Sonic Speed Simulator, which is the officially licensed Sonic The Hedgehog game on Roblox, has had this heavy theme surrounding the "Fake Metal" copies of Sonic characters from Sonic Heroes' multiplayer mode and the various Android Shadows from Shadow The Hedgehog's competitive multiplayer where they all act and behave like Mephiles. Half of Shadow's backstory is just some shit fans made up and then later became accepted as fact for some reason, OR, it's based on lore from a Japanese only SA2 game guide that is literally never referenced anywhere by the games themselves, or by any member of Sonic Team. That stupid fricking guide drives me nuts, because there's so very little information documented about it, and yet because the word "Official" is slapped onto it, Sonic fans accept that it's all 100% canon without question. We don't even know if Maekawa even wrote for the damn thing either. People just assume he did, I guess. All we know is that it was published by Famitsu. (Or Enterbrain, depending on where you look.) No one, in the 21 years since the fanbase has been made aware of it, has bothered to track down or figure out who wrote this guide, or at the very least "The Truth About 50 Years Ago." All we have are fan translations that are taken as the word of God. This is absolutely mind-boggling to me, because of how severely autistic the Sonic fanbase is, you would THINK that they would have come up with something more concrete, but... nope. Apparently everyone is content to believe it for whatever reason. I guess it just makes for a too big "uhm well ackshually..." loregay "flex" to really scrutinize the source too closely. Most of the ten Shadow endings aren't canon and are fan theories for funsies only. Especially endings where Shadow believes he's just an android and the real Shadow died in SA2. Only one or two of the endings lead to the Last Chapter/final canon ending. Half of Shadow The Hedgehog's entire design was around the player choosing how to play as him and who he is.
I like how they went through the game and removed every mention of "Hell" except for the Shadow Android ending where he tells Egmman he's being sent to Hell, and one very specific rare cutscene you only experience in like four of the 260+ pathways where the GUN Commander states he's going to send Shadow back to Hell.
Ecen the opening CGI has Shadow mouthing his original, "Now what the Hell was that all about?" line before it was re-taken.
We have Fake Metal Shadow, Shadow Androids, Shadow Clones/Copies (which are just more detailed Shadow Androids), Mephiles taking Shadow's form, and they all have this fricking smug air to them in recent officially licensed media.
