I was using a shield with counters to break her poise and Blaspemous Blade's art to knock her on her ass which I guess is pretty cheesy.
Maybe 50 attempts because I was using a shield on my first run and that heals her so I had to change strategies.
Not sure how many attempts, but I spent 8 hours on her before I won.

I stopped playing the game in the lead up to her zone, I got really tired of getting sniped from the fog.
i wanna say around 2 hours so maybe 40-50 attempts of rolling my face spamming jump attacks until she died

about 10 and it was due to her ebin special anime attack, once I learned to dodge that shit I destroyed her with my counter damage strength pickaxe build
2 or 3 i have too low patience to play fair with this b***h after sawing she can heal if you block her attacks even if you took 0 damage and the meme attack twice in a row

The only complaints about malenia lifestealing must be coming from shield users trying to just tank her attacks lol since for normal people the fact theyre getting hit is the #1 issue, not the fact that she regains tiny amount of health

You can use a shield just fine. Especially useful with Malenia if you have a light weapon because her faster counterattack can be blocked quickly and punished. She will never recover as much damage as you inflict to her

The lifestealing literally doesn't matter if you break her posture with jump attacks and shield counters.
Shields will always be the patrician choice over rolling around like a moron, wasting time and resources whenever she hits you anyway because of her moronic long reach.

On my first attempt I died to Waterfowl Dance. On my second attempt I knew what to expect and how to avoid it, and hence did not die. It's not rocket science.

After like 20+ attempts I just realized I wasn't having fun, but I still wanted whatever the reward could've been, so I summoned another player and immediately beat her.
Epic boss battles with crazy dodge timing and and long combos are my least favorite part of any Souls game, so while the presentation was really cool, I just didn't really care by that point in the game.

Unironically 3. I just summoned my mimic bro, max poise setup and spammed jump attacks with the Ancestral horn hammer on her. Used bloodhound step to avoid Waterfowl.

She can't have her posture broken during some specific animations that can trigger randomly when you attack her
If you would've triggered a posture break but it's blocked by one of these animations, the posture bar fricking resets
I know it can be played around and shouldn't stop anybody who knows her moveset from winning but it's just such blatant bullshit that it unironically made me rage every time I saw it

Several enemies in Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring do this
You can't, for example, stagger Radahn during its meter attack, or stagger Friede during her dodge animation
It's also not "Sekiro-like" because stance break was introduced by Dark Souls 3
It didn't feel consistent enough in ds3 for me to care, I only ever noticed it if I hit a big enemy's head with a heavy weapon
And whether any other examples of this happening earlier exist or not doesn't change the fact that I don't find it fun to be robbed of the only reward for aggressive play by a dice roll

Malenia has zero poise, you aren't losing any dps
You want Malenia to be constantly staggered? No other developer can make bosses with no poise exactly because they can't design enemies this well. This makes Malenia or Black Knives unique from every bigger boss
i honestly didnt even have idea that she resets her posture when she does an attack that has hyper armor, still doesn't sound that bad since she's made of glass
well whatever, sounds like a skill issue, just don't get hit maybe? all of her attacks are incredibly well telegraphed, even the funny attack but that one needs unconventional ways in order to be dealt with
Many bosses use this in phase transition or certain attacks
Malenia uses that a lot more because she has little poise
This is also why her dodge triggers on hit and cancel stuns, to avoid webm related

it was not fun! she exhausted all my desire to play the game and i had to take a long break after reaching the last area. a lot of the bosses in this game aren't very fun honestly. it's like From cared more about le epic difficulty more than a fun experience (for example putting elden beast right after radagon or the excessive amount of delayed attacks)

I still can't beat her and I have beat every other FromSoft boss.

I don't remember. Not a whole lot because my first character was steroids overleveled when I got there
Zero, my playthrough was done completely blind. Somehow ended with the Ranni ending and didn't even know she was a thing.
So disappointed with the game I never did a second playthrough.
Definitely several dozen attempts, and in the end I resorted to respeccing and cheesing her with Rivers of Blood and mimic tear.
For comparison I blind beat 2/3 of DS3 bosses on my first attempt including Freide and Gael. No idea what people who claim that Malenia isn't by far the hardest From boss are smoking.
