how many of you "Mother fans" have actually played Earthbound? Let alone emulated Mother 3 lmao

I have finished Earthbound like 7-8 times. It's just that good.
it really is tho whenever I boot it up I can't stop til I finish that area its still so engrossing all these years later.
Lucky. I played Earthbound when I was a pre-teen and looked up a guide so every nook and cranny/secret has no effect on me.
yeah I played 'em back in like 2010 or something when
I only played Undertale but it's way better and less clunky anyway
Played through EB several times and emulated M3 about two and a half times.
Also a pretty good game. I just wish Toby could actually write a decent romance that isn't gay shit.
>the gay shit romances in undertale and delta rune
>decent
LMAO
That's literally what he said, illiterate-kun.
typical Ganker user 7th grade reading comprehension
>I just wish Toby could actually write a decent romance that isn't gay shit
this implies toby can write a decent romance that IS gay shit
>*gives you a wet willy*
Let's learn to agree to disagree.
fat frick
Go watch some more bald man videos
the romances are just out of place, they are shit but its more than just the premise of them, both of them are absolutely hamfisted
My favorite is the first one. Yes, the English prototype called "Earth Bound".
It did have some pretty good moments, It has a great atmosphere as well.
That turned out to not be a prototype at all. It was the final build.
I've played and completed all three of the games.
I have played & beat the first and third game. I played the english prototype for the first game with no "enhancement" patches, and I enjoyed it more than the others in the franchise. I tried to play the second game, but I couldn't get into it. It just seemed like a step down in comparison to the first game with its open world and its legendary soundtrack.
I don't understand why this is the patrician position, but considering the gays that obsessively love Mother 2, apparently it is.
Shouldn't you be saying let alone emulated mother. Everyone has play 2&3 no one has played 1.
How can one consider themself a fan if they haven't played any of the games?
Never mind completion.
>Mother 1
That game is an insufferable experience with the amount of grinding you have to do on top of the ceaseless rapid fire encounters that drain your resources.
Dropped it on Magicant because enough was enough.
The later entries got it right by having overworld sprite-based enemies that you could AVOID should you've chosen to.
It's fricking hilarious and hypocritical seeing the people who've undoubtedly criticized games for artificial roadblocks or hindrances,
but the moment Mother 1 gets shit on for its buttfricking mechanics slowing story progression down to a crawl,
the turbo autists are right there to defend it.
No one praises M1 for its encounter design, wtf are you talking about. Pretty much everyone acknowledges that it's as grindy as Dragon Quest. The Easy Ring was added for players like you who lack the patience to get through it.
>Acknowledge the game plays like butt
>deride the guy for not wanting to deal with assplay
Easy Ring is designed by homosexuals, for homosexuals. Don't play a turn-based RPG if you don't want battles, double digiter.
Mother 1 does need grinding, it's a NES RPG, but not that much, and as long as you've got enough HP to survive 2 rounds of attacks from the final boss anything beyond that is pointless for the ending. Whole game took me about 10hrs, completely blind. The encounter rate is way, way too high and some of the fights are complete garbage, plus the tiny inventory is a pain.
But I actually loved the combat, because it's the first time I've played a JRPG like this that gave you bullshit ridiculous attacks and let's them work.
Eg. Here's your instant death spell". No it doesn't have a 90% miss rate, or only work on enemies a multiple of level 5, it just hits them and kills them. Same with the ice spell that drops enemies to 1HP. Status effects too, they all work and they're very powerful. But of course, those same abilities can be used against you, so you have to be careful.
Mother 2 toned this down heavily- but it still let status effects be valuable, even against bosses, so I've got some love for that too.
I don't know about that, but i know i am a big fan of your mother, and i played with her countless times.
I played it on the SNES, bought the OG big box with the player's guide and everything.
I don’t really get this meme that they’ve never played the game. It isn’t particularly long nor is it really difficult to play. For shit like persona I understand but none of the mother games are long or hard.
A lot of people will just watch a playthrough and read about a classic game but never actually play it. Often seems to happen because of people who don't want to pirate to play it if it's their only option.
I had earthbound as a kid. I got it for 15 dollars at a department store's going out of business sale. I forget the retailer, but I was so happy because it was one of the first things I was able to buy with my own money as a kid. I thought I did well too. I got the game and the strategy guide.
Wouldn't call myself a fan but I played the whole series.
I played Earthbound, couldn't beat it tho because I got stuck at Deep Darkness
I got stuck at the waterfall.
Why did Earthbound of all games get hit with the “fans never played it” meme?
damage control from p3 remake announcement
newbie
w00t? persona and mother are both definitely up there in "fan" count race.
it had a resurgence in popularity after the success of Undertale, and it became fashionable to (pretend to) like the game which inspired Undertale instead of the watered-down zoomer rehash
That's your moronic headcannon.
thanks for your contribution
nah he’s probably right
He's not "probably" right, he is right.
You can trace it back to the demo in 2013 with people HERE.
that's stupid, people shouldn't pretend to like or not like things because of contrarian shitposters who don't even play games themselves
Because it's an old niche game that became popular/noticed because of Smash, the smash community in turn is not very bright. Notice Persona also has a similar meme. The only way for the west to even experience Mother 3 is to emulate it and the only way to play it in English is to patch it (both pretty easy to do).
However, because it's an old series and hard to obtain, they assume no one just emulates it although toasters can run it. The same people probably flipped their shit over stuff like totk being emulated before it was even released.
Because it's a game filled with posers like Silent Hill 2 and Personagays. 90% of those fanbase haven't played the game and only repeat what their favorite streamers told them. From games are the next in the list, you can see the steam profile and no one finish the game.
>Because it's a game filled with posers
Such as?
Most Earthbound fans have never played the game anon. I don't know why you're so dead set on arguing this isn't the case. It all adds up to that point where it penetrated back into mainstream consciousness thru several smash games and an extremely vocal and autistic community surrounding the third game. Earthbound is the is sublime point of creepy pasta. The ineffiable fulcrum upon which swings the entirety of the legacy of Scrimbly Bimbly. It. All. Returns. To. Here.
It's not even a good game, why deflect from it? What will you preserve?
Because Ness appeared in Super Smash Bros.
EVERYONE played Super Smash Bros., but they didn't have a single clue who "Ness" was.
By the same token, they didn't know who Capt. Falcon was and couldn't wrap their heads around Samus = Metroid.
I feel like it's because
>fans exist of EarthBound
>fans of EarthBound clamor for years upon years for it to get released again
Legitimately it is true, bandwagoners are common in the fandom because of ecelebs, Smash and Undertale causing lots of people to have a passing interest in it which makes them watch a documentary on it/playthrough but never actually play it themselves. Mother 3 has an even larger issue specifically because its slightly harder to play, and many people skip the first mother
I tried playing it again. I think I prefer mother 1 more now.
Probably gonna replay Earthbound soon.
I'm playing Mother 25th anniversary edition atm
how is it
for me it gets better every time
Liking it so far
Played all three and beat them all.
I beat Earthbound over a decade ago, it was alright but definitely showed its age. Mother 3 was much better.
I own a CIB copy. Completed it about 4-5 times. The last time I played it i 100% the game got to level 99 and got all of the rare 1/125 drops.
Anyone that actually likes Mother as a series owned a Wii U.
that's a cultish stretch
Not really. Mother fans are the same kind of people that would buy a Wii U and it was the easiest way to play it legally.
I like the Mother series and never owned a Wii U.
I also never played any of the trilogy legally.
Earthbound is a very solid SNES-era jrpg, filled to the brim with soul and charm
Mother 3 suck. Tryhard, grimdark, bad-plot, POZZED AF, and an unsatisfying story outside of the ending.
Played all 3 when I was 12
Fun games.
I played it in like 1996 when I rented it from Blockbuster, then a bunch of times since then on emulator. Only played Mother 3 once, didn't enjoy it as much. Dungeon Man is the coolest character in fiction.
Only haven't finished M1, have zero interest in doing so
Emulated EarthBound and Mother 3. Worth it.
I have played Earthbound, I got up to Fourside before dropping the game because the inventory management was insanely fricking annoying.
I beat Earthbound on my phone 4 years ago and got to the needle hunt in Mother 3 and put it down for a while meaning to go back to it, but never did. Its been long enough that I should probably start from the beginning on a fresh save, but honestly beginning chunk of Mother 3 is such a drag that I've been putting it off.
Earthbound is really average but it's at least playable and its charm carries it. Lots of half-baked ideas that are useless the moment you have Paula like the bicycle, Jeff takes too much investment to be useful in average playthroughs, Ness is fully capable of carrying the game. Characters basically stop existing after joining the party
Mother 3 improves a lot but characters still stop existing after joining for the most part (Club Titiboo chapter to regain Duster's memory is an exception), has an odd issue where characters become silent protagonists when in the front of the line but canonically they're speaking. The biggest one is moving from Flint to Duster as a playable with the flashback cutscene
I have. And Mother 3.
Earthbound > Mother 3
I played them thanks to chuggaaconroy
I've finished all 3 Mother games multiple times, all 3 are good but EarthBound is the best one. It's a magical game.
I wouldn't call myself a fan but i've finished them both.
Mother 3 was infinitely better. EB was extremely primitive in its gameplay, with only its setting and characters propping it up.
I think I broke something.
Ah yes, Jontron's mode.
I have.
>M1 was a trip to play coming off M2, I thought it was a port of M2, was pleasantly surprised it wasn't
>M2 is one of my favorite games of all time, I played at the right time in my life
>M3 is interesting enough with its own style and system, it wasn't just trying to be M2-3 or Earthbound 2, it was a completely different beast, a great way to conclude the series.
The real questions are: Why the frick did they think they could do Mother 4 and why do these same 'fans' want a fricking remake so badly?
>have actually played Earthbound?
I dropepd it after saving paula.
Thought it wasn't very fun.
>Mother 3
I did finish this one. Not only did i enjoy the sharper writing but also was more enjoyable to actually play. Not to mention, the game did magic with the GBA soundfont, really that game's ost is pretty damn good.
I played up until Paula got kidnapped in Fourside Mall. She had the Franklin badge.
Oh, and quitting at the game over screen gets rid of all your progress.
🙂
I love Mother 1 to death and think 2 is great as well and love to replay both, but for some reason can't get into 3. I've tried a couple times, but I only get so far and just drop it again. Don't really know why, but I just guess it doesn't have the same kind of pull as the others. Maybe it's just too linear for me? I dunno. I'm currently reading through pic related to see if it'll motivate me to give 3 a chance again. Currently enjoying it a lot.
I read through it and mostly liked the first part
Ana is best girl btw.
Yeah, the first book seems like the best so far. The second book with Lucas had its moments, and the third seems like it's gonna be real weird compared to the others,
*Anna
I played them all blind in release order
>pick up EarthBound as an adult
>played through it a few times as a teenager with no problems
>now, head starts to hurt after seeing psi rockin a few times
it's your karmic punishment for posting frogs
>Not putting "Frickin' " as your favorite thing for the meme
can't be a meme if i've never heard of it
I didn't mean an established meme. I just meant that putting a joke answer in gave me a few chuckles (just like putting "gamer cum" as my favorite food in Mother 3)
But anon...
>Not putting "Superman" as your favorite thing because you named the characters Jerry, Elaine, George, and Kramer
I've played all three.
>when the burly men chanting and shouting kicks in
This game is amazing, magical, beautiful, you know that, but BY GOD is it annoying!!!! There is literally no reason for me to not be able to buy multiples of the same item, this is so stupid
i've beat earthbound twice and mother 3 once, haven't gotten around to playing 1 yet though.
I actually finished Earthbound for the first time last year. Pretty fun game.
You say that like it isn't one of THE most emulated games there is.
earthbound is great, ive replayed it multiple times. didnt care for mother 3 that much so i only beat it once
I played through it at least twice. First playthrough was when I was probably 8 or 9 years old. My latest playthrough was on a mini SNES about 4 or 5 years ago.
I named the player (not the playable characters) Hitler resulting in Hitler praying to defeat Gygas and getting a special thank you at the end.
As someone whos played through all the games multiple times, Mother/Earthbound zero is not good. Pacing is really weird and its extremely easy to get lost after the first area and the zoo as well as miss the baby canary.
>Pacing is really weird and its extremely easy to get lost after the first area and the zoo as well as miss the baby canary.
except for the first and last ones i think i got all the notes almost entirely out of order because i roamed aimlessly a lot of the time. Yeah it took a while but I actually really liked that aspect. Also I beat the entire zoo section but the monkey was one of the last notes i got since i didn't know
Since I play alot of rpgs and talk to everyone i enjoyed that aspect too. For the majority of people it sucks to have missed something, while not knowing if you did or not, and having to walk everywhere you've been to maybe find what youre looking for while not knowing what it is.
I had no idea what to do with the sleeping dragon, was really disappointed when I fought him last and he was weak as shit.
Only played Mother 2. Ending made me cry.
>Cognitive Dissonance is finally implementing the odometer, Alinivar dialogue and extra sidequests on v3
Why the FRICK does nobody talk about that game? People stick to fricking Oddity of all things. It's dead, accept that it won't ever come out
It’s furgay shit
>rpg maker 2k3 default battle system garbage
>piss poor fanfiction
Gee, I wonder why no one talks about it?
for people who don’t think this game is deep and artful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TiUmTUSbq0w
This. This is where I wanted to stop playing. I had no idea what was going to happen. The innocence of the game just died , right then and there. It felt like I was playing a creepypasta.
I had to sleep with the lights on for a week.
I'm surprised you managed to get past the Threed sewers thinking it was all innocent.
He is just moronic
Based
Based af I gotta try it one night
Yep, that music is fricking A. I listened to it one night while walking the streets and it was eerie. Not a single sound, no sirens or something in the background, just pure silence.

The game really managed to make the distant past feel, well, distant. It was intensely eerie and lonely feeling.
nice demonophobia soundtrack
i've played and finished earthbound, didnt like it but atleast it isnt those RPGmaker shit games like holy shit it isn't hard to learn gamemaker 2 for a better 2D engine
me. when I was 12, but I lost my mother 3 savefile when I was at a gorilla and I've never tried to replay it
Beat it a couple times as a kid on SNES then a bunch more times later on.
Pretty sure my cousins and I fought Giygas for over a hour the first time around before deciding to try praying. Shit was kino
I rented it back in the day and always kicked myself for not buying it but it was so fricking expensive even long after it came out. I was one of those annoying gays who wouldn't shut up about Earthbound long before starmen.net shit up the internet. I remember telling my friend all about it and how awesome it was but he just didn't get it. I remember seeing the shit in Nintendo Power about Earthbound 64 and was so excited but sad when it didn't come out. By the time Mother 3 came out in Japan I didn't care all that much anymore but I did play it when it was finally translated.
i played all three on this, wonderful little thing
the snes emulator it had butchered 2's music
3 kinda sucked
I beat 3 on emulator and then hardware nearly ten years ago but I only got around to 'beating' Earthbound half a year ago on NSO using rewinds.
When I played 3 on hardware it was without the translation patch, and I don't know Japanese, so I must've memorised the ins and outs of the game and/or had way too much damn time on my hands.
Bought EB when it came out and I play through it once a year or so. Finished a run of it on my phone last week after one of the battle themes got stuck in my head while I was traveling for work. It's a toss up whether EB or FF6 is my comfort game, they remind me of simpler times. I can play through EB from start to finish and feel like it never overstays it's welcome, while 6 sort of drags once you get to the WoR. I love 6, it's what really hooked me on RPGs, but I always feel compelled to teach everyone every magic spell every time and that drags the experience out.
M3 was great once I got over the fact that it wasn't Earthbound 2. I don't replay it as often but I keep the ROM handy for whenever the itch strikes me.
Skipped Mother 1 because old JRPG encounter rates are horrendous, just like Breath of Fire 1 and Persona 1 etc.
Played Earthbound like 4 times at this point.
and Mother 3 I've played twice.
Earthbound was really nice, definitely one of those games I wish I could play for the first time again, like Ghost Trick or TWEWY
I've played all three and Mother 3 is my favorite.
I don't think the story is anything to write home about in any of the three games, but 3 has a lot of little touches that I enjoy that barely edges it above Earthbound. I will admit that the cast of Earthbound is far and away the best of the three games though.
Mother 1 has abysmal pacing and isn't really worth playing if you've played Earthbound, as it ends up being almost like a soft reboot.
1 has much better pacing than 2, you’re just a homosexual which is why you put your homosexual and wrong opinion in a black box
You sure showed me with those hot opinions.
Not a matter of opinion especially when one game is plain shorter than the other.
Feel free to kys
>best moments in the series, actually somber and not schmaltzy like 3
>giygas' story
>isn't really worth playing
The fake fan shit started from Smash.
Smash is a poison that corrupts every character and fanbase that it touches.
The real funny thing is is that Earthbound wasn't seen as groundbreaking or anything that special when it released but once Ness showed up in Smash 64 all of a sudden it turned into "ONE OF THE SNES'S MUST PLAY GAMES, BUY MY USED COPY WITH MISSING LABEL FOR 500 DOLLARS". I rented it several times back when it came out and finished it and thought it was a nice quirky little game but never thought it would end up being so worshipped less than 10 years later by the internet.
I played about 2 times
I've played Mother 3 also twice.
and Mother 1 once.
Earthbound should be required playing here
Earthbound
OOT/MM
re4
Super Metroid
if you’ve beaten those games then you can fricken have an opinion
Reminder that if you ever replay Earthbound do it with a censorship removal hack like Maternalbound
https://forum.starmen.net/forum/Community/PKHack/MaternalBound-Redux
>Dad no longer calls you anymore
Unplayable
https://forum.starmen.net/forum/Community/PKHack/WIP-MaternalBound-Uncensoring-Other-junk-hack
There's versions that include just the censorship removal + retranslation if you're that much of a purist.
stinky
>run button
>anti photosensitive hacks added
>no more dad calls
>added teleport locations
>script rewritten based on hearsay from some book
absolutely fricking soulless dogshit. why even make a mod like this?
next time when i play earthbound, I wanna try this hack because pokey is named porky and ness is naked https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/6140/
Finished EB and M3, but not Mother (dipped at the final dungeon)
Only mother 3, 2 hours of earthbound. It gives me anxiety knowing it could scare me for life
My Grandmother got me Earthbound when I was in the first grade. I still play it annually now that I'm in my mid thirties.
I downloaded the English patch from fobby.net the day it was released and beat it that same weekend.
I kept picking up and putting down Mother 1 because the grind was too much, but I finally finished it last year.
There are people who will never play a Mother game simply because they hate the fanbase too much. So be it, but they will be much poorer for it.
Once a year at this point. Last time with the most recent MaternalBound patch, which I'll be doing from now on due to just the overall quality of life and polish.
captcha: KMSG0Y
Does the Starmen.net fancomic hold up? Kind of regret never finishing it back then.
It's still fricking going. Updates like once a year at this rate though. I still like it. Quality's very consistent, probably explains some of the wait.
>36yo
I've completed full playthroughs of Earthbound probably at least half a dozen times. I loved it then, I love it now. I'll play it again sometime in the future (because I own it.)
Bazaar
Battle Against a Machine Opponent
I've emulated Mother 3 once to completion. It was okay, but not nearly the fun experience I had/ve with Earthbound. I won't play it again (or purchase it).
Did you not that's not Ness piloting a Starman? That's a reflection of Ness in the "imposing Starman" 's visor.
>Ganker still mindbroken over Earthbound and copes themselves insane with their silly headcanons that nobody has actually played the game and it's all just "fake fans"
They did the same shit to anyone trying to discuss SMRPG. All because apparently anyone who likes Geno is a fake homosexual.
Played through Mother 2. Haven't finished Mother 1 because Mt. Itoi is bullshit, and Mother 3 is on my backlog (though I got as far as chapter 6.) All very fun. I think Mother 1 is the best atmosphere and emotional-wise. Mother 3 plays the best, and Mother 2 is a nice happy middle.
Anyways here's my favorite track:
https://starmen.net/mother1/music/33%20-%20MOTHER%20-%20Fallin'%20Love.mp3
I wonder if it'll embed.
I played a bit of Mother but got bored, should I just skip to Earthbound?
Earthbound is the worst mother game
it's reddit: the JRPG
no… Reddit the jrpg is Yakuza 7
Clearly you haven't played it
*Edit Thanks for the gold kind stranger
*Edit2 : wholesome big chungus
Earthbound was pretty boring. I set my frame skip on snes9x up a few notches and blew through the game in a day or two.
didn't care to try mother or mother 3
but i played a good nes in N64 back before melee came out
I just played (and completed) all three games for the first time within the last 2 months or so. Ran them on a GBA-sized emulator handheld, very comfy.
>Mother
Was probably great at release time, but it has aged very poorly. Music, enemy design, and overall tone were great, though. The encounter rate and level design make this very difficult to play without liberal use of a fast-forward button. I played this one second.
>Earthbound
Really fun game. I really enjoyed the art direction and world. <spoiler> Ness having his psychic awakening in Magicant was pure kino </spoiler>. I played this one first, and I probably enjoyed it the most out of the three. If you only play one game out of the series, play this one.
>Mother 3 (fan translation)
Best story and music of all three games. The dash mechanic kind of annoys me (I would've preferred a normal run button). Because I was emulating not on original hardware, the rhythm element of combat didn't work very well. I still had a lot of fun with this, and the end was fantastic. I played this one last (just finished it last night).
I don't know if I'd say these are masterpieces, but I thoroughly enjoyed playing through the series. For what it's worth, these are the first JRPGs I've managed to play all the way through in the past couple of years.
i played it, but dont consider myself a "fan". it was a nice game, but like all rpgs insane amount of grind. its a 8 hour game with 12 extra hours of grind and tedious rng shit.
not great not terrible
>but like all rpgs insane amount of grind. its a 8 hour game with 12 extra hours of grind and tedious rng shit.
Were we playing the same game? Unless you're insane enough to go for the sword of kings which, don't lie, we all were or other 1/128 drops, there's no grind at all. If you fight every encounter in your way you'll basically always have enough xp and money. Mother 1 was the grindy one.
mother 3 is great, i liked it much more than earthbound
I've started earthbound numerous times but I don't really like it enough to finish.
I've beaten mother 3 a half dozen times now. I don't know why it clicks with me so much more than the others. I think the story just resonates more. I like how much more polished it feels, I like the active engagement of the timed hits.
I dont usually care about betas and stuff but man I would really like to see what a finished Earthbound 64 would be like, the story sounds amazing
I think realistically it didn't have anymore than that spaceworld demo complete, cause that was a super railroaded combat demo with a few text boxes and some walking in between. There's a reason none of it was in the megaleaks despite SO much other stuff being there. Everything that seems like a holy grail for eb64 ends up being nothing. the blue carts were just M64 shindou/DD edition dev carts to test interconnectivity (admittedly FOR eb64's planned integration with mario artist), but there's never been any real info on it besides press stuff. I don't think it exists.
I'm trying to sell my original copy from my childhood right now.
The quality tanks at Fourside and it never recovers.
Twoson was peak and Paula is CUTE
My cousins introduced it to me during the 90s, showed me that strategy guide with the weird smelling surfaces too it was odd and unique, they showed me the wackiness of the game, Fourside, the naked saturn guys and the end boss, what a wacky ride, despite all, I was NOT a big fan of the game, it's just a quirky rpg.
still one of the best game ever created
i don't think i've beaten 100 games
but it wouldn't even be in my top 1,000
and i love jrpgs, especially snes era.
I wouldn't call myself a mother fan but I have only played 3 which I liked a lot.
kinda regret starting with it tho. for some reason I thought it was a stand-alone game.
why would mother 3 be a stand alone
it's not like the movie Surf II
Name an JRPG series where the sequel isn't a standalone game
Even Chrono Cross is a standalone game
Mother
FFX, FF13.
DQ 4, 5, and 6
golden sun the lost age
final fantas x-2
and chrono cross isn't really standalone if it shares lore with trigger
>I didn't play Chrono Cross
I played chrono cross several times and finished trigger begrudgingly since i loved cross so much.
i never finished cross because i found it ugly and unappealing despite trigger being my favorite game ever
I have, but
Mother > EarthBound > Mother 3
that is the release order, yes
Cute
Mother is the best, Mother 3 is the worst. That better for you?
What is it you like about 1 enough to put it at the top? I like Eve a lot, I thought the zoo was cool and I liked the performance the kids did in the city, but I think 2 is much stronger overall with a lot more memorable scenarios and areas. Also the thought the factory was ass. Least favourite area in the whole series.
The writing, the music, the challenge, the sheer ambition of it, reflected in things such as having a giant world without any world map.
Don't do that!! Go and play it right away so you can talk to her about it. You'll regret it literally forever if you try playing it after she's gone.
Played it on SNES. I think I've still got the strategy guide even though the binding fell apart.
earthbound was the game that made me "understand" rpg's "holy shit dude they actually want me to run around in circles getting in fights with random bullshit enemies to get stronger" i had tried to play the other snes final fantasy games before it but could never get very far and when earthbound came out i kept getting filtered by the termite ant things in the caves of that first town until i discovered grinding
Same. I got to the first boss in SMRPG by sheer luck but got filtered immediately because I simply didn't understand you had to grind in RPGs until EarthBound. And even then it feltike grinding wasn't the intended strategy.
Threadly reminder that Porky did nothing wrong.
>putting the moves on '63'd Giegue
heh. Nice. Go for it, fatty!

Insanely cringe homosexualshit that has plagued Mother discussion for over a decade
Morphine's art is probably older than you anon
Probably not, projecting furgay
Older than most of Deltarune's fanbase at least
>Older than Deltarune's fanbase
>That kid that Tumblr bullied into lighting himself on fire would probably have been old enough to post on Ganker at this point
>>That kid that Tumblr bullied into lighting himself on fire
WHAT. I need a qrd immediately.
So there's these things called ask blogs and people could send in questions and people would answer and this kid ran one for his stupid little original character and like nobody can figure out why but he was literally getting hundreds of "questions" of just the most fricking horrid abuse imaginable.
And this shit gets worse because apparently, you can't like use VPNs to send questions in, and there's a very low rate limit on how many you're allowed to send in, so genuinely, it had to be like HUNDREDS of people sending this horrible shit in, this went on for like 5 years before it just all suddenly stopped, and his blog was deleted. And apparently like the one guy who even knew how to get a hold of him said he burned himself alive and deleted that post.
The only reason people know about this shit is because it was posted to 8ch (which is dead now) and what's even more fricked up is there's a distinct possibility Toby knew about it because apparently he lurked there.
O_O
...
Damn. And I though this website was harsh.
Never underestimate fujos
my mom bought me a snes and earthbound when i was a kid, i never beat it but she did, i would watch her all the time. i always thought that when she dies ill play it and finally beat it.
I played Mother 1 and thought it was pretty okay.
I played Mother 2 and thought it was an improvement in practically every way, and I'm borderline offended nobody has ever stolen the rolling HP meter idea because it's fantastic... but otherwise the game was "Good" at best. Mother 2 somehow has even less story than Mother 1, doesn't make any sense at all as a sequel and is basically just a series of events. Your party members almost literally just appear and tag along.
I haven't played 3 yet, but I've heard it's better.
you'll feel the same about 3 and 2 and way you do about 2 and 1
i did anyway
Really? I thought 3 was meant to be a proper, direct sequel to 2?
2 felt like it should have just been its own thing, the ties to 1 are beyond pointless and almost all retcons.
>retcons
What
Everything about psychic power, pretty much everything about Gigye and especially his vendetta against Ninten, Ninten not being present at all despite this very directly relating to him, magicant, blah blah blah
I think you need to look up what a retcon is
Splitting hairs over exact definitions doesn't change the point.
Whatever your preferred cope is, you actual moron
>The way these characters, these systems, these plot points and these narrative hooks worked changed completely between games
>Um actually, that's not a retcon, that's a handwave, and that's a cop-out, and etc etc
Literally the equivalent of hyper focusing on a spelling mistake, instead of addressing the actual point.
>Things that aren’t ever contradicted in M2
Not retcons
>Ana inexplicably born with PSI despite having no relation to Ninten
This kills the moron’s argument about the silly magic children video games
>Still no actual argument
Based moron
You're just trying to create an argument about nothing.
Mother 2 does not have "retroactive continuity" towards the plot of Mother 1. It is not a sequel to its story. The world structure is mildly different, yes, but being an otherwise different story in a different world does not "dismiss" Mother 1.
A "sequel" does not have to be 01h:23m:24sec followed by 01h:23m:25s in structure before you can justify it just "retroactively dismisses 100% of the continuity!"
Mother 2 was never designed to be that way or to be experienced like that. And this new game, Earthbound, does not retcon Mother 1 just because it doesn't essentially "port" that previous title to the SNES. They're different games. And for a game that has towns like "Moonside" and "Magicant," I would think you would be able to hold your suspension-of-disbelief around the idea it's not all one perfectly realistic universe without alternate dimensions.
I’ve played earthbound on switch right up until poo joins and I have the mother 3 translation cartridge for my gameboy wouldn’t really call myself a fan though
I played Mother 3 in 2008 and looooooooooooooooooooooooove the shit out of it, but I just couldn't get into Earthbound, it's so slow, the music is so tame compared to the frantic songs from Mother 3, I mean I like it but I've been playing it on and off for over a decade now and the last thing I did was get inside the giant walking tower.
I played Mother 3 with the menu patch motherfricker.
I beat Earthbound twice and Mother 3 once. It has been quite a while since then.
I dont identify as a Mother fan, but Earthbound was solid and 3 was pretty good for me. I liked some of the indies it helped inspire like Lisa and Undertale more just by virtue of them having more fun combat and stories
My freshman year at boarding school, my older friend told me about Earthbound. I emulated it and played through half the game in a single night. It's very good. I remember when the English patch dropped too, but I'm saving 3 for a special occasion.
I've beaten at least 4 times, and I've beaten Mother 3 twice. Played it when it rereleased on Switch, and I got misty thinking about Iwata when Smiles and Tears reached "I miss you."
i've played and beaten it at least 5 times in the past 8 years
couldn't even get through mother 3 once. story is just ass
I did, despite not finishing both Earthbound Zero and Citizens of Space. Enjoyed the Sword of Kings grind and the Fobby-farming in Earthbound, while in Mother 3, liked how Duster can flip enemies so that I can 100% my battle memory. Also played Citizens of Earth on a tangent, chuckled a bit when the cops received report of a kid singing his bat on crows, yeah!
I’ve played all three games
Both 2 and 3 are great for different reasons but 1 is really barebones imo. Still good though
Real Earthbound fans have read my fapfic "Saving Paula"
I can't play rpgs without voice acting anymore. It's too boring
Do you want to play earthbound but I scream all of the dialog as hard as I fricking can into my desktop mic?
I played and finished it. I wish I hadn't read so much about it beforehand because it would've been better to get to experience it without spoilers, but I still liked it.
I've beaten Earthbound Zero twice, Earthbound at least a dozen times, and Mother 3 twice (I don't think my heart could handle a third)
probably most of them
I watched a full playthrough of earthbound on youtube and I am a huge fan.
