How is this? Is it overblown, or actually good like Pikmin? A controller FPS sounds... awful.

It's not an FPS, it's a metroidvania in first person. Combat is very basic and plays nothing like a first person shooter.
It's not a metroidvania, it's just a adventure game
an
Oh, how disappointing. I'm a combat first sorta guy.
As someone who hates FPS and likes Metroid Prime, I can confirm. It's mostly movement focused but combat movement is awkward. Combat is not a strong point of Prime. Normal combat is a slog and bosses were disappointing at best. But for the standard Metroid platforming exploration, it's a good showing heavy in atmospheric charm. Prime 3 had a bit better combat with a handful of good bosses, but that was Wii and that comes with its own set of problems.
Prime is less of an FPS and more of an exploration/adventure game. It certainly wasn't designed to need M+KB precision.
you can lock on to targets
You can play it like the orignal where you aim only when stopped, otherwise its lock on, dual stick like most shooters or gyro
Like people have said. Prime is "technically" an FPS in the sense that it's played in first person and you shoot stuff, but it's an exploration game first, and the game as a Lock-on so you're mainly focussed on avoiding attacks
You have to kind of understand what they're going for, which isn't really an FPS, but an exploratory adventure game. The actual combat is kind of whatever.
Personally, I think the part where they take the training wheels off and have you go on a big scavenger hunt across the entire map is the best part, but if it's not your genre, you might just hate that shit.
You can play with motion controls. It's fantastic.
what would her favourite metroidvania be?
She wouldn't care for a hobby so pointless as videogames
Are you sure

Didn't you hear? Samus is a proud and strong trans-woman.
This is just her pre-transition. Chud.
It released not long after Metroid did and plays up the "Samus's true form is a secret" aspect. There's the smallest hint at the very end on who she is.
It‘s good but the backtracking gets really fricking moronic at some points with the devs intentionally leading you to a dead end just to inflate play time and spongy enemies. It‘s not the perfect game people pretend it is
I just realized the same when i finished the remaster, the game flow is kinda ass, with no fast travel or any fast mean of transport getting the chozo artifacts is just a chore, worse than the triforce quest on WW
You go through the lava area about 20 times just to backtrack. I was getting sick of the ost there at some point
I actually agree, first time playing it. I loved the game, it was an incredible experience, never seen an atmosphere like that. But holy shit, the back tracking is insane, and the final boss is just annoying rather than difficult. The game should be 5 hours shorter.
Play it yourself, moron.
It’s System Shock but worse in every way.
The game plays shittier than the OG per emu with speed up options, because they didn't add anything to ease the badly aged parts of the game and it sold pretty terrible partly because it is way overpriced for what it is and parly cuz japs hated samus face in this one.
Playing the remaster I can't help but feel that the game is not art at all. The whole solo exploration thing is just... mid...
Samus games really need to grow up.
Running around alone on some unknown planet looking for upgrades to explore some more and fighting bosses just ain't it. Who the heck is the target audience for that?
I hope for 4 they drop this whole lonely exploring of an alien planet thing and finally give us the mature game Samus deserves with an expansive open world, fully fleshed out and diverse characters and cutscenes that tug at the heart strings and really make you think.
That would be so dope.
have a nice day
metroid frickyear
I'm so sick of every game having standardised dual stick control schemes that I ended up loving how this game plays with the classic controls. It's "objectiely" worse but it feels like its own thing rather than a fps gameplay template with a Metroid coat of paint.
Is good
