>somehow, this new show, gets Resident evil twice as wrong as the movies did,
I'm gonna need you to justify this, because outside of Wesker (and 90% of the Wesker we see isn't even Albert and what we do see of him, race-swap aside, is pretty authentic), there are no characters from the games that the show even uses, and therefore aren't in a position to misuse. Arguably, Umbrella Co. itself is a sort of character, and I will allow that it is here that the show plays the loosest with established canon by rewriting the aftermath of Raccoon City to protect Umbrella from being dissolved. I personally didn't object to the move, even if it is probably lazy, because the games didn't do any better - without the central antagonistic entity, RE5 and 6 felt a bit listless, 5 being carried solely on the strength of Wesker actually taking a primary antagonistic role for once instead of rubbing his hands from behind the curtain.
>then said "yep, Resident evil, a Post Apocalypse setting".
Sure, this is wrong, but the W.S. Anderson movies did the same thing, so they are 1-1 on that?
So if a bunch of OC Donuts, a marketing-driven retcon, and a thematically off-the-mark post-apocalyptic storyline is a problem for you, fair deal. I'm not going to say you are wrong to feel that way, but it's sincerely disingenuous to claim the W.S. Anderson movies are somehow more faithful to the setting unless you are grading purely on the merit of the number of "I SAW DARTH VADER'S LIGHTSABER AND I CLAPPED" moments, which both of these do have but the films win out just by merit of hours of footage available to cram such things into.
Yeah both frick up the canon in different ways, its utterly bizarre how they pick and choose random events from the game that happen.
Fricking Raccoon City had them drop in shit from Code: Veronica.
I can't fricking understand who the audience for these live-action adaptions is supposed to be.
WTRC was for me wanting 90s shithole town nostalgia and hot hungover only one that doesn't know he's in a horror film Leon.
Don't really see the point of sticking to canon. There's always the games for that. As long as you got the spirit might as well have fun and make something new.

Oh no I'm not arguing they should stick to canon, Resident Evil's plot is famously moronic so they should be fricking changing that.
The problem is they end up referencing the games so fricking heavily that they feel really jarring against everything else going on.
For example the "itchy tasty" scene.

Oh, yeah they probably should have just kept the writing on the window and not had her say it out loud too.

Its more the whole sequence feels like its to get a reaction from those that played the game, with that one it just goes a little too far exactly like you wrote but a bigger one would be the Code: Veronica reference I mentioned earlier, if you've not played the games then all it does is confuse the audience because theres no explanation for what the shit is going on but if you've played the games you end up questioning what the frick is going on because it raises questions regarding Spencer and Wesker who is now a completely different character in that movie.
It just detracts from the experience just to be beholden to the canon without doing anything and I will die on the hill that live action RE's problem is not that it changes canon but that it shits itself half-way and tries to keep as much as it can.

True. Would have probably worked better if they made the film more Lisa stuff since she was already a part of the plot.

It was the fricking scene of the trucker casually walking in while on fire that did it for me.
Only time the show came close was fat boy going John Wick on the zombies and frenchies.
I love Lance Reddick and all that, but come on, he's like in his late 50's and they are making him play the eternally young demonic Blonde Albert Wesker?
so fricking woke it hurts, the point of a video game adaptation is to take the visual elements from the game to a show, if you fail the visual and story beats of the original product, your moronic.
the fricking story doesn't make any sense either, Resident Evil aschews the "Apocalyptic" genre all together, its always supposed to be set briefly after a Biohazard outbreak in a place that didn't have one, so the setting has to have a continuous ending to these events so that it can happen somewhere else.
this is the core concept of the series, fantastical biohazard events happening in places, not "end of the world zombies", hell even the first game isn't about zombies, they are biproducts.
A grip I have with him being black aside from looks in general is Wesker's backstory. He's a fricking old nazi's eugenics experiment. Why the frick would he be black? The Umbrella symbol is made to resemble an iron cross.
It's just bad casting along with bad writing for tweens.
the one you see in the show is a clone the original Wesker in the pic made to do labwork and shit while he is out being evil and fighting Chris in a Volcano
How did Wesker get a black guy's body, never mind Lance Reddick's? Did Orochimaru teach him the body swap jutsu and this is Capcom's way of setting up Shonen Jump vs Capcom?
its more that someone briefly red a synopsis of the first 5 resident evil games in 20 minutes and then poped out a script in another 30.
somehow, this new show, gets Resident evil twice as wrong as the movies did, and that is impressive, especially considering how "light" Resident evil is on story, you can probably accurately sum up the entire series storyline, to the detail, to a person who's never heard about it, in 20 minutes.
more likely a very very very left wing women who doesn't give one frick about this series, read the wikipedia, and just race swapped every role that the studio would allow.
then said "yep, Resident evil, a Post Apocalypse setting".
>somehow, this new show, gets Resident evil twice as wrong as the movies did,

Why do people want an adaptation of interactive media to be identical to its interactive counterpart without the interactivity? Who gives a frick about bad adaptations, they're great fun to watch and shit on with friends.
and? there's hardly anything more sexually charged than fricking vampires, why was everyone surprised that vampires would have sex with anything they wanted.
>Castlevania was great, and made by someone who clearly was paying attention and gave a shit
You laid it on a little too strong, anon. Nobody’s going to fall for the bait now.
OK so chalk it up as another shit piece of RE media and move on, like frick man there's more bad RE content than good at this point, what's another one?
the point of Albert's look in RE5 is that he's supposed to be the complete inversion of a doctor, he has the visual outline of one but is in reality not even close.
his lab coat is actually an over the top leather trenchcoat, that's the visual motif.
I do see the 'doctor' outfit now but now I'm really starting to wonder whether I've missed it all this time or you've been down a 2deep4u rabbit hole.
Science virus stuff has always been around him but he never really delves into the chemistry nerd stuff to really follow through with the doctor motif. Just comes with the zombie virus territory imo
I don't see any doctor's vibes from that at all. It's just aping the Matrix. Bonus points because Wesker literally knows kung fu and moves fast like an agent/Neo.
eh, you only survive if your allowed to or you have some sort of holy protection, you could just never be allowed to leave the Other World forever.
so long as the God of the setting is still in power, and you lack any magical or holy way to beat it, you aren't leaving the fake Other World of silent hill ever.
the only reason Harry Mason did so well is that his Daughter, with the God inside her, believed him to be powerful and strong, as much, if not more, than the demons she drew in her childhood, believing he's more powerful than the God of the setting, making him capable of defeating it.
James was very likely not allowed to leave Silent hill and killed himself.
Heather Mason was tied to the power of the setting, so she , more than any other, could win.
the rest are hardly canon, 4 barely has anything to do with Silent Hill proper and more someone doing a ritual tied to it.
the version of SH thats just weird monsters? yes. the version thats psychological bullshit land? yes also because wesker seems insane enough to not feel any real guilt >HERE IS A PERSONIFICATION OF YOUR INNER TURMOIL THATS ALSO HALF OF YOUR MOTHER >lmao thats rad let me get a pic of that so the boys at the lab can make a bootleg
b***h that wouldn't matter, Dr. Kaufman was an utter sociopath and he is quite fricking dead.
he can kill monsters all day, the very place itself would turn against him, he'd be stuck in a black void of rusty grating and machines that don't do anything for all eternity.
Lab coat with the glasses? How many times does he wear this? The slide you only have to see on your first playthrough? I like the look but wesker always looks cool.
STARS > lab > matrix outfit >>> every other character in the series
Terrible Wesker, still the only good part of this shit-show. I'd say he would have been better as the exact same character, just not be called Wesker, but the plot is dependant on him being Wesker for all the shit he's done in the past and the clones.
lmao, look at this shit, what the frick have they done to Lance Reddick? I fricking loved this dude in Fringe, Lost and Quantum Break. He should fire his agent and have him impaled in a public venue.
>humor, dialogue and tone that would make normies confused or downright repulsed >casting, story and plot that pisses off the people who play the games >terrible actors in each and every role >terrible CGI for what little is shown of the zombies
At this point I'm convinced Netflix is some kind of money laundering or tax write off scheme. They intentionally make shitty shows and movies to declare loses. Its the only explanation for how fricking terrible they are at EVERYTHING
Nope, problem is that execs have no idea why shit is popular and run off pure data, they see a popular franchise and think that will automatically translate to views.
Its why they burned so much money on licensing and fricked over their animation teams.
Its also why so many shows only get 3-4 seasons since after that point you get drop off on viewer counts instead of increases, business by statistics.
boomers who like scifi shows and dont care about every single fricking detail about where it comes from and how related it is to the thing is being adapted from.
my dad found the show on his own. he watched and enjoyed the halo show too.
these shows arent doing anything extremely bad enough to get the outrage it causes they are just mediocre at best. outrage culture is controlled by suits for free tie less shilling. make a few memes in the first 10 mins of episode one and it goes viral. vs spending millions on advertisement adding to project budgets.
Thats exactly it, its why they buy these big name licenses. They *think* that means they can skip most of the advertising budget but its honestly a shot in the dark with this shit and I wish they'd understand that better and focus on more original properties.
I'm fully convinced that Netflix is some sort of money laundering scheme and these woke-ass shows that implode at the end of their first season is the main scheme that use to launder money.
They licensed it which means that whoever own the license can do whatever the frick they want with it since Capcom don't give a shit about movies or TV shows unless it's anime adaptations of their IPs.
In the games there were several Weskers who were adopted children and given the name, all died except Albert and Female from the games no one cares about.

its quite literally a leather trenchcoat made to look like a labcoat.
could Wesker survive Silent Hill?
Easily, SH is only even slightly threatening because the characters are (mostly) normal ass people.
