Battalion 1944 and it failed.
In fact people were butthurt that it played like COD2 instead of realistic shooters, when it was always advertised as COD2 inspired game made by COD2 fans.
Was that the game that had all those customization options but not for Germany? And was overtly frightened of Nazi Imagery in their own game? Or am I thinking of someone else?
Plenty of indie devs have tried this and each time the game just died. It's just nostalgia at this stage it's like how everyone was on the trend of wanting WW1 games the idea of having them is better than actually playing them as when devs did them they soon became dead as shit and everyone reverted back to modern warfare.
Single player is expensive. It's what eats the most budget on Call of Duty, even when they stopped doing wacky stunt casting like Kit Harrington or Kevin Spacey(lmao).

It's played out. You can only rehash the battle of Normandy so many times
only ww2 games that had a mild cultural uptic was the sniper elite series
playing through 3 for the first time now, first game i tried
man the fov is bad, but there's a neat aa budget stealth/shooter game underneath just the mortal kombat x-ray hedshotzzz it seems mostly marketed at
kinda wanted to play 2 but heard it was kinda bad compared to 3 and 4
i just fricking hate deserts tbh, so boring
hopefully italy SOUL in 4 will be better
2 is extremely linear and railroaded and a lot of environments feel really barebones with little detail.
Also something I noticed when replaying the game, but when playing 3-5, I thought that Karl making those comments when doing some action like searching enemies was pointless, but after replaying SE2, which didn't have those, yeah, those few repeated lines actually make the game feel more alive.
i think sniper elite strikes a good balance between "open world elements" that are still just semi linear levels that let you finish shit in different ways or a different order
it gives you the feeling of freedom and lets you aproach things how you want to without the boons of a soulless repetitive ubisoft game where everything needs to be watered down to be consisntely actually openworld
WW2 is not mechanically interesting enough for the modern FPS market, that's why even fricking Vanguard had to basically invent a shitload of weapon attachments just to have some mechanical parity with MW19 and Cold War.
Even Battlefield 1 couldn't ultimately replicate WW1 warfare where almost everyone used a rifle and using a machine gun was a deliberative process. Everyone was still running around like spastics with fully automatic weaponry.
That's why Treyarch will never go older than the 60s, make sure the heroes can always be using an M16 or something similar.
And also because making a game set in Korea where you're just gonna be blasting away at Chinese hordes like it's Serious Sam is gonna get COD Mobile banned in China.
>And also because making a game set in Korea where you're just gonna be blasting away at Chinese hordes like it's Serious Sam is gonna get COD Mobile banned in China.
kek
That is basically what almost all major engagements were once the Chinese got involved. Shit like Yultong or Imjin River where a few hundred men fight off tens of thousands of Chinese soldiers. Think about how fricking insane that scale of warfare is, and what that could look like in a video game.
It’s weird. The Korean War is completely ignored by video games and there are only a handful of grognard wargames about it too.
I guess that’s what happens when you’re sandwiched between WW2 and Vietnam.
>tfw they gave WWII and vanguard over to dogshit sledgehammer instead of treyarch >treyarch keeps having to rush out black ops games mostly thanks to sledgehammer fricking up with their titles
we're never gonna get a good WWII cawadoody game ever again
to this
thats xcom
>thanks xcom
ftfy
to this!
Because you can't mix those
I can name two games that did.
realism is gay and awful. there is no reason that every game shouldn't be anime style
The eternal coomer has spoken

CUTE.
Is that an MP7?
Looks like it.
Looks cool.
Racist cope and seethe thread
I hope someone out there banks on old COD and Medal of Honor nostalgia and makes a throwback ww2 fps game one day
Battalion 1944 and it failed.

Didn't they lean into e-sports and gay balance or something? I though it was more like CoD4 pro mod than CoD2 but it's been awhile.
Was that the game that had all those customization options but not for Germany? And was overtly frightened of Nazi Imagery in their own game? Or am I thinking of someone else?
theyve done that like 6 times already

The saving private ryan MoH hero shit is cringe Hollywood tripe.
There needs to actually be a ww2 game with WaWs dark dreary brutal atmosphere
There have been dozens but all of them are MP only trash

2 is great although I only ever played the remaster so I have no idea how the original was

CoD campaigns have always been linear. But it’s just simple fun to shoot nazis and japs
old game designs, can’t compare that to latest trend
We're talking about Sniper Elite

Not WW2 in general but rather only the american side.
Many would love to play a WW2 FPS where you play the germans
>Many

mig alley exists
>MiG Alley
That’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time
All I've ever really wanted from Call of Duty in recent years is just World at War with more factions.
