Play the FM1 on SNES first
Nta but i found FM1 to be like homework. The amount of variables involved and making sure you made the "right" set of mechs stressed me out.
Not sure how you took that away when FM1 is the most like a classic JRPG "upgrade to the best stuff after each chapter" formula.
yea but there are so many options and what way you should upgrade your mech stressed me out.
>upgrade your mech stressed me out.
go play an arcade game then, you weak person.
This is very standard SRPG stuff. The point is to go into battle and see how you fare, tweaking and experimenting. And I would argue Front Mission is actually not an experiment-heavy example of the genre, but rather being more about kiting and positioning.
>>FM2 (original PSX w/ English patch)
it's still terrible. and ugly.
you don't, you have to be born into it
3 is terrible. Strategy is completely subservient to rng and they had to make the game very easy to keep it from being frustrating
If there is a good one it's a different game
I dont think 3 is that easy. Its not hard but its not uncommon to lose a battle and to have to retry it once or twice in order to figure out the optimal order of things.
Stylistically its a gorgeous game but dialogues are shit and 10 hours into it you realize its a fairly shallow and uninteresting gameplay loop wrapped into a super fancy package.
Also game does very little to adequately explain to you how customization really works. And there is a super early dialogue choice that completely changes the game and story without infering it at all.
It's soulful, I'll give it that at least.
Which route did you think was better? It's wild how different the two routes feel, to the point that it wouldn't surprise me if they had completely different writers.
I only did the sister route
Pretty much. I sold my copy.
It's a turn based strategy rpg so you will need a healthy dose of autism to enjoy it
>based strategy rpg so you will need a healthy dose of autism to enjoy it
it's not even half as hard as HOMM3.
I'm more of a rear mission man if you know what I mean
I don't know what you mean. Please explain it to me.
He likes to get fricked in the ass.
he comes after everyone else and cleans up their mess
FM3 has summaries of the plots of FM1 and 2 on its in-game internet as the 1st and 2nd Huffman Wars in case the earlier entries put you off with their pacing.
I made it to the Battle 37 before I looked up how many battles there are total (69). By this point the gameplay had gotten kinda stale to me and I was tired of the main character acting like a sperg (seriously, he's always angry and yelling at everyone). So, having felt like I played the game enough to have fully appreciated it but not wanting to double down my time with it by playing through my halfway point all the way to the end, I decided to move on to other games.
The highlight for me was running across Japan in stolen military mechs with an American spy to warn the world about a new, top secret WMD... and then the protagonist is shocked when he discovers that he's all over the news as a Most Wanted criminal on the run.
>running across Japan in stolen military mechs with an American spy
you picked the longer route with the dead sister ending. bad choice.
Doesn't the storyline direction depend on whether or not you accept the cool surfer dude's offer for drinks at the pub? There was no way I was turning that down, it was fate that forced my hand. Plus, going that way you meet the beautiful blonde woman who acts like she's DTF. But leave it to japs to make the storyline where you get laid the tragic one, shoulda just stuck to jerking off to your sister I guess.
>dead sister ending
is there a marry your sister ending? asking for a friend
That must be the one other ending, 'cuz in my playthrough the MC can't stop talking about his siter even when he's in bed with his gf.
3 is kinda disappointing, idk how sister route is but jesus christ 3 drops subplots like bricks. you get introduced to neat characters but they do almost nothing with them. main story is literally just a rip off of zeta gundam. like not even joking lmao
>rip off of Zeta Gundam
Kek I might actually just watch that instead of finishing the game. Not that it's bad, but after like 30 hours or however long its been, combat starts to feel shallow once the excitement of RNG skill activations wear off.
Damn, now i kinda want to play this or armored core. But im kinda doing a game now so i cant commit since im enjoying the game im playing now and ive gotta try my best before i put it down.
