How does the Unity merger affect small/indie devs? Should new projects avoid using Unity going forward?

In reality it doesn't mean shit to the average small developer unless you primarily make mobile games that rely on advertising to make money, in which case maybe it'll benefit you. It does mean you will see more shitposting though
what do you mean by 'shitposting' in this context?
When you browse Ganker and see people treating engines like the console wars, a lot of hyperbole
Applovin, which is a mobile analytics company, offered them more money so I have no clue what’s going to happen. If they merge with ironsource then the company and engine are dead along with everyone who used it. The company is a notorious happy merchant glowie company that injects malware into people’s devices. If they take applovin’s bid, it’ll be the de facto mobile game dev engine without the glowie shit
Op, did they reject applovin? I see no news of that
they already refused the applovin offer

I stand corrected, they went with the happy merchants. FRICKING JOHN RIGATONI

Assuming you don’t know, just ask Ganker
>Assuming you don’t know, just ask Ganker
I know what the word "malicious" means even if Ganker apparently doesn't. IronSource is a shitty company in a shitty business but their business model is not a criminal one.
So you’re telling me unity taking a military defense contract is totally coincidental, right? Even ebin doesn’t do that with unreal
They didn't get a military contract either
no that sounds about right for malicious companies nowadays, the word is aptly used to describe unity now
Yeah all that malware business is in the past, nothing to worry about.
>ask Ganker
>the "people" who cite someone's neocities blog that considers a website engaging in http protocols to deliver data to be "malware"
ok moron
IronSource is not affiliated with malicious adware. It's affiliated with adware which is annoying enough. Don't need to make up bullshit about them installing viruses that steal your cc details or something.
All adware is malicious.
Probably won't affect devs directly. Remember redshell though? Enough people complained about it that a bunch of game developers decided that it was in their best interest to remove it from their games. Will people view the entire unity engine the same way now? Will using Unity as an engine hurt sales? Or will people just not give a frick?
>play unity game
>100% GPU usage in menu
To be fair, a lot of the time the things Unity is blamed for isn't actually Unity's fault. There's a lot of very poorly written plugins for Unity people use. Remember Yandere Sim having absolutely terrible performance and people assuming it's because of his terrible "if else" spaghetti code? Well, someone actually decompiled the game once to see what was the cause of the performance issues. Turns out it wasn't that freak's code for the most part. It was the off the shelf HUD plugin he was using. It was incredibly unoptimized. The supposedly professionally made UI middleware of all things was killing the game's performance.
That's because lazy devs use shitty plug-ins made by literal who's that don't know what they're doing
The main problem is that it shows the direction Unity is going and has been going for for years, if you are just getting started change to unreal or wait for godot 4 as it shows promise.
>wait for godot 4
they picked that name for engine on purpose 100%
I honestly don't give a frick, I don't play indie trash.
>I only play mass produced goyslop made by 10,000 employee studios
