Coalossal is basically one step below Mega Kangaskhan in terms of "that strong Pokemon introduced in the beginning of a gen and continues to be a threat the entire gen."
Mosy gen 8 gmax are what the pokemon should look like/their evo line should look like. >orbeetle >centiscorch >duraludon
Should always have looked like their gmax. >alcremie >sandaconda
Should have had their gmaxes as evos. >copperajah >drednaw
These forms suck and should not exist. >toxicitry >flapple/appletun
Make no sense and lose themes from their base forms. >hatterne >grimmsnarl
Literally the same as their base forms already. >corvinight
Basically a mega pokemon but big.
I would Orbeetle and Duraludon way less if their Gmaxes were the base designs. Their Gmaxes only work on a conceptual level because they're so big, a normal sized "literal building" Duraludon would look ridiculous
Well not exactly the gmax, more "the base design should have elements of the gmax" rather than "let's purposely save design elements/themes for the gmax" like with centiscorch and sandaconda being heater coils and a sand tornado. Once they lose their gmaxes in gen 9 they lose those themes.
Centiskorch's heater coil themeing comes across perfectly fine in the base design and Sandaconda being a tornado is something the Gmax explicitly introduced, in its base form it's just a sand shotgun.

Fair enough on centiscorch, I looked at it again and its gmax doesn't change as much as I remembered. Sandaconda should have a sand tornado evo though, imo forms build on existing themes while evos introduce new ones. >mega sableye is just sableye with a big gem shield
Versus >sandaconda becomes a sand tornado instead of a sand shotgun
Hence why I think corviknight is basically a mega pokemon.

I can't see why you'd think that given there are plenty of evos that don't build upon their prevos' theming in any significant way, and there are some alternate forms that do add another layer or theme to the base design. Poliwrath isn't a thematic progression of Poliwhirl in the slightest, whereas Mega Diancie introduces a "magical girl" theming to the base design, complete with a gem sword it can form. This isn't a hard and fast rule.

To be fair: >tadpole with legs >tadpole with legs and arms >tadpole with legs and huge arms
>gem princess >magical gem princess
But yeah obviously not every line follows this and nowadays they tend to stray away from any patterns (pure flying types, dual types with normal)
That’s the problem with the Gen 8 gimmick, Gmax in particular. So many of the Galar lines will now feel incomplete, despite some of them already being 3 stage lines.
It’s why Megas feel more successful in my eyes; they feel like an addition to a line, not an essential part of it. Gmax Duraludon seems like the whole reason Duraludon exists at all, so Turner could design a Pokémon based on that British building. Same with Gmax Sandaconda — the Gmax makes the line feel completely fleshed out.
He won't.
The reason GF mostly refrained from giving megas to gen 6 mons is because they didn't want to design them with megas in mind and have them feel incomplete without the mega.
Diancie, the only gen 6 mon with a mega, does seem a bit incomplete without it, so I think their worries were justified.
But now that GF has established that they can just remove Pokemon from the game entirely, there's no problem making Pokemon that feel incomplete without their gimmick. They can just be dexited from the games where the gimmick isn't available.
She didn't survive WITH it.

Nope
He's grown on me a lot. Even if he's shit he'll at least keep my eggs warm.
His Gmax should've just been what it looks like normally.
Yeah, his gmax is a massive improvement. Still think his base form is neat too.

How embarrassing
Dynamax/Mega Evos are unified. Yes this means Charizard has 3 forms but that's just normal at this point
>didn't get the chop
idek why it happened but probably will benefit from the new gimmick
