How do I get into this series?
I don't know whether I should go for World or Rise first.
My friends already played the shit out of World, and I think co-op is a huge incentive and fun factor here unless I'm mistaken, so should I opt for Rise?

Play World it's literally retard proof.
This but Rise.
This guy made it all the way through base world and didn't quit until iceborne, but couldn't make it through village 3 star in rise.
World is closer to traditional MH gameplay than rise is (though it was the biggest departure at the time, except for maybe generations). However it is a colossal pain in the ass to play co op, especially early-mid game. There are a bunch of missions that your teammates can't join until you've watched all the cutscenes, and sometimes you have to go on "expeditions" that friends can't join. I've been trying to play it with my friend recently and its led to periods of 5-15 minutes where I just have to stand around in town waiting for him to watch cutscenes/complete expeditions.
I believe Rise is much simpler in that regard.
If you're on steam then World and Rise have legit the SAME size playerbase according to the charts. World feels more completely of a game but ONLY once you get to iceborne. World overall had a bunch of changes and pointless (probably western inspired) shit added to it that wasn't originally there like
says.
I haven't tried the expansion to rise because the base game was so braindead easy my friends and I finished all the content and moved on before shit could be added. It might be my least favorite monster hunter to date. The PSP and 3DS were where I first fell in love with MH and Iceborne was where I had some of the most fun. If there was a way you could possibly play 3U and 4U with friends I would have suggested that but if the options are World vs Rise? Easily World.
If anything the difference between base Rise + Sunbreak is even more than that of World + Iceborne. Whether sunbreak or iceborne is better is up to you but the jump is insane with how barebones and easy base Rise was
I'd say it's the reverse. Base world is abysmal, and while the crutch claw sucks a chode, iceborne does so much more for world than sunbreak does for rise. Significant improvement to world's abysmal roster, hoarfrost is easily the best map of the game, better music, actual difficulty, and even the subspecies generally significantly improved on the base fight.
By comparison, one of the best things sunbreak did was to simply drop one of the most annoying things about rise. Afflicted is far better than tempered, but the system itself is way too grindy. I personally hope that for title update 5, they not only make leveling your anomaly research level a lot quicker, but allow you to spend amber to level up investigations up to your research level.
>Sniff shit
>hit monster
>chase him for half an hour
>sniff more shit
>hit monster again
Why would you get into this series?
Maybe he isn't shit at video games.
because its a fucking autism simulator. People that play this shit still play Diablo. GRIND GRIND GAMBLE GAMBLE
If it takes you half an hour to kill a monster you're dogshit
None of the games are connected so you can start with any game, if your friends are playing rise then go play rise.
World is objectively the tutorial MH
why do mouthbreathers say rise is easier than world? not only is world obviously more hand-holdy at the start (as evident ITT) but even the endgame grind of TED investigations and guiding lines is a braindead joke trivialized by lifesteal augments and mantles. as opposed to anomaly investigations, which regularly push your shit in if you aren't 100% focused. nothing even poses a threat in world until alatreon and fatty.
>new mh comes out
>WOOOOOW WHY IS THIS GAME EASIER THAN THE GRANK OF THE LAST GAME WHICH IS STILL FRESH IN MY MIND THIS IS BULLSHIT CAPCOM COME OOOOON
>G rank comes out
>WTF THIS IS BULLSHIT EVERYTHING 1 SHOTS ME HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN REEEE
>new mh comes out
Rise is objectively the easiest MH game. I shouldn't be able to beat Rajang on low rank gear the first mission he shows up in, yet I did.
The moves and wire bugs give you so much defensive and offensive potential it's not even funny.
Being the easiest is hardly the worst thing a game has ever been.
In my opinion base world is better than base rise, but I like sun break more than ice borne. Didn't really like the clutch claw.
Rise is the 2nd easiest monster hunter. World is significantly easier.
I disagree but it is pretty easy too
Would you feel inferior if rise is easier?
i can only assume this is thinly veiled console war inciting bait, fuck off
You are afraid of the truth.
Rise+Sunbreak is fine to start with, just know that wirebugs were a pretty dramatic addition to gameplay and don't reflect the typical MH experience. World 2 will likely not include them.
>World 2 will likely not include them.
Hopefully, but the slinger and slinger burst was pretty good, specially because you could reposition and aim your next attack.
Get your friends into playing one of the good ones. Like FU or 3U.
You have to have friends to do everything in World, you ain't going to find randoms doing kulve or safi this days, rise can be played completely solo and it's significantly easier.
>post quest
>start quest
>loading screen
>watch cutscene
>leave quest
>loading screen
>post quest again
>friends can join this time
>start quest again
>loading screen
>actually play the fucking game
imagine having to do this for the entire game, what the fuck were they thinking
Extremely fucking tedious if you want to do everything together, in that regard rise is superior but monsters are so easy and the wirebug is so busted and there's no reason to play with anyone, furthermore sunbreak added companion NPC's that in most cases are more useful than most randoms.
World is shit don't bother with it
>Friend bought himself and I a copy of world
>doing that early mission where you kill a barroth(?) That mud monster with the weird helmet looking skull
>I kill him myself easily using that cactus dude that's around
>my friend gets absolutely destroyed by him and says the cactus did no damage
>he rage quits and uninstalls and we never play it again
what weapon are you going to use
Not OP but what's the character customisation like in this (the latest 2 monhu's) once you start the game and leave the initial character creator?
There's a suprising lack of recent games where you can play dress up
It's good in both games, plenty of hairstyles and such, nothing as cool as dragons dogma character creator but you can created some good looking waifus if that's what you want.
>play world first
>have a decent challenge, but the only walls in base game were extremoth and ancient leshen, and barioth, alatreon, and fatalis in iceborne
>brush off people telling me to play the older games
>don't want to try rise
>end up installing citra and downloading a 4u rom
>beat low rank without too much trouble
>instantly filtered by emerald congalala
I kneel, oldfags
Try 3tri.
Yeah, world high rank is honestly on par with the hub low ranks for 3rd and 4th gen
This is why all the "monster hunter isn't easier you guys, you just are more experienced now and better at the game!" fags are full of shit. Put any 5th gen baby into any prior game, even relatively easy ones like gen/XX, and they'll get their ass kicked far more than someone who has never played a monster hunter at all would playing world or rise for the first time.
i have a harder time in world than i ever did in older mh games. mons are 2 fast with big aoe mmo bullshit
>world
>2 fast
Some of the g rank (oh, I'm sorry, g rank sounds too japanese, MASTER RANK) monsters in iceborne are slower than their high and even low rank counterparts from previous games
>big aoe mmo bullshit
Only the big mmo bullshit monsters like behemoth, most hitboxes in world feel like they saw the ridiculous hitboxes of 1st and 2nd gen monhun and decided to go in the complete opposite direction. I'll often watch a tail or limb of a monster clip through my hunter, but the hitbox was apparently smaller than the model.
if your friends are already done with world and haven't touched rise then yeah go with rise and make sure you buy sunbreak
World is the best intro to the series by far. The next best would be rise.
World is a bit more grounded while rise has some new fancy stuff. World does have claw / mantles but those can be ignored for the most part. And the good ones are later in the game anyway.
I'd play World then rise and if you enjoyed rise more, play GU. If you enjoyed World more, play 4u or 3u.
Would using SnS be bad if I don't have an intent or focus on using items all too much?
I like the aesthetic and the combo.
That's just an added bonus, 95% of the time you're only ever using potions to heal yourself anyways
Of course
You'll be a bit lower in clear times but that hardly matters. And it'll be a good crutch to learn because you can just load up on healing items and heal quickly while learning boss patterns.
Of course it wouldn't*
All weapons are viable.
There's something OP about all of them you can abuse.
I never use items and it's one of my most used weapons. Hell it's better to sheath to heal so you can sprint while drinking. The shield is hugely buffed too and SnS is like the third best KO weapon now (minus bowgun shenanigans I am not familiar with)
Don't.
MH went to shit when world released.
But if you want to, play the following older games: Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate.
If you want to solo, play Freedom Unite.
>If you want to solo, play Freedom Unite.
only village that is, hub is fucking AIDS to do solo because the monsters have a gazillion hp, especially in g rank
>How do I get into this series?
Pick one that was released in the past year
If you think it's too tedious, try World
If you still aren't into it, Monhun isn't for you
Simple as
>released in the past year
past decade*
sorry, I'm retarded
Only play the rpg games and stay away from the jrpg (stories).
Multiplayer in Rise is kind of mediocre, most of the fun I've had with these games was figuring out the monsters' patterns and beating the shit out of them on my own.
Whatever you do make sure to watch a tutorial of the weapon you choose and practice a bit in the training area, the games don't do a very good job of explaining all the possible moves and nuances of the weapons.
only played world and i liked it. got over a 100 hours into it and not even touched ice world.
Rise is just a re-done bingbing World.
Play World, then Rise
Should I buy Rise and Sunbreak on the steam sale? Haven't played since 3U.
yes it's fun as fuck once you reach the sunbreak content. the three lords, gore/shagaru, astalos and valstrax are great.
Forgot to ask, is there any reroll shit like charm tables I have to worry about?
charms are random and qurio armor crafting is random as well
There are random charm tables, but once you get to endgame Sunbreak there is an option that greatly increases the chance to get a "pretty good" charm. So until then, just roll as you play and use whatever you get that's good enough.
$40 is honestly a pretty decent deal for sunrise, so I'd say go for it
Go with World. It's a much better game than Rise.
Play Dauntless
Everyone has their own game, and a lot of them think their game is better and all the other games are shit.
I started with world and I had fun, now playing rise and I like it, pick a game, or a few of them and have fun, fuck naysaers.
But with that in mind CAPCOM GIVE ME MORUDOMONTO DAMN IT, I WANT MY DARK SOULS BATMAN ARMOR
