Play with some goal in mind, like completing the pokedex or getting all the frontier symbols.
This is absolutely the best advice one could offer. Discovering a new goal to work towards while playing the games might inspire a new vigour for the mainline series.
>completing the Pokedex (or as close to complete as one can get given the circumstances of some games)
>obtaining all the Gold Frontier Symbols in the Emerald or the Platinum/HGSS Battle Frontiers
>raising some of your favourite Pokemon to be as strong as can be so they can be transferred to the next game that garners your interest
>finishing one of the games in a totally different way (monotypes, no items, Set style, nuzlocke, no evolutions, etcetera)
Personally, I felt a renewed sense of excitement for Pokemon after making a goal out of obtaining all the Legendary Pokemon and related subgroups that I can. If they were natively obtained within one of my own games, then that is even better.
forget muttnova and the nugen slop that came after it
You gotta leave.
Seriously.
Stop playing the games, stop watching videos, stop jerking off to pokegirls, and get the hell off this board. Stop thinking about it.
And then, when you’re ready, you can come back. And you can find all the things you loved about it and feel them again.
There’s no set point in time for that “come back” to happen, so don’t go counting days or anything, but it has to be a long time, long enough that you truly break away.
You can do it.
Agree with this - Pokemon had been an afterthought for me for years, picked it up again recently and the magic is back
>Here's what you're going to do: You're gonna download Go--You don't have to constantly play but check it out when you go out. Next, you'll play through a Gen 7 game. I doubt you've replayed those that much so it will be like a new experience--You'll listen to some Pokemon related tunes while you play. It can either be soundtracks from other games or one of the anime openings/intro. You're going to watch a funny Nuzlocke compilation while you play. Last of all you'll stop browsing /vp/.

I actually started playing the TCG online, and thats what did it.
its a very different game than the base set shit i played with as a kid now, but I still find it fun and enjoyable. The card art is very nice, and its just an entirely different ecosystem of pokemon to enjoy.
dont play the bad games
Play Infinite Fusion
Replay the old games, and play some fangames
Pretend gen 6 doesn't exist. That's what I do
It's over anon, let it go
Do challenge runs. It’s fun. I’m working on beating Ruby with only a Zigzagoon named Shimapan
You tell me
Play Gen 1 and Gen 2 only
you are not a real pokemon fan of you didnt buy every single pokemon game
it doesnt matter if you played them or not
>Fact
What did OP mean by that?
Play battle stadium singles, it's really fun
Get the frick outta here
Romhacks. Especially the Fakemon Romhacks. It gives you the sense of exploration and thrill of finding and collecting Pokemons you have never seen before. Just like in childhood
play random battles on pokemon showdown
pokemon for me is now more of a side interest. it's not something i'm obsessed with anymore, it's something i play every once in a while, and that's okay because i have interests aside from pokemon. i'm never gonna play a new game ever again and i'm okay with that. i'll keep replaying the games i already have if i need to scratch the pokemon itcha again.
You don’t.
Play the games again but this time, use only Pokemon that you never used or even considered using before.
You don't want to. If you have passionate disdain for the series going down hill or what the series could be, it won't make you happy.
I have two projects that keep me engaged. The first is a living dex with all forms, including gender differences. The second is one box dedicated to my favorite all-time bros, who I ribbon master to the furthest possible extent. I have accepted that some of them will be sitting out each generation, and I'm fine with it now. I've never had so much fun with the franchise, especially when a new game or DLC comes out and I can watch my collection grow, and see my all-time bros in new environments and situations.
>Go back and play old games
>Gen to RSE and realize these games are boring, repetitive, and fricking pedantic
These games suck. Just play the one you like and pretend your a brain damaged child again.
I only liked playing Gen 3
