honestly, I couldn't afford a pc till after the 360 era, after my xbox BSOD'd and they told me it was my fault before accepting the error was a mass problem....I bought a slim ps3 for cheap and sued it as a pc till I could get one.

I have a turbonormie friend that surprised me by telling me he had buyed the parts and built a custom PC, which he had never shown any interest before (he would even say it's just for nerds). He wanted a PC because most normie streamers he watches have gaming PCs.
If you're a streamer you're gonna need a video editing device and that's going to need a GPU/CPU power if you want render speed. Consoles are casuals, while PC is for minmaxing. I won't shame you for it, but a PC just does a lot more than just gaming and Ganker. Actually the real reason I don't like consoles is I had to sold mine months after finishing P5. It just got dusty somewhere else because I didn't like their roster that much

If you wait for sales, or grab a bundle for a decent place, a cpu, ram and mb will cost 500-600 for a decent set.
The ony thing that's really expensive and doesn't have a big transfer rate is the GPU, but with a console, you're paying 300$ for the system, 60$ for a year of xbox live, a typical console shelf life is what, 6-7 years? That's 420$ on top of the console coast, which is significantly more when it releases by about 200$. You're looking at about 750$ for the system in it's lifetime with nothing going wrong, with media that eventually degrades.
In the same token, my PC lasted me about 2 console gens just by buying a high end system at it's peak. If I wanted to, I could turn the settings down to low, and play another year or two more.

What's falling apart? Your power supply, case, storage might be just fine. You could just upgrade the cpu and the gpu. try to build your own if you can.

As for me, I live near a microcenter, so I paid 500$ to get some ridiculous deal on a mb, cpu, and ram which I needed to replace to run the new cards. Then I bought a new high end gpu with the cash I had left from the insurance payout of my old pc going kaput.
I didn't haev to relpace the heatsink, fans, psu, or ssds, so it wound up being cheaper by a decent bit.
tl;dr make a list of the minimum specs you want, then shop around for decent pre builts, compare that to the parts list and see what's cheaper.

A platform needs to have something that other's don't, for me to adopt a new platform. For example, Warcraft 3 was on PC only. Then in 2004 I bought World of Warcraft, which my old Costco computer could not run. This led me to learn what a GPU is. A few years later I bought an Alienware, because they had not tarnished their reputation yet. 2 years in, the Alienware started having problems and then I built my first PC.
That's how I got in to PC.
