i have played the leak for a bit
it's weird to me that there is still a game that doesn't have dialogue log in the year of 2024
It also annoyed me that there is no quest journal
I hope they would implement these in 1st day patch
Quality of life is abhorrent. But the game is so good i literally can't put it down. Dunno how it stacks to Suikoden 2 yet but it's super enjoyable thus far.
Story wise it's different enough thus far and having a voiced MC is a huge upgrade over Riou, because he actually develops a bond and chemistry with the characters
Is it RNG? I thought it's 2 left 1 right. Or maybe i got lucky.

i am not sure about the other difficulty but it's definitely not pseudo rng in hard mode. I failed multiple times in a row and i only picked the left book these times
What's the MC romance like in this game? Is it some kind of half baked choice system like most rpgs nowadays? Or a clear main love interest ending? Or no romance at all with just a harem of girls after the MC and no closure?
It's likely better to do the opposite, steal 1 or 2 and then play the other games if you liked 1 or 2.
High chances this is the typical shittily written modern rpg, compared to the roughly written older rpgs were at least the writers had some passion or sense that they were writing something original (because not literally every idea was already done by a popular game).
No idea yet but Suikoden games range from implied crush from one of the side girls to MC being a literal Kwisatz Haderach and even his own aunt wanting to bang him

Do you need a completed Rising save, or just a save? I played Rising on Gamepass, but am playing this on PC and I don't really want to replay the entirety of Rising.
This game has one of the best japanese VAs i've seen in a while. All key characters are voiced by great VAs, some go out of their way to deliver absolutely AMAZING performance

I'm not liking what I'm hearing about animations taking a long time and about there being no fast forward, but I am nevertheless eagerly awaiting release so that I can comfily pirate it on my Switch emulator. She's made out of glass and is slow as frick. Even the magical e-girl has more HP than her. Definitely give her offensive magic instead of healing magic.
The game renders really weird on the Deck. The top and bottom have static parts that feel like they should be covered with letterboxes or something.
Are there additional settings that need to be changed for it to render properly?
I had an issue in the beta where some of the boxes seemed super aliased for some reason. Particularly, the portraits of characters. No idea. I'm gonna play the final version on my actual PC.

Suicide Squad KTJL making Harley Quinn an ugly, quirky, girlboss, with no motivation, making all the male heroes dumb chuds who get humiliated, yet wonderwoman is conveniently spared and doesn't have to be killed by you, she instead dies heroically inspiring even the villians who spent their lives hating heroes.
The new Spider Man making Peter a loser and having him upstaged by both Miles and Mary Jane.
Starfield not having any truly evil characters or major ideological conflicts because they didn't want to encourage wrong-think. All of the companions preaching ethics to you constantly. Not being able to loot clothes or blow people's heads off anymore because devs thought it was demeaning to women.

I'll give you some with Starfield being a boring mess, but how do the first two affect the gameplay? Or are you just saying DEI makes games' story worse? Would removing Miles and Mary Jane have made Spiderman good? Would making Harley Quinn hot and a loser have fixed it for you?
Anonymous
>but how do the first two affect the gameplay?
That wasn't what you originally asked. DEI is obviously going to primarily affect the story, characters, and plot which I would consider part of the game.
I'm not sure what "diverse gameplay" would even be. How would you identify that?
>Would removing Miles and Mary Jane have made Spiderman good?
I don't think they would have to be removed, but if the story focused more on Peter being the hero of the story rather than a washed up relic being replaced by someone more competent, then yes I'd say that would fix the main issue in terms of writing.
>Would making Harley Quinn hot and a loser have fixed it for you?
I think she's already a loser as are the entire suicide squad. Wonder-woman is the only character in the game presented as competent. But yes if they kept Harley Quinn as a hot amoral yandere and had her fight wonder-woman rather than kiss her ass then i'd consider that much more entertaining and consistent with the previously established characters.

You may not like Witcher 3, but it's a beloved game. With the Witcher 3, CD Project became one of the most beloved studios. So yeah, there was a certain confidence that it would be great.

What's DEI?
I hope they kept the DEI down to a minimum. Getting mainstream appeal because it's a kickstarter means it's gonna get sweet babied.
I really, really want to play Eiyuden.
But I kind of don't want to do it this year.
I am already deep in two, huge, other games. With several other huge games, including Elden Ring's DLC, on the horizon.
But the pre-order bonuses and season pass bullshit and everything for Eiyuden is annoying. Like the game will probably be cheaper a year from now, but will it be forever incomplete if I wait? Must I pay $80 right now even though I won't play it for months?
I don't even have Rising and needing to buy Rising for all the content makes the game even more expensive.
There's going to be at least 2+ months of patches to iron out bugs and fix performance issues, so there's no rush.
>so there's no rush.
But then I'll have to pirate the pre-order bonuses or play an incomplete game.
But if I have to resort to piracy anyway, then what the frick am I even paying for the game to begin with?
I hate this kind of stuff.
I guess this is my punishment for not backing the game.

Are you guys enjoying this game? I'm 15h and I'm enjoying it so far. I guess it's not a mindblowing experience so I can see why long term backers would be disappointed but as someone who was expecting more of Suikoden it's gud.
Haven't expected much but the game is great and is full of soul.
I hope they will fix random encounter fps bug and a recruiting bug soon though.
The only gripe I have with the game is how unresponsive and slow UI is. Dash Boots should've been the default speed as well and not a permanent waste of an accessory slot.
You get a support slot ally who is just 2x move speed without taking up your equipment slots, though then you can't have a gathering/money after battle/random buff ally in the slot.
how's character recruitment?
in the suikoden games I always felt like I was screwed without a guide
You can get a seer who will give you pointers to recruits for 300 barqua. Some of the hints suck though. So far I haven't needed a guide for it even with the less good hints so you should be fine, as long as they patch the bug for recruiting Lam which you're likely to trigger if you're looking for recruits as you play from having played Suikoden or if you just talk to everyone on reflex like most JRPG players, just avoid talking to the blond woman in Daphan until the old drunk guy has you take him there and you'll be good though.
There are some that might be, a few people seem to be investigating one or two at least. But if you check with your seer each time there's a major progression you'll have an easy time finding them before they could be cut off. Suikoden had a few in each game so I wouldn't be surprised if the ones people are looking into are here too.
I went and looked at Suikosource for the first time in awhile. It's really pleasing to see the forums having some activity. I love that site.
Maybe... maybe my dream can come true and we can get a Lunar sequel as well. Lunar.net is still alive. Still updated. I'd love to see it get some loving. The guy who runs it is such a nice guy.
My only issue with the game is that it doesn't innovate in terms of ui. The quality of life is abhorrent compared to current releases >no text log >molasses slow menuing >abhorrent menu layout in general
or instead of reading a 200 reply deep thread likely full of "how pirate" "reee dei" etc. you could literally give your opinion in as short of words as you did crying about me not reading
I rank it highly. As a Suikoden game with it being so disconnected and standalone yeah that kind of sucks. Standalone it's pretty great save for the bottle load times. Formations were a great addition. The war battles peaked here. Lot of neat party members and the setting was great too. One of the coolest castles to boot.
I remember I wanted to restart because I didn't know the dialogue actually mattered but then never did.
Is it a "you should guide" game or is it better to just roll with the punches and let what will be, be.
There are like only 3 relevant decisions that do not have to do with recruitment ( 2 to unlock an ending variant, one very obvious to keep recruited character alive). The rest are pretty much shit you do to recruit people
Otokonoko is a fine troope.
What makes it irritating is that homosexuals on reddit/twitter immediately think that otokonoko is automatically gay or a boy that wants to be a girl.
>And what is with random NPCs telling me I'm not at their level?
Probably minimum character level required. I think there's some like this in Suikodens and I know there are for weapon level minimums.
>And what is with random NPCs telling me I'm not at their level?
You haven't gotten started on the Beigoma battles yet, they're people you can play against. Check the bottom left area of Eltisweiss for a guy who looks like he's from Beyblade to get started.
About 22 hours in and judging by everything from items to story I think I got max 1/3 left
I would still say Suikoden 2 is a much better overall game. Besides the dated jrpg systems the story and the ost is just weak as hell
going by the "slash in half" metric accounting for less-than-pidgeon-brained journalists, 20-25
that's being generous though, a looooot of work has to go into giving RPGs length
Seems decent so far but I hate the new trend of having 3d environments with 2d character models that everybody is doing now.
What was so wrong with doing full 3d like Suikoden 5? Is it just because characters are hard to get right in 3d?
So does the game have a fast forward for battles or anything for skipping scenes? An hour in, and im getting alil annoyed of getting stopped every few steps with a cutscene. Having a cutscene where everyone just has to congratulate me for solving a kids shapes door puzzle in the ruins was just mind numbing.
Is there something to do in Werne village? I just got thru the 6 month time skip and can freely run around. Everyone in town talks about some bandits in town, but i cant find anyone special looking.
I figured it out. You have to search for the steam API 64.dll and overwrite it. It isn’t in the root directory, you have to go a couple folders in.

Suikoden 2 is better. This isn't a diss on Eiyuden. I'm just saying, give this a go, enjoy it, then find some time for Suikoden.
NTA but my plan is to give this a try and grab the Suikoden HD Remasters if I like it.

Thanks for the dolphin porn bro
Is the game any good?
Do you get a provoke-type rune? Tank-type characters don't seem very useful otherwise.
I hope they kept the DEI down to a minimum. Getting mainstream appeal because it's a kickstarter means it's gonna get sweet babied.
What's DEI?
The latest /misc/bot boogeyman.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are organizational frameworks which seek to promote the fair treatment and full participation of all people, particularly groups who have historically been underrepresented or subject to discrimination on the basis of identity or disability.
And this is a bad thing?
Inherently no but it has a president of making things worse
>president of making things worse
who
just look at a lot of modern AAA games, I doubt its an issue for this game though
Give me examples of how DEI was the reason why a AAA wasn't good
pokemon go
That's just the name of a game, you didn't explain why DEI makes it bad. Do you have some comprehension disorder?
They know, they dont care, they are just looking to score points.
>Give me examples of how DEI was the reason why a AAA wasn't good
Suicide Squad KTJL making Harley Quinn an ugly, quirky, girlboss, with no motivation, making all the male heroes dumb chuds who get humiliated, yet wonderwoman is conveniently spared and doesn't have to be killed by you, she instead dies heroically inspiring even the villians who spent their lives hating heroes.
The new Spider Man making Peter a loser and having him upstaged by both Miles and Mary Jane.
Starfield not having any truly evil characters or major ideological conflicts because they didn't want to encourage wrong-think. All of the companions preaching ethics to you constantly. Not being able to loot clothes or blow people's heads off anymore because devs thought it was demeaning to women.
not him but none of those games were gonna be good DEI was the least of there problems
I'll give you some with Starfield being a boring mess, but how do the first two affect the gameplay? Or are you just saying DEI makes games' story worse? Would removing Miles and Mary Jane have made Spiderman good? Would making Harley Quinn hot and a loser have fixed it for you?
>but how do the first two affect the gameplay?
Not to mention the correlation between studios diversifying the skin color of employees and it ruining their games (bugs, poorly written and designed games). No bigger example than cyberpunk
>than cyberpunk
Another game that was never gonna be good
You may not like Witcher 3, but it's a beloved game. With the Witcher 3, CD Project became one of the most beloved studios. So yeah, there was a certain confidence that it would be great.
>but it's a beloved game
yeah beloved by morons
Frick off you disgusting /misc/rat
It did make a company go out of business recently.
A company? Down with DEI!
Frick off you insufferable homosexual
Do I need to play the kangaroos with yuri prequel for this?
No
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH WHO GIVES A SHIT JUST TELL ME IF THERE’S ROMANCE OR NOT
Do you mean like dating sim stuff or do you mean just is there any romance in the plotline?
Either or. Optional or canon. Any info. Thank you in advance.
Just wait then. It'll be there. There's DLC coming that seems to be included, so that'll come eventually.
>Just wait then.
>so there's no rush.
But then I'll have to pirate the pre-order bonuses or play an incomplete game.
But if I have to resort to piracy anyway, then what the frick am I even paying for the game to begin with?
I hate this kind of stuff.
I guess this is my punishment for not backing the game.
There's going to be at least 2+ months of patches to iron out bugs and fix performance issues, so there's no rush.
>I am already deep in two, huge, other games. With several other huge games, including Elden Ring's DLC, on the horizon.
>I hate this kind of stuff.
>I guess this is my punishment for not backing the game.
Dude, it's not a big fricking deal. Go play other games and once you're done you can maybe get this game on a discount or pirate it.
unrelated but my big thing about playing things on launch is launch time is when all the discussion happens
feels much lonelier to play months down the road
I guess. It's a rarity that Ganker discuss vidya normally instead of shitposting or culture wars shit. Even the dreadlocks bawd wasn't enough to create massive shitposting
launch-week threads for non-headliner games are some of the comfiest times around
>Go play other games and once you're done you can maybe get this game on a discount or pirate it.
Yeah. But I won't get the pre-order stuff.
My game will be incomplete.
>having fun with initial post castle exploraiton
>suddenly cuts off to a tribe of magical Black folk and australians with a mascot called "poopa"
come the frick on
>Black person on the cover
>shit woke translation with "did you just assume their gender?" lines and calling people chuds
shocking
>2024
>still hasn't learned Japanese
L M A O
>>shit woke translation with "did you just assume their gender?" lines and calling people chuds
yeah, im sure that happens
Do you need to play rising first?
That game is complete and utter garbage.
And no.
Backed a physical Switch copy but I heard the performance is shit so I just bought a Steam key.
Are you guys enjoying this game? I'm 15h and I'm enjoying it so far. I guess it's not a mindblowing experience so I can see why long term backers would be disappointed but as someone who was expecting more of Suikoden it's gud.
yes, but i would like to throw away pooby
I finally got my castle. I didn't realize that I was basically in a tutorial until then.
Yeah, the game is really lacking on QoL stuff for some reason. It's not a dealbreaker but it could make the experience better if they improved it.
You get a support slot ally who is just 2x move speed without taking up your equipment slots, though then you can't have a gathering/money after battle/random buff ally in the slot.
You can get a seer who will give you pointers to recruits for 300 barqua. Some of the hints suck though. So far I haven't needed a guide for it even with the less good hints so you should be fine, as long as they patch the bug for recruiting Lam which you're likely to trigger if you're looking for recruits as you play from having played Suikoden or if you just talk to everyone on reflex like most JRPG players, just avoid talking to the blond woman in Daphan until the old drunk guy has you take him there and you'll be good though.
bug aside, are there perma-missables? I remember that being a thing in suikodens (or I may be misremembering)
There are some that might be, a few people seem to be investigating one or two at least. But if you check with your seer each time there's a major progression you'll have an easy time finding them before they could be cut off. Suikoden had a few in each game so I wouldn't be surprised if the ones people are looking into are here too.
will keep in mind, thanks
Even with multipel audio files, 20 gB size feels a bit much
>switch phys delayed by month
How's the localization?
anywhere I can see all the characters?
I went and looked at Suikosource for the first time in awhile. It's really pleasing to see the forums having some activity. I love that site.
Maybe... maybe my dream can come true and we can get a Lunar sequel as well. Lunar.net is still alive. Still updated. I'd love to see it get some loving. The guy who runs it is such a nice guy.
lunarpill me. I played the first and it was... okay.
I have no idea how to respond to that. I guess did you play the Sega CD game or the PS1 game? Else, just play the one other game in the series.
>All this praise
He really died way too young. He needed at least two more games before departing this world.
Maybe he should've cut down on the ramen.
>every complaint is about how bad the switch version is and that it plays too much like a PS1/PS2 jrpg and doesn't innovate.
game sounds fantastic.
My only issue with the game is that it doesn't innovate in terms of ui. The quality of life is abhorrent compared to current releases
>no text log
>molasses slow menuing
>abhorrent menu layout in general
>no text log
lmao who even uses those
the game has a field conversation system you can easily miss sometimes
how is it? i love suikoden series but the last eiyuden game, the arpg one on gamepass, was really disappointing.
read the fricking thread
or instead of reading a 200 reply deep thread likely full of "how pirate" "reee dei" etc. you could literally give your opinion in as short of words as you did crying about me not reading
it's alright
>i love suikoden series
you'll like it then
II > V > EC:HH > I > III > IV > Tierkreis
good to hear EC is so high. I'd swap 3 and 1 tho personally.
What about Suikoden Tactics? Yes, that's a "thing"
It's pretty good. If you take 4 and Tactics as a combined game, it really improves 4 quite a bit.
I haven't played Tactics, the PSP game, or the Nash visual novels.
Tactics is good. I'd recommend it.
>V
>Higher than I and III
Crazy take right here.
Why am I one of the few that loves 3?
I don't know. 3 is my favorite as well. But, I also think the whole series is above average to great.
I love 3 but it's not better than 1, 2, or 5.
5 has too many flaws for me. It's too long, cheaply made, and too many random encounters. If I remember correctly it also had long loads.
3 or 2 > 1 > 5 > 4 for me
For me, 3 was absolutely RAPED by the early PS2 visuals
how's character recruitment?
in the suikoden games I always felt like I was screwed without a guide
I don't think it's too bad. There's already a recruitment guide though.
I remember playing 5 and an hour in the gameplay still hadn't really started
I'm assuming it gets better from there?
5 has a very long intro, but once you get past that intro then the game starts to get very good.
It's brutal in Suikoden 5 though. Holy shit.
The rest are pretty much shit you do to recruit people
sounds like it'll be more fun to go guideless then. I don't like looking shit up
How long will it take for Ganker to start being moronic about this character despite their being characters like this since the first Suikoden
he cute
The landscape is completely different now
Otokonoko is a fine troope.
What makes it irritating is that homosexuals on reddit/twitter immediately think that otokonoko is automatically gay or a boy that wants to be a girl.
>automatically gay
The famously very heterosexual leaning femboys. Uh-huh.
All I'm saying is that they do not automatically means they're a homosexuals.
where the frick are the I and II remasters konami
I have to catch a bream to recruit that fisher, any specific site to get it? And what is with random NPCs telling me I'm not at their level?
there's a secret spot by the seaside cavern
i had to clear out spot 3 times before i found it though and they respawn every 10 minutes
I didn't expect a webm as a response. Ty anon.
Devs stated the game takes 40-50 hours to beat without side content.
that's just bullshit unless you're a journo
going by the "slash in half" metric accounting for less-than-pidgeon-brained journalists, 20-25
that's being generous though, a looooot of work has to go into giving RPGs length
>ost is just weak
shit taste detected
name a memorable track besides the main ost that plays during the trailer and during "victory" moments in the game
Some overworld themes, battle theme, the song played during the duel.
Admittedly, not all tracks are good like
said. But the ost is very well arranged and creates a right atmosphere.
>Nowa hits like a gorilla even with his 1sp skill
Shame he doesn't have a charge
ENG script is awful, so will pirate eventually
Seems decent so far but I hate the new trend of having 3d environments with 2d character models that everybody is doing now.
What was so wrong with doing full 3d like Suikoden 5? Is it just because characters are hard to get right in 3d?
Can't believe they wasted their time with the dubbing.
So what even carries over if you got a Rising save
See
it's a shame miki is still prob being a mom/career job and didn't come back to do the music.
>get to the mines
>music so dull my eyelids gets heavy
>nod off as I run through and move minecarts for the 10th time
Coming from something recent like Unicorn overlord over to this and man the differences in quality and RPG feel is monumental.
meaning?
Length is fine. Suikoden I and II aren't super long games. You can beat I in like 16 hours.
And 2 becomes a 20-25 affair if you try to do Clive's quest
I think it's conciseness is a virtue of 1. It's why I play it every year, but all the others I play more rarely.
I hit the wrong grimoire 8 times in a row.
>Kerrin
I'll consider buying this on a sale if there's a fix for the calitard translation.
Why on earth would you want to?
https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/review/66949/eiyuden-chronicle-hundred-heroes-switch-review
>Waahhh, we should have left that behind in the 90's
Games were better in the 90's and I'm tired of pretending they weren't. Opinion invalidated.
>switch review
Don’t care
>why is this jrpg a jrpg?
>why doesn't this run well on switch!?
So does the game have a fast forward for battles or anything for skipping scenes? An hour in, and im getting alil annoyed of getting stopped every few steps with a cutscene. Having a cutscene where everyone just has to congratulate me for solving a kids shapes door puzzle in the ruins was just mind numbing.
Is there something to do in Werne village? I just got thru the 6 month time skip and can freely run around. Everyone in town talks about some bandits in town, but i cant find anyone special looking.
There is one character there after you recruit Mellore.
>Go back to the castle to heal
>Game randomly switches the story to a completely different party
Uh, what? Is this a throwback to Suikoden too?
