How do we fix the leagues of votann?

It is time to admit that the leagues of votann are a huge failure, their miniatures do not sell and their lore and aesthetics are very boring
How do we reverse this situation?

Deleting them would be a start.

      >Trannies and gentlemen, we brought back the Squats. Now we're squatting them again. Don't forget to pre-order the new named Primaris Lieutenant.

But they didn't bring them back. The O.G. Squats were scruffy biker/miners on the fringes of Imperium society not Space Marines Mk2.

Releasing a single book for a start would be good. They got released and immediately forgotten. Got to have 10 more marinewank befoore that.

      Non-shit miniatures to start.

Unironically, this, but it's GW so it'll never happen.

Have them actively move against the imperium, not ally, but fight, like the tau

Have the ancestor core actively mislead and manipulate the Votan, basically have them "act" like they are failing but its part of their plan to have the Votan act like flesh slaves

Give them a "frontier faction " rough , rugged and grimmer faction, kinda like farsight enclaves, Votan who are striking out to new frontiers, their equipment is ramshackled and mismatched but still works, they work with aliens and forge allies that are looked down by other Votan

Too clean, which is sort of Tau's problem too.

I'd have said push hard on the space mining theme, with a healthy dose of the aesthetic found in a lot of the Necromunda models; brutal industrial, but perhaps in better shape than the Imperium in general.

Pic related, I think these guys were on right track. They feel like something converted to war from an industrial tool, but *professionally* bodged together by actual engineers and mechanics.

Unfortunately this starts to tread on the toes of Genestealer Cults.

Frick off midgets, laser cutters belong to the sons of the Four Arm Emperor

Agreed, they are way too clean and not nearly grimdark enough to fit the setting. A more corporate bend would help, with the general population feeding a greedy machine that oppresses them by taking advantage of their adherence to tradition. Also just ditch the whole AI masters thing entirely, they need fleshed out leaders and heroes to be lore interesting. The Tau I'm okay with being clean because there tech is actually fresh and new and helps with their image of being a young race in an old galaxy.

Serious and sincere question: has GW ever admitted a mistake, ever?

Yes, when they allowed chuds to be involved in the hobby

But they did, they just gave it to GSCs instead because that faction actually has soul.

Actually add them into the setting, they just dropped the models and rules without giving them any current motive or goal beyond resources, how did the splitting of the galaxy affect them? Did they enounter one of Vashtorr's arks of omen? Have they or the Imperium sent any envoys or diplomats to establish relations? A single book could fix all of this by properly introducing them to the setting, hell you can easily win the community over by giving them a maugan ra/malus caedo type character, just drop some lore about an einhyr or whatever they're called single handedly defeating a chaos lord and his termie guards or a minor hive node and wait for people to make the doomguy memes

they could try to explain their biggest riddle. Why the Emperor didn't say anything about them

        >mutated humans
        >xeno aligned or at least friendly terms
        >better or at least equal tech to pure humans
Pretty much everything his crusade stood for would fall apart, it'd show humanity's tech wasn't the be all end all, that AI wasn't evil, that xenos didn't need to be exterminated, that mutants weren't too be exterminated

thats a terrible theory because the Imperium wouldn't care and would have just crusaded them.

almost the entirety of the main production window would have been during covid, i do wonder how much that has to do with how sparse their content is? like they had a bunch of stuff originally planned that they had to either scrap or push back when they had to send everybody home for a year and a half

Retcon to them always being there
Ancestor cores act quite erratic, sometimes it’s stroke of genius that outplay opponents like Orion’s arm Archai would and other times it’s insanity
Divide it into subfactions. Frontier forces more reminiscent of original squats, militia like ones with converted mining equipment and elite vanguard with nasapunk aesthetic

Would be as easy to say they were isolationist but the splitting of the galaxy forced them to go full Sea People during the Collapse of the Bronze Age. They are "dwarfs" after all and the Sickness of the Dragon should be present in their culture to the point that mine stripping a whole world (like an industrialized Exterminatus) is not even questioned.

    1. finish releasing models for their army.
    2. actually write lore for them so they can be part of the setting
    3. lean harder into the aesthetics. they're like a mix of 60s retrofuturist stuff with the big round helmets and moonrover looking vehicles, and blue collar workers in space. crank that shit up, every model should have the same "wow frick yeah" reaction as the dwarves on bikes with big coats and revolvers

Actual Dwarfs, but in Space would be better
Or some deranged DAOT remnant/Men of Iron, but without midget marines would be cooler too.
I don't like how they merged them into one. It doesn't feel consistent. Their DAOT robots and that one dwarf mage seem to be the only units people actually like about them. Separately they could be cool

      https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/age-of-wonders-planetfall-dev-diary-21-the-dvar-faction-indepth.1132179/
These guys look cool as far as space dwarfs goes. Their armor uses cables to imitate beards, which is a gimmick I saw few times already, and it always look cool in space fantasy. Their aesthetics are reminiscent of mining and industrialism. Their armors aren't smooth and clean. They look great.

They may not be selling, but they are being played. And SOMEONE is making money off them, just not gw's abhorrent prices. Got 3 regular people playing them here and soon me, and none of us paid gw pricing.
