If it makes you feel any better, Facebook VR apparently died, there's still a chance Sony might port their PSVR games to PC, if they continue porting their regular games to PC, and Apple's headset is an enterprise AR device that nobody is going to bother making games for. But I agree, walled gardens are the last fricking thing VR needs. At least when Facebook had the original Oculus Rift, it was trivial to play the exclusive games on an non-Oculus headset, since they were still built for PCVR.
I did and I feel very lucky that I had the chance to play it. The section at the very end where you're zapping combine with Vortigaunt powers is awesome.

>Facebook VR apparently died
lol nope
dude i meant how there's facebook VR and playstation VR and now apple VR
it's like complaining mario 64 isnt on playstation or pc, so you'll never play them

exactly how do you expect STANDALONE Q2 games to run on other hardware? are they supposed to provide an emulator, so you can play your quest2's cities VR on valve index? it makes no sense
stick with PCVR if you want maximum compatibility and a vr library that will still work on future systems
>are they supposed to provide an emulator, so you can play your quest2's cities VR on valve index?
That would be nice actually for games that eventually become unplayable on newer quest VR headsets the way facebook shut down echo arena. That way stuff gets preserved well into the future, cause the idea that I'll get to play the 2005 version of Resident Evil 4 longer than the RE4 VR for quest that was made seems fricking stupider than the censorship they did to that game.
teleport is an easy way to get around that.
games like pavlov make me want to puke after a little while, my gpu might have been playing it at less than 90fps though.
>Get zero motion sickness playing intensive shooters with sliding movement like Boneworks and Pavlov. >Absolutely feel like dogshit when I play games from a wienerpit, especially aerial combat games
I wanna beat Project Wingman in VR but I feel like I'm gonna hurl the moment I roll.
I mostly play mods for this game nowadays like Gunman Contracts and The Undertow. I got the Gnome Vault of My Own achievement which funnily enough in this game makes the game easier to play not harder, since you can block headcrabs with chompski.
I've played much better VR games, I think people overrate Alyx because people are just happy to see a VR game with good graphics and another half life game. I hope any future VR endeavours are less scared of making the player sick, I enjoy HL2 and it's sequels with their VR mods much more.
I've been too lazy to get my VR set up all back up and deal with trying to run it on linux.
What I did play was fun, but I don't really have room since I got a bigger bed.
I mean if you want to get into it, the Deck getting "finished" is more or less proof of what they need to get done with the Deckard.
Personally I'd settle for them just enabling inside out tracking on the index so I could use it without having base stations set up. (It can do that, by the way)
honestly I'd be fine if they had a slightly bigger/cheaper/stronger Steam Deck that you wore on your back like a bag, and it connected to your headset by cable, enabling PCVR in a standalone form
I don't need it all in the front of the headset
the current deck isn't strong enough to do high resolution for comfortable VR
but the plan was it was a stepping stone to deckard
I wouldn't want a Steam Deck hanging off my face though, I'd rather have it tethered in a pouch or something
What I personally want that I feel steamVR on linux is missing at least on arch btw is motion smoothing, proton support for overlay apps like https://barshiftgames.itch.io/portable-emulator and linux itself fixing framepacing issues on multiple monitor setups with differing refresh rates (which can probably be remedied with their work on gamescope idk but gamescope feels like magic to me and one of the main reasons I'm even considering a switch to linux cause frick playing older games with resolution issues and frick win11).
I don't even know where to report that these are things I want fixed, or if valve will even listen.
It was one of the best video game experiences ive ever had. The jeff chapter alone really cemented for me. When you compare it to the half life 2 vr mod its not even close.
>The jeff chapter alone really cemented for me
annoying chapter, but I liked the ideas they were going for, L4D3 when?
>VR is not a fad
But it is. Tell me, how many VR games of AAA quality have been released after HLA?
they will come when hardware improves which means lower cost to entry, which means more players, which means it'll be worthwhile to have an AAA budget because it wont just sell 50 000 copies this time
>they will come
Sounds like a big cope to me. It's been 3,5 years since HLA release and not a single big developer even pretended to think of a VR exclusive game. Because nobody cares really.
Sure, people played HLA and it was alright but that's about it.
It's not even called "risky move" to make VR exclusive, nobody will bother doing so, besides some indie junk.
VR has lost all possible interest because it's not as fun as was promised, "proper" VR experience requires you to have a full room for that, the helmets are not really comfortable to wear and cause motion sickness. And last but not least, VR kits aren't that expensive, but people won't bother wasting their money when there aren't many good games to play. Simple.
> the helmets are not really comfortable to wear and cause motion sickness.
new headsets are much better, but supply chains were fricked for 3 years
>It's been 3,5 years since HLA release and not a single big developer even pretended to think of a VR exclusive game. Because nobody cares really.
china stopped making stuff, so launching new hardware was a nightmare
no new hardware = no new games
expecting the avg person to go buy a high end PC and a headset just to play PCVR is why VR has only been for rich early adopters which limits how many copies of a game will sell
only in the past year have hardware supply chains unfricked themselves, which is why switch 2, PS5 pro, quest3, deckard are all coming soon
I did, was legit amazing but I’ve had basically no reason to pick up my headset since except porn occasionally. Wasted platform, especially bleak now with exclusives being pushed in yet another platform.
I haven't upgraded my pc 5 years, I'm certainly not buying a index to play Alyx on low settings. I did watch a play through and it looks great can't wait for the next valve mainline single player game lol
>I did watch a play through and it looks great can't wait for the next valve mainline single player game lol
pretty sure HL3 is going to be VR and carry on from HL2 Ep2
they're probably polishing everything and it'll be a release game for deckard
I did, but it took a long time; I could only play in short sessions due to the discomfort of the headset itself (extra weight, chafing from straps); additionally, the nuisance of trying to get it to recognize the motion controllers was often too much to want to play. Moving with a shitty d-pad also sucked.
VR would be better if you could use mouse and keyboard, but most devs insist on their gimmicky motion-control trash, so the technology won't take off.
vr having platform exclusives turns me off from buying any of them
>vr having platform exclusives turns me off from buying any of them
thats like complaining that mario 64 isn't on the super nintendo
alyx without VR would be moronic
just as mario 64 with a dpad on the playstation or snes would be moronic
dude i meant how there's facebook VR and playstation VR and now apple VR

I couldn't do it bros...
you get used to it

I don't. What I want is for standalone VR to frick right off.
I like having no cable, no PC and being able to use it in any room without lighthouse sensors
>it's like complaining mario 64 isnt on playstation or pc, so you'll never play them
Mario 64 has a native PC port.
>Mario 64 has a native PC port.
for 27 years it didn't
Gee, not a very compelling argument to buy a VR now.
>consoles have exclusives
>Ganker: I'm just not gonna play games then, I don't like it!
no, the problem is that for every one VR game there are 30 non VR games, despite VR rigs and games costing as much as consoles.
teleport is an easy way to get around that.

Deckard with steamVR on linux improvements any day now
...any day now.
See? Deckard!
No wait, that's just some datamined code.
I mean if you want to get into it, the Deck getting "finished" is more or less proof of what they need to get done with the Deckard.

the current deck isn't strong enough to do high resolution for comfortable VR

VR wienerpit simulators = GOAT.

Gabe himself was pretty adamant at that college visit last year that VR will not feature any mainline valve IPs as to not fragment the fanbase.
get a used vive or something.
a 5 year old pc has more than enough juice to play alyx and you won't care that it's on low once you get in.
he's held out this long, he should just wait for deckard
It was such a fricking slog I quit and played Boneworks instead. Haven't even touched the headset since.
I did, but it took a long time; I could only play in short sessions due to the discomfort of the headset itself (extra weight, chafing from straps); additionally, the nuisance of trying to get it to recognize the motion controllers was often too much to want to play.
