>Shadow the Hedgehog is peak earnestkino.
A lot of the stupid/juvenile shit included in Shadow's game was done mainly because Sega was trying to attract kids who were more interested in games like GTA than platformers. The whole thing is more a result of misdirected trend-chasing than it is earnest.
>It's too stupid in its attempts to be edgy though
That's why I consider it more juvenile than edgy.
There's nothing misdirected about Shadow the Hedgehog except that they kept the speed the same as Sonic Heroes.
>There's nothing misdirected about Shadow the Hedgehog
Yeah, except giving a cartoon hedgehog realistic guns and making him swear constantly to appeal to tweens.
And adding vehicles that control like shit.
And basing most of the game around the monotonous, gimmicky Chaotix missions from Heroes.
And forcing the player to replay the game ten times to get ten different endings so they can unlock the final bit which doesn't even properly connect to any of the previously unlocked endings.
Plus the controls shared from Heroes, as you said.
Sorry I misremembered. The japanese version has more swearing because swearing isn't as big a deal over there. But in Death Chamber there's "You're damn right knuckles"
Man I miss earnestkino in my vidya.
I feel like the only series from around that era that hasn't budged and continues to play the dumbest shit completely straight is Kingdom Hearts. That and Strangers of Paradise have been a breath of fresh air in this current landscape.
0% ironic. Zoomers don't understand that early 2000s edginess was completely sincere. We really thought Shadow was cool as frick back then. And I still do.
You know it just occurred to me, when would that photo have been taken? It doesn't make sense for it to have been after SA2 or Heros?
They don't look like they're that close in the photo either. Could've just been a ceremonial thing to thank them for saving the planet from metal in heroes.
It was just detached nips apeing "cool" American media tropes of the time. Like Sonic has always been about since the beginning.
Shadow just went extra far because they got some letters from American kids telling them to give Sonic a gun, Shadow was a vehicle to make things more serious and cool and American.
>Old bad, new good! >Every cultural milestone and aesthetic for zoomers was taken from the 80's to the early 2000's like VHS lines and shitty dial up internet >OMG, you are so cringe for liking something, you have to be ironic about it >Is that an empty room with mascot horror icon #521? Empty rooms genuinely makes me scared and yet I love this ARG!
Showing genuine interest in something that's not socially approved makes you vulnerable to be mocked. Zoomers are largely too chicken shit to stand up for what they like and don't like, so they fall into the faceless mob that tells them what to say and think.
is this game worth replaying? i remember playing this game on the gamecube as a zoomer and want to replay it but i can't tell if its because of nostalgia or because it was actually a good game.
>is this game worth replaying?
For a single run, maybe. A lot of the levels are outright dogshit and even the better levels can drag due to the need to have 3 fricking mission types in almost every mission. And you'll be replaying it a frickton if you want to unlock true ending.
If you just want a nostalgia trip look up the Shadow lost music trips by Magna-Fi, Sins of a Divine Mother, etc and listen to those. They're the best thing to come out of the game and it's tragic Sonic Team fell through in getting so many into the final game.
I played through it a year or two ago on Dreamcast and it is really fun overall if you like shonen type stories and early 2000s rap, jazz and metal, the gameplay compared to the first adventure leaves a little to be desired, eggman/tails and knuckles/rouges gameplay is not very fun but is still easy to get through for the most part.
I almost had a stroke thinking you were talking about a ShtH Dreamcast port, but then I realized you're just moronic.
He's not talking about SA2. >shooter and treasure hunter stages aren't very fun
You're a turbo-casual
People tend to forget but a lot of the cringe of Shadow was in the total replacement of the voice cast with the Sonic X voice cast, which was extremely cartoony and cheap. So not only did you have this pretty substantial tone shift (although not as extreme as people tend to think, SA2 had some real action movie vibes) but you also have saturday morning cartoon character actors delivering all the lines and it just does not mesh at fricking all.
It's hard to tell because it's a post-9/11 Sonic game where you get to side with terrorists and kill the president and nuke the white house, which is so insane it surely could not be earnest, but it looks so much as if it is
They should make a modern squeakquel where Shadow is anti-woke imo and play it completely straight
Not a single bit. Shadow the Hedgehog and especially SA2 are peak earnestkino.

It's too stupid in its attempts to be edgy though, like more of a George Lucas-tier attempt at being edgy than anything.

Have you seen the Chao gun and the 7ft long gatling gun? They weren't going for realism.
>constant swearing
Does "damn" bother you? They say "shit" in SA2.
When do they say shit?
Sorry I misremembered. The japanese version has more swearing because swearing isn't as big a deal over there. But in Death Chamber there's "You're damn right knuckles"
>Yeah, except giving a cartoon hedgehog realistic guns and making him swear constantly
yeah that's cool as frick lol
You're a DAMN chaos emerald.
Why did they put such emphasis on the word "fourth"?
The english localization for this game was notoriously bad.
There's nothing misdirected about Shadow the Hedgehog except that they kept the speed the same as Sonic Heroes.

zoomers were born in 97, we were all kids for this. you moron. or bot, both maybe.
>I WAS 4 YEARS OLD WHEN THIS GAME CAME OUT IT WAS TOTALLY FOR MY GENERATION REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
have a nice day zoomer. It was for 10~13 year olds.
This picture doesn't even make sense. There's no point at which it could have even occurred from the events of SA2 to StH.
>There's no point at which it could have even occurred from the events of SA2 to StH.
After the events of Sonic Heroes and before Shadow The Hedgehog?
They still weren't on good terms then.
When the president of the world asks you for a photograph, your ass is gonna show up and look happy damnit.
They don't look like they're that close in the photo either. Could've just been a ceremonial thing to thank them for saving the planet from metal in heroes.
Not at all
Which is what makes it so memorable
You know it just occurred to me, when would that photo have been taken? It doesn't make sense for it to have been after SA2 or Heros?

What the frick is wrong with zoomers?
Mindbroken by 21st century propaganda

It's alright. Replaying Westopolis gets old really fast, but I had fun getting to pick which missions to do and I missed the fully edgy era of sonic.

It's like a solid 6/10 game. It's not complete shit but it's not a good game either.
>is this game worth replaying?

play the Reloaded mod which seems make playing the game feel less of a chre

The sonic adventure games are sincere to the bone
