I don't think it'll be exceptionally sad, or dark and this will come as a surprise to people.
But I do think that the weird route will have some very, very, interesting game softlocking consequences.
I also think the people violently asserting Kris as some sort of nonbinary thing will be disappointed.
No, the thing you're thinking of is when they were doing a gag for an anniversary live stream where there was a soda on the outside of the playable space and Kris could not reach the soda.
Despite being on a several second delay because he was in japan, AND communicating via text to speech, mentally ill gender people assumed he was correcting the other hosts by saying "They're Stuck" because Kris was in dialog with Rudy and couldn't get the soda, which was now moved to the playable space.
that sounds like a load of cope, and this is coming from a guy who thinks kris having a they/themussy is fricking stupid, but whatever helps you sleep at night pal.
Anon, you aren't honestly suggesting that during a stream gag of game character being unable to get a png of soda on an overlay was a deliberate statement of solidarity on the gender of the character, are you?
i probably should've worded my first post differently.
i mean, i don't think it was an intentional correction by toby, but just because it wasn't a correction of the other hosts doesn't mean toby doesn't want people to see kris as a they/them.
kris being a they/them is definitely *a thing*, you can't deny that. the only thing you can really say is that maybe it'll be a bait&switch of some kind, i.e. him being literally two homies or somesuch.

If you've read some of his interviews it's pretty obvious he doesn't.
He's pretty explicit as it being a choice of ambiguity

i mean, that's kinda what i meant. just another thing i could've been more clear on.
kris is supposed to be ambiguous. not "non-binary", but also not actually a guy either like i felt you might've been insinuating in your first post.
look man, i'm tired (and generally stupid), and for some reason i get argumentative when i'm tired.

Kris identifies as they because they are technically two entities in one body
He already addressed this by suggesting a healthy relationship with escapism is good, that's what the entirety of chapter 2 was about.
Of course a lot of people missed this because
NOW'S YOUR CHANCE TO BE A BIG SHOT
nah, toby's not enough of a hack to do the same thing twice. it'll be "escapism is bad!" instead

Escapism is definitely a theme but I feel the overall point of Deltarune will be contextualizing the experience of playing a video game with the journey of the main characters in the Dark Worlds.
Toby likes to pull shit like this, like how Undertale twisted typical RPG mechanics to make a point about the nature of video games and how we interact with them, like how most people played through the Pacifist ending and were touched by it but that didn't stop them from doing the Genocide route and killing all the characters they grew to care about.
The "Angel's Heaven" is going to end up being the player or real life, and by banishing it to save the world, you're basically cutting off your connection to the game and the characters you grew to care about. That's why the "one ending" point is constantly being reiterated, because you're going to delete your save file no matter what.
That does seem to be where it's heading and could fit as a "fever dream ending".
The big question noone can answer is: what is Gaster's goal in all this if the end is just the player being banished again?
Might be projecting a bit but I suspect the Skies Forever Blue music video Toby produced was the fever dream ending he had, "fictional character/toy comes to life" was the premise of many of my dreams, especially when I got sick sometimes.
Something incredibly fricked happened (definitely the roaring) that caused Undertale to be created with seemingly only the skeletons having recollection. Gaster after noticing our presence in Undertale summoned us back to Deltarune to prevent it from happening again.
"Oh but what if i did the geno route why would he want my help"
I don't think that matters. The power to Determine fate is too important. He knows we're curious about it too.
Sans and Papyrus end up getting displaced in the Undertale universe after whatever happens at the end of Deltarune. Sans will be the only character who shares your burden of being forever seperated from your friends and the only thing is you can do is to try not to forget the adventures and experience you had in Deltarune.
>The "Angel's Heaven" is going to end up being the player or real life, and by banishing it to save the world, you're basically cutting off your connection to the game and the characters you grew to care about.
So it's Undertale Yellow's Pacifist ending but maybe better?
>sad
pretty sad; susie's gonna kill ralsei, ralsei's going to be dead, kris is going to shed a single (one) homosexual tear for his dearly departed. noelle's going to overdose on determination and turn into the guy that gets ran over near the end of robocop, her mom is gonna have the fire punch kino face as a permanent expression, toriel is going to prison for her sins, and asgore will win the championship. >dark
darker than a flame snuffed out by candlejack; you know who i'
What if I said that around a year before chapter 1 released I had a weird dream about an Undertale fangame where you controlled someone other than Frisk and were in a classroom with a bunch of monsters
Didn't something like that sort of happen? The Deltarune website was uncovered years before the first chapter came out but no one took note of it that much.
I think some people wanted to make a fan Undertale website and they wanted to use deltarune.com but Toby didn't let them or something. Maybe someone waltzed into the website somehow but didn't think there was anything there
I remember people theorizing that the sequel/follow up would be party based and I thought it'd be dumb (to be fair chapter 1s combat really felt weird without the s-acts and r-acts)
The "message" will be: >If you are in a world where nothing matters in the grand scheme of things, do your smaller choices matter? Do you have Freedom?
The ending of the game will be the same no matter what you do. You can make small choices that will impact the lives of the characters within the game, but the ending will be the exact same. Toby himself said there is something more important than reaching the end.
I'm very pregnant right now, and at the moment on stream when Spamton said "Are you a single mother? No? Well, you will be soon." that absolutely terrified me, because for some reason I felt like Spamton threatening to kill my husband specifically (I met my husband in Undertale fandom btw). This stream reached somewhat a fever dream state.
It’s going to be real dark and sad for krusie gays watching noelle and Susie walking and holding hands, probably married in the epilogue time skip
While Kris is fricking dead and dusted
Yeah I've always been huffing copium about this but let's be honest it's gonna happen. It's a shame because that and the radio robot guys from Chapter 2 were basically the only things I didn't like about the game
those are flags that she's emotionally unstable, impressionable, and was deeply affected by her sister's death/disappearance, not that she's going to die
Usually when a character says something along the lines of "oof, one day you're going to be the death of me or something", there's at least a 60% chance that's cheeky foreshadowing that they'll get killed.
Depends on how fricking emotionally weak you are, and if this shit makes you sad, then you don't belong here

Why does Sans have a picture of the fun gang in his secret lab? Does this mean he’ll be a major character in the coming chapters?
It'll be another 'violence is bad!' type of deal and its gonna be seen as game of the century due to nostalgia for undertale
nah, toby's not enough of a hack to do the same thing twice.
it'll be "escapism is bad!" instead

that shit is so gay. i wanna play mario
That does seem to be where it's heading and could fit as a "fever dream ending".
The big question noone can answer is: what is Gaster's goal in all this if the end is just the player being banished again?
Gaster is a scientist, scientists love experimenting
Additionally, there's a 99% chance he knows he's in a video game. Maybe he wants to know the true nature of the player or something
Gaster still seems to have a motive of creating a new future
Might be projecting a bit but I suspect the Skies Forever Blue music video Toby produced was the fever dream ending he had, "fictional character/toy comes to life" was the premise of many of my dreams, especially when I got sick sometimes.

Getting enough money to pay for Chara's college tuition
>The "Angel's Heaven" is going to end up being the player or real life, and by banishing it to save the world, you're basically cutting off your connection to the game and the characters you grew to care about.
So it's Undertale Yellow's Pacifist ending but maybe better?
There will be misery rivaled only by the finale of Toby's dad's creation.
Only 2 days to go...
Looking forward to the carnival...
*guarantees ludo*
it's that easy

wait deltarune will be 10 years old in 4 years
What if I said that around a year before chapter 1 released I had a weird dream about an Undertale fangame where you controlled someone other than Frisk and were in a classroom with a bunch of monsters
I can believe it.
I'd believe it. Not like it's a very original though, it's basically just Persona x Undertale with an OC protag.
original thought*
Didn't something like that sort of happen? The Deltarune website was uncovered years before the first chapter came out but no one took note of it that much.
I think some people wanted to make a fan Undertale website and they wanted to use deltarune.com but Toby didn't let them or something. Maybe someone waltzed into the website somehow but didn't think there was anything there
The DR website has been active since late 2015 and it spelled out the first line of the prophecy.
https://web.archive.org/web/20160817183540/http://www.deltarune.com/
I remember people theorizing that the sequel/follow up would be party based and I thought it'd be dumb (to be fair chapter 1s combat really felt weird without the s-acts and r-acts)
The only reason why Deltarune is party based was because Undertale's combat system was incompatible but he wanted to test himself anyway.
The "message" will be:
>If you are in a world where nothing matters in the grand scheme of things, do your smaller choices matter? Do you have Freedom?
The ending of the game will be the same no matter what you do. You can make small choices that will impact the lives of the characters within the game, but the ending will be the exact same. Toby himself said there is something more important than reaching the end.

But wait, if Penumbra “Phantasm” becomes real, wouldn’t it not be phantasmic anymore?
Where will be the dark world of adventure no. 4?
I always thought a food world in Ice-E's could be fun
Church or Asgore's flower shop

Who will be the secret boss of adventure no.3?!
I’m going to regret this.
Sauce.
Snack Basue, ep 4

Bold of you to assume Noelle won't be dead either, she's got 50 death flags sticking out of her
those are flags that she's emotionally unstable, impressionable, and was deeply affected by her sister's death/disappearance, not that she's going to die
Usually when a character says something along the lines of "oof, one day you're going to be the death of me or something", there's at least a 60% chance that's cheeky foreshadowing that they'll get killed.
>those are flags that she's emotionally unstable
You mean this flag?
I will do anything in my power to stop this from happening. Noelle will proceed and kill Susie for me.
Sounds kino
At this point I almost don't care anymore. It's like waiting for Half Life 3. Took too long.
