you need a hacked 3DS and hshop to download it if you never did before. good news is that jailbreaking a 3DS is incredibly simple as long as you have one.
the absolute worst case scenario is it gets shutdown when the rest of the 3ds online does in April, but I suspect they keep it around for quite awhile after that. I mean you have to pay for Home to use Bank anyway, so in a sense you are paying to keep it alive already

So do I. 2DS can still be hacked. It is functionally the exact same thing without the 3d toggle. 3DS and 2ds might as well be interchangeable.
It's so fricking sad this online only transfer bullshit essentially cut access to mons from gen 3 to gen 7 which were interoperable, hell it also cuts access to transferring up to and in between 6 and 7, with this shit only gen 3, 4 and 5 will be interoperable. Frick gamefreak and Nintendo

I did the following recently, and now I'm using my mons from XY in Sword.

just download the hshop app right onto the 3ds, it downloads and installs everything exactly like you downloaded it from the eshop.
I also want to mention to anyone who cares, it is possible to get poke transporter and dream radar to work with gen 5 roms

you need those patches installed correctly. since gen 4 roms work fine to transfer into gen 5 you can legitimately transfer all the way back from gen 4 roms/repros into home. unfortunately there is no way to trade from a gen 3 rom/repro into gen 4, it just simply doesnt work

Bank doesn't even work as storage for me anymore. It only offers to send everything I deposit to Home escrow, pending migration, and I can't use it to trade mons between any 3DS games.

Glad I don't give nintendo/pokemon company money anymore. They treat fans as after thought. They could easily keep that bank alive if they wanted. They could also port all the previous games to eshop if they really wanted too, use save files to move pokemon to home.

Is it possible they may allow players to keep an offline version of Bank? On one hand they have the money to find a way to do that, but on the other they can try to coerce people to buy Home or lose Pokemon in Bank forever
I think Pokémon bank will be dropped at some point. They would have made it a final purchase thing to buy the service forever you also need to connect to the internet to use either bank or poke transport and that’s what they’re going to cut off the, online connection at some point
They'll almost definitely announce a Bank shutdown once mainline Pokemon settles onto the next platform after Switch, because inevitably, HOME will be replaced with yet another storage app in order to get even more sub money from forgetful idiots who're subbed to both HOME and the new service.
I know it wouldn't be a 100% solution, but I feel like they could probably build in a transfer for 3DS pokemon games into a Switch pokemon game, like how they built in Pal Park and whatever the Gen 5 system was called

Switch 2 better have GameCube virtual console so we can play the Orre games again. Bruh I sold my Wii and GameCube for a WiiU because they said it would have GameCube VC and it never did.
Not even for a trillion bucks would they rerelease Orre to any capacity, GF and TPC both despise the Orre games because they proved another company could create an original Pokemon campaign using the mainline battle system, and worse yet, did so using double battles as the primary format on two separate occasions.
