How do publishers deal with the possibility of one single overly-obsessed autist with infinite available time in their hands being out there single handedly working on a title that may make all other games in the genre irrelevant forever by being better, bigger, cheaper, timeless, available anywhere and 100% open for community modding free of charge?
You know it's already come out that Ape was a total shithead who used other developers to help make the game and then refused to give them credit, right?
You know we don't really care
Cancel culture made me doubt any allegations of the kind
Chances are, it's made up be jealous people trying to bring someone down so they have a chance at the spotlight
>story is supposed to be about just small business beating unjust large business
>instead it’s a coin flip between small town butthole who takes your shit vs big city butthole who at least credits you
>turns out the game’s development was closer to the actual story
Pottery
When's you game coming out?

He's not adding FOOKING PRONOUNS Doreen.
>not a fetish
It really shows how shit AAA companies are, they can easily ripoff successful indie games but they do not. They make more COD and FIFA shit instead.
They don't care. It's small fishes for publishers and not even worth thinking about.
Like whatever couple millions that guy made in 10 years, big publishers make in a day or sometimes couple hours
You're dumb
If the market is taken by some nobody making peanuts, it means those big publishers cannot breach the market and make billions
Stardew succeeded because the series it based itself on has been phoning it in for years. They left the money on the table and Ape picked it up.
>They left the money on the table
Harvest Moon could've never reached the same heights as Stardew because of its anime artstyle.
If SDV is the best the genre has to offer from now on we might as well just call it dead.
It is dead
Name a single good farming sim after SDV
Please, I want one
Sun Haven is in my opinion better than SDV. I played it recently and it just improves on everything.
It is dead, aside from SDV.
Let's be real, too. Stardew only succeeded because it was published by Chucklefish. It was basically riding off the coattails of Starbound since people assumed Stardew was made by the same people because of similar game titles.
I bought Stardew back in 2016 just because it looked like a comfy fun game which I am glad I was right about. Had nothing to do with Chucklefish or Starbound. I still don't even know about the drama of Ape leaving Chucklefish was about either.
more like cuckbound
that piece of shit came and went like a fart in the wind, i can't believe someone is still shilling it
>Stardew
>riding off the coattails of Starbound
lmao you might have a point if starbound wasn't a giant frickup
Isnt that true for all genres?
Does t stop them from makinf milluon clones
Normal devs do it by using their resources to make better games than can be made in a basement. Not sure why both Marvelous and the gays Natsume ran to didn't consider it tbqh.
They deal with them by knowing these talented indie devs are insanely fricking rare. Who can you even bring up besides concerned ape and toby fox?
Concerned ape basically just made a good harvest moon clone which was a popular series that hasn't had a good game in forever since the series shit itself.
Toby fox basically road the wave of homestuck after it shit itself.
They both capitalized on a specific niche that had a huge following that was neglected because the people behind it fricked it up.
I can't really think of another big series that shoulders an entire niche and is also shitting itself where this could happen again in, maybe the sims, but I think all the morons who play the sims are content with how it currently is and I think something like the sims is a lot harder to make then Stardew or Undertale.
Notch, btfoing the entire industry.
Toby doesn't have shit on Notch or Ape, his fanbase is just a very loud cult.
It doesn't have to be a solo dev, indies in general are starting to eat AAA's lunch. It's easier than ever to make a game and to make it look good with all the tools and assets out there. There are so many games now, tons of them more than good enough, that they're not only selling better than slop like ubisoft's, but making a mockery of it.
What's there to deal with?
A 2D farming sim is not competition for AAA developers no matter how good it is
When a a one man indie team puts out GTA 6 or something they'll start caring but I don't think that's gonna happen...
So why can't we have a AAA farming sim?
Because most people are not interested in growing digital potatoes.
30 million plus players would suggest otherwise.
AAA must be the most generic, safest slop imaginable, no risks allowed. Can't flush all that money down the drain by creative or different, no they have to flush it all down the drain being boring and soulless.
