I usually only keep it on overnight if I'm rendering something in Blender. Other than that, there's not much need for me to use up electricity if I'm not awake.
Of course. Don't care that adds wear on my SSD when booting it up, don't care that it's "cheaper" to leave it on than off/on. I turn my shit off when I'm not using it because not doing so shows you have no common sense and are an autistic sperg.
I've read about turning off fast boot before, is it really worth it? My SSD containing windows is pathetically tiny and I can save like 12gb by disabling fast boot.
I do turn off fastboot, it's just that the fan is too loud and I can't sleep with it on. I'm willing to buy into the Noctua meme next rig if the fan is as quiet as they say.
tried both the deepcool and dark rock stuff and i like it better than my noctura at this point
they are all good choices though depending on what model you are looking at, single tower/duel tower
if you get a duel you can get away with lower fan speed unless you have one of the chonky chips which really needs the duel tower anyway
Back in the days of yore when components were a lot shoddier, the wisdom was to never turn a computer on/off a lot because it would wear shit down faster. Combine this with OSes being all command prompt shit, so there was no "shutdown"; you just hit the off button. If you go back a bit earlier, hard drives could eat shit during a sudden power loss because the reading arm could throw a surge or even clack around and scratch the platter(there were even simple utilities like park.exe to put the drive into a safe state for killing the juice). Odds are, people born before 2000 by habit never shut their computer off.

I usually only turn it off when there's either a kernel update or I need to change out some hardware, otherwise I tend to just forget about it and leave it on overnight
You don't.

KEK
When I'm not using it.
When my wife's son's boyfriend's husband's wife's son tells me it's time to come buy him a new iPhone.
Last time I turned it off was like two months ago
last time it was 60+ hours so never
*days
i know what to do
basically look for fast boot on your MOBO or windows settings and turn it off, then restart
that's all you need
change your power settings, turn off fast boot.
that's all you need

i cant answer that, I'm just saying how turn it off properly

Why is this on by default anyway? It seems weird to me that the OS is designed so that shutting down the computer doesn't shut down the computer.
Because people complained about having to spend 30-60 seconds booting and starting Windows.
never. at idle my pc draws like 50w at the socket so i don't care about leaving it on all the time.

IIRC I had to reboot because my wifi stayed disconnected after a sleep cycle.
Usually hold the power button to shut it down lmao
been away from home for about 3 weeks(and counting) so here's a screenshot ssh'd from termux
My power is really cheap so I never turn off my PC. I mean how much could it honestly be costing me when I pay 4 cents per kw

i turn off my pc if i plan on being out of the house for more than a few hours, otherwise it stays on
if i'm not going to use it for at least 1hour or more i turn it off
when i dont use it
only when there is a power outage
I shut it down maybe once a week.
