I don't think they play games at all. They seem to spend most of their time shitposting on here about them.

Never understood why people spend so much time posting about games they don't like and trying to shazam them rather than just making threads and posting in ones about games they do like and actually play.

Personaly I just stick to threads about games I like, interested in, or currently playing.

so why didn't EA bot Immortals of Whateverthefrick to a bajillion players? Why doesn't Activision bot COD to a bajillion players? Why didn't Microsoft bot Starfield to a bajillion players?

NV is an awful game and the choices are far less meaningful in that game than bg3. Of course it's a bethesda schizo whining, you people have the worst taste in everything. And for the record, you can join the absolute, siding with goblins is joining the absolute, siding with moonrise against the harpers is joining the absolute. This carries tons of unique benefits. If you actually do an evil playthrough you'll find out the dead three are betraying each other, which positions you to take over and BECOME the Absolute, which is fitting because you are working with Jergal unwittingly and killing off his former replacements.

                >siding with moonrise against the harpers is joining the absolute
yeah my favorite part was when I found out that every single playthrough does this. EVERY. SINGLE. the good, the evil, every character is railroaded into infiltrating the moonrise tower. despite the game trying to make it seem like you are undertaking this big moral quandary over joining the absolute to infliltrate them for the greater good but NOPE lol, jaheira will just tell you to go and infiltrate them for them.

my 2nd favorite thing about this is when you go thru grymforge and save the absolute drow, since the game presents the situation as your golden ticket to joining the absolute but it is NEVER brought up again, only later on some other NPC remarks how they killed the guy off screen. what is the fricking point of presenting all these situations when they ultimately lead to the same conclusion? the whole game is full of this kind of dumb shit where your choices don't matter.

In this post Anon discovers that story driven, non-sandbox games, no matter how complex, have limitations. Unfortunately, he is not smart enough to realize that most properly developed people know about those limitations and place their expectations within them. Instead, Anon expect total, true life-like freedom and is angry at the game for not meeting his impossible criteria.

yeah because when you call a supposed "lightning in a bottle" RPG, it's out of question to expect the game to have better RPG mechanics than fricking "HURR KILL EVERYONE, ME EVIL" which ironically, even if you murder everyone, you're still not left out of getting the savior of baldur's gate ending where people worship your statue

This shit was the worst. First they present you that game has choices and consequences in with grove conflict in act 1, then it all goes out in the window and consequences are no more after that.

yeah act1 was great, which is what i think is at the core of the player numbers. the game got a big bump of popularity to start off, and act1 being good which creates so much noise it will just permanently drown out any complaints about late act2 and basically the entire act3 which means the game has a constant stream of players checking it out due to good word of mouth from people who are saying good things while going through the early part of the campaign. it feels like a very elden ring-ish effect, where nobody was really talking about the slog the game becomes after you get to about 1/2 or 2/3 way thru

are you actually arguing that NV's RPG mechanics in a vacuum don't rape teh shit out of BG3's? bg3 RPG elements are basically larian borrowing notes from witcher3's design book where the point of choices is to just show you an "IDEA" of what you can do, but choosing anything is irrelevnat since you are just railroaded to the single choice the game ACTUALLY gives you.

NV is trash and nothing you do matters lol, every single quest is extremely minor branching options which lead to 1 of 2 slightly different rewards which have no long term outcomes, whereas bg3 has permanent party member loss and NPCs that can be carried through and continually reappear throughout every act, which significantly effect the plot. NV is oblivion with an Obsidiot wrapper of being some morally grey nitwit MC that goes around a theme park of poorly written highly political factions playing God, and, whats more, only the NCR and Legion matter and of those two only one is even 10% finished, and there's a point in the story that completely invalidates all your previous actions anyways. (Which does NOT happen in bg3 because you will be limited by the characters and items you chose to bring with you in the end based upon your choices) God NV is such an awful fricking game, jesus.

I knew letting bethestards nest here was a mistake.

You're calling people that have been here since before you were born zoomers. If BG3 shows people how mentally ill and moronic NV gays are then I love it even more. Looks like RPGs are finally healing.

BG3 shilling should be entirely in its own category of "moronic shit zoomers do" like drinking fricking nail polish on tiktok for likes.

Shill the game because it's a meme game and you love recency bias, but i will fricking rape you if you try to shill it as a good RPG. The game is a FRICKING INSULT to good RPGs like NV.

You aren't raping anybody you keep repeat the same dogshit argument like a moron , ignoring every choice in bg3 and only mentioning that the end of the act is the same. You are just stupid, the perfect example is when you complained that only shadowheart can kill nightsong when that a good thing.

                >ignoring every choice in bg3 and only mentioning that the end of the act is the same
i mentioned the druid kill/save choice, which btw has no gravitas towards the rest of the game, also RPGs are not graded by the amount of their shitty binary choices, but by how interactable the world is. i can side with 2 major factions in NV, and 2 minor factions, all of which have their unique quest paths. I CAN SIDE WITH ONLY THE DEFAULT PLAYER PATH that EVERYONE goes through who plays the game in BG3. it's utter trash.

wait, am i forgetting the goblins? you can side with the goblins. that solves everythin- nvm it's just another illusionary choice like being able to side with gortesh

Why are you obsessed with factions?? Bg3 is not a sandbox Black person , are you too stupid to get it? Faction is a thing do you consider Starfield a masterful rpg too because of the faction?

        >Industry experts estimate that a new game will only be completed by 10 to 20 percent of its players
People often say this but I feel like that number is kinda skewed by people getting a game for $10 or so in a humble bundle years after release and deciding it's not for them after a few hours. Alternatively, games like BG where it's so long that even people who like it get burnt out near the end. Skimming through my games the only ones that have below 20% completion are precisely older niche and/or long games that have gone on sale for incredibly cheap. Even a lot of those have more than 20%.

They manage to hit the target demographic of women that want a western erotic game that panders to them with hot dudes. If you look at social media it's all women talking about BG3 right now. On Ganker it's mostly just women that's talking about who's wiener is better Astarion or Halsin.

There's really no secret behind it, it's just women finding a game they enjoy.

      This is true.

Dragon Age was arguably the biggest western RPG franchise and most of it's diehard fans were women (just peruse videos about it most of them were made by women), but DA is dead as frick and has been for a long time. BG3 is where those people are hanging out now. Nowhere else to go.

I loved the game on my first playthrough, but I think my enthusiasm for it was poisoned by being able to see all the seams from where content was pulled out and the gaps awkwardly stitched back together. Act 3 feels like half of what it was supposed to be because of all the hanging threads that were supposed to lead into the Upper City. Act 2 is railroaded as frick and feels barebones comparex to the other 2 acts. Act 1 is incredible though and the variety of encounters, locales, plot threads, and reactivity really sets up expectations for the rest of the game that it just can't meet.

It looks like the modding community is piling on the content though and Larian is patching the game constantly, so I'm excited to come back to the game in a couple years and see how it has changed.

Every single companion storyline just resolves by going to the boss lair without any other leadup in act 3. For most of them you're pretty much railroaded into a fight as well.

D&D is incredibly popular right now because the current generation of adults in the 18-30 bracket are ridiculously lonely and it gives them a chance to hang out with other people and also escape their miserable lives.
It's also filled with special snowflake drama kids, queer attention seekers, and perverts. BG3 leans into all three of these.

I have a theory, and it seems to bear out:

Normies play video games in two ways. Either they play for 5 minutes a day max, or they basically play in brain-off mode. The former is kind of obvious, but the latter is the interesting one. People will take an hour to do a 5-minute fight, they'll wander around without ever really figuring out what to do or where to go, maybe pressing buttons but usually not really accomplishing anything. Maybe in a 5-hour play session they'll move a few feet or they'll be stuck on one fight because it takes them 10 tries. They'll tab away from the game to talk on Discord or text or something, they'll leave and come back, etc. etc.

Look, I damn near 100% completed BG3, I did literally every sidequest, dungeon, and fight in the game. And it took me maybe a couple of days. But for a lot of people, somehow just getting what you'd call an "Any %" run, where they just barely scrape through the end of the game and somehow missed tons of quests, content, and playtime, that takes them months.

How, I have no fricking clue. But it is what it is.

        >Even if you're a neet don't you play anything else?
At the same time? Not generally, I usually focus on just the game that is currently in front of me. Sometimes I'll play Path of Exile also, but I haven't really been able to invest as much in that the last few leagues.

Also, I don't take any time off work or anything just to play games, I'm literally a full time illustrator and somehow I can finish a game in a few days without much difficulty.

          >At the same time?
I mean, I don't stop playing comp games like CS or drop an arcadey game I'm grinding like doom wads or something to just consume a 100+ hour long rpg in a few days. I'd rather take my time to think about things.

Honestly, I believe you. I picked up the game after a friend told me to get it as it's the next "big thing" I beat the game before him while retaining more knowledge on the lore than him. Normies are literally braindead moronic when it comes to retaining anything about a game, majority of them play it because it's the popular thing to do.

I don't think BG3 is the best thing ever but I can't hate Larian. They've been around for decades making their niche Eurojank and sticking to their guns the whole time. Bioware sold out to EA and tried to chase after the mainstream audience and now they're circling the drain, shitters like Obsidian and the other 20 spinoffs of the old WRPG dev studios keep making these defeatist "anyone remember baldurs gate???" borderline indie games that seem to be more concerned with looking like an Infinity Engine game from 1999 than anything else, meanwhile some autistic Yuros just kept working on their shitty discount DnD series for 20 years and making it bigger and better until they somehow achieved this unprecedented and frankly unbelievably level of success.

Original Sin 2 was good enough that I don't think any Divinity gays are going to feel cheated, and more than anything I'm glad they took the chance to make something as big as BG3. A sequel to the eternal pinnacle of the genre, and a golden chance to revive the genre at an unprecedented scale during the whole DnD resurgence we've been going through over these past several years.

I wonder how Todd feels right now being mogged by a full-fledged rpg after dumbing down all his games non-stop since morrowind for absolute bottom of the barrel morons. And now noone wants to play his later masterpiece which literally has no mechanics whatseoever even compared to fallout4, a shooter with less rpg elements than bordeerlands (at least borderlands had skill trees and wpn stats).
