Thise are from sample CDs, do you mot think something like this would be sampled? There are Islamic chants that aren’t supposed to be heard outside of mosques in OOT.
He would only be putting them in for political reasons after being exposed to Twitter.

It's Sega. Only fan projects that Sega hired like Sanic Mania seem to actually retain what made them good. SOR4 was good, but I don't think it did a good job of capturing the urban grittiness of the genesis games. The new 3d game actually does look gritty but the gameplay so far looks like a generic PS2 brawler where you're most likely going to fight random waves of enemies who just stand there doing fricking nothing like in the trailer.

That game's Phantasy Star 4 remix of Ooze was shit. You get this badass heavy metal track but Sega just turns it into generic space pop music. Sega is that one company where I actually do trust the fans to make something better than what modern Sega can pull off.

Sega is completely out of touch. Instead of making 10 shitty games they should just make 1 good game, how about that.

      >they should just make 1 good game, how about that.

When was the last time that happened?
I can't think of anything that I liked from modern sega that wasn't just a commissioned fan project or some meme shit like Yakuza that I liked for about a week and then dropped it because it's fricking boring. I wanted to like Sanic Frontiers. Holy shit it's way worse than botw.

    >Why did a game explicitly trying to be identical to a specific game which is a considerable selling point look more like the game than a sequel to a game released 22 years (minimum) later

Fricking ALL of the revival games looked off or terrible. This whole thing strikes me as lazy cash grabs thrown together by small D teams with shoestring budgets. I'm not expecting massive AAA spectacles here but I've seen game jam games knocked together in a week that had more passion and effort put into them than these.

Bomb Rush Cyber Funk looks like ass, because it attempted to jack the style 1:1. Rather than improve on it in any way. But they weren't even competent enough to jack the style to an exacting degree. So it just looks like a slightly cheaper version of JSRF.

I'm going to keep a cautious eye on this new JSR game. There is something "off" about it. But I like the fact that it's pushing the style forward with greater detail.

      Anonymous

I don't want more realism in JSR though. Cyberfunk was incredibly unoriginal but this may be even worse. It looks more like JSR costume pack for another game.

Don't use the R-Word. Realism. Whenever that word gets used, it makes people shut their brains down, and it because a silly war of platitudes. Rather, let's look at the JSR style, and figure out what it consists off. The proportions are that of tall people. They're not stunted in a chibi fashion. They're all long-limbed. They're all 7.5 heads tall or more. Their eyes aren't espeically huge. They have pronounced noses. They have some muscle definition. Some actual anatomy.

There's a lot of dimension to them that the graphics of yesteryear couldn't capture. The anatomy of their limbs were simplified to 4 sided boxes How do you convey muscle with only 4 flat planes? Everything about them was simplified when translated into 3D. I think more detail is necessary to get near what the style is supposed to be. So please don't call it... the R-word.

          Anonymous

I think the opposite, less detail is necessary to get them to what it was originally supposed to be because they were intentionally drawn as loose, almost sketchy, kind of cartoony figures for a Dreamcast. They were designed without a ton of detail to look good on that hard ware. Look at the picture up top and see it doesn't look anything like the old style. It looks like an unrelated character wearing cosplay. And they haven't added much new to this style yet, that could change, they could add more but right now it just looks like a very uninspired and cheap filter and doesn't inspire hope for me at least.

            Anonymous

I'm not going to say the OP's model is perfect. But it is about the amount of detail density required for the style. I mean take a look at the old models. They're way too simple. The sketches have biceps and triceps and elbows, and shoulders, and collar bones, and wrinkles in clothing. And most of it never got translated into 3D. And you say you want LESS detail? You don't know what you're talking about.

idc about the player model realism, but i want the surreal backround buildings that just made you think about how living in such a place would be like.
I want the sharp angular blockiness that the worlds buildings, structures, rails, etc had. It was kino of the highest order

BRC is good for what it is but it tries to copy an exact time period. It can be considered as an expansion disc at best. The new Jet Set Radio is an actual sequel. I love the original Dreamcast/Xbox look but I'm kind of glad they try to make something new. With that said I do appreciate the nostalgia I got through BRC.

Best would be if they remastered JSR/F and sold them with the new one.

None of the games they showed in that trailer looked particularly good. I realise it's early footage, but Steets of Rage and Golden Axe in 3D doesn't look good. Everything looked low budget, which isn't shocking considering they're doing a TON at once instead of focusing on a few things. But it's Sega so what do I really expect.

BRC looks exactly like JSRF from 2001 and has a playtime of 6 hours
This new game is trying to modernize the style, it looks more painterly than blocky and cartoonish, works better with the high polycount
