Do you view them digitally? On a computer, or do you use a phone, or tablet? Do you buy reproduction manuals? Do you just use original manuals? I tend to read them on my phone.

With my eyes.
That's not what the Hover Boots do
They do let you walk over water. I think you mean that's not all that the hover boots do.
SOVL
Manuals are a crutch.
Oh, you know what the red circle power up with a P in the middle does? Might as well have used a fricking Game Genie, you God damn casual scum.
games from the 80's and early 90's the manual usually had the game's story and information the developers wanted you to know. Ignoring the manual negatively affects your gaming experience.

I recently recommended my friend play Grandia on PS1 because I really enjoyed it. I had an actual physical copy with a manual which I read cover to cover before I started, and my friend just bought the remaster and didn't read anything.
It wasn't until he finished the game that he complained to me about hating the overworld areas and how he disliked wandering around so much to progress. If he had read the manual, he would have learned that the compass on the corner of the screen literally points to the exits of every area you're in, and you can toggle between exits by pressing the shoulder buttons. Completely fricked him up.
Did they take out the savepoint hints in the remaster?
No idea. But I forgot how the save point hints worked. Unless the game showed them to you automatically, I doubt my friend would have taken the time to read them.
I have a small collection of them from over the years. 8 and 16-bit Nintendo manuals have a lot of SOVL as they say. If there's something I actually need to look up though, I'll just find the scans online.
I've read a deepL translated transcript of the Snatcher manual while looking at the pdf scan on the other window. It's weird too, if you read it left to right it's a setup guide but if you read it like a japanese book it's about the characters and the world.
I like physical
I need to find a better way of reading them. I just haven't found a way of viewing them digitally that is satisfying. I was wanting to read through some of those gamest mooks recently but it just feels miserable reading on my PC at my desk. Like I'm at work.
Have you tried a tablet? I've only ever had an e-ink kindle, and a cellphone to read manuals on, both options sucked because you had to zoom in. I won't frick with real manuals because I'm a germaphobe, I'd go for reproduction manuals too, but they can be a bit pricey sometimes. Hell I'd honestly just print them to scale on regular paper.
Where do you find them digitally? I’m interested
I found the manual for the games I cared to on gog-games (it's too bad site's down now), since any game there comes with the manual, googling might yield results too.
I use archive.org
you can find a lot of them just googling the name of the game + manual
I like physical but if I don't have the manual I'll just check it on my phone or PC and make notes in my notebook for useful info.
I'm from the tutorial era
I'm a tendie so I'm eating good with manuals since nintendo put a lot of them up for the mini consoles, and also byuu homie has a bunch up
It's my dream to release a game with a mocked up instruction booklet manual
I read the actual manuals while taking a shit.
