I must be moronic. I can have games where I rape up to the boss but I always get overwhelmed there. Even when I read up and use proper strats I just can't do it.

if you're metagayging it shouldn't be too hard anon, though sometimes RNG does completely screw you. You're making sure to pause the game constantly to adjust targeting and crew positions, right?
Yeah. I think I just get so overwhelmed during the Boss phase 2 that I take too much damage to survive phase 3. Somehow I just can't manage it even with hacking, stealth, shields, etc.
I got the Stealth, Engi, and Zoltan, but I haven't been able to get the ship starting quests in years and I refuse to use the other methods to unlock any
you know the trick with the flagship is to teleport guys into the rocket room and take it out ASAP right? I don't think i've ever won a game without using a teleporter

i would play on hard if the ai actually targetted my weapons, shields and piloting like a player would instead of getting bullshit bonii like 5 bubble shields by sector 6
They literally do, AI on hard actually has targeting priorities which makes ships like the stealth B completely fricking obnoxious because the AI knows it needs only 1 hit on your weapons; it's how the depowering trick even works by lowering your ship oxygen to about 35% and turning it off the AI will target oxygen to try and get a crew kill.
Play on the normal and then play on hard and you'll notice the hits you do take tend to be less moronic.
But I've played on hard and the AI still hit unimportant segments and empty rooms.
All while having 3 bubble shields at sector 2
If you want an example to try then do the pacifist achievement on hard with something like the Stealth A. I remember I sold my weapons and the AI never targeted by weapons, only piloting and stealth. I once saw the percentages of how the AI picks targets but I don't remember where. It's all flat on normal but it does change on hard along with the bullshit upgrades they get. The targeting is one of the reasons I play on hard since it actually does feel like they're trying sometimes.
I can consistently take it out without teleporters, that's not an issue
you're probably just not thinking ahead enough. you need to spend the entire game thinking about destroying the flagship. every upgrade and purchase you make should be based on how it will help you kill the flagship. the only enemy you should be thinking about is the flagship. getting to sector 8 is easy. killing the flagship is hard.

same except i've never unlocked another ship except maybe if you get one after you beat the game or something with a very simple requirement like that.
i've looked up how to do it too, but it always seems too elaborate and the starting ship just seems too perfect.

And why is engi B such shit?
because since you start with one crew, you can't even risk any of the random events early on, unless you adopt a posture of live and letdie.
How do I use Stealth B on hard? People complain about ships like Stealth C or Fed C or Slug B but the real flaws come out on hard. Stealth B is fricking unplayable even if you frick around with the AI's targeting priorities by powering/depowering stuff.
Stealth B is the ship most affected by RNG. Accept that you will die over and over again and the run will only truly start once you get shields online

I always maximize dmg/power ratio for weapons, Burst II and flaks are insta buy every time.
My correct opinion about ftl ships.
i'd rank fed A and B and mantis A and B as top tier, and move all the rock ones down a tier because i hate missiles

Kestrel A is definitely A-tier since with the Lazor mk2 and Artemis you're basically halfway through to a good flagship-beating loadout. Same thing with the Zoltan cruisers for how much scrap in chip damage that shield saves you.
Come to think of it most of the ships in FTL are quite good except for a couple joke cruisers.

I have 77 hours in this game, and I still don't even have all the ships unlocked yet.
And I exclusively play on easy.

the reason you fail is because you make poor decisions. if you make good decisions you have margins, and do not lose to common setbacks that occur during all runs.

to be honest you *can* get btfo'd by shop rng not giving you any workable weapons, it's uncommon but it happens
and i say that as a guy that reliably wins with any ship on normal without restarting (frick hard)
and i reliably win on hard and say that you shitters need to stop blaming bad luck when it's just your own poor planning
>poor decisions even though you have almost every system maxxed out and have a ton of extra scrap and even get a scrap recovery arm in sector one but all the stores you visit have no good augmentations and all the weapons are either breach bombs, emp, or stun bombs so you face the flagship with nothing but a halberd beam and hacking which can't do enough damage in stage 3

I fricking lost again with this shit I can fricking win with the stealth C and kestrel B and every other piece of garbage ship but can't fricking win with mantis a on hard. I am going kill the developers.
