How the frick did people play this on a N64? Even playing the remaster on PC feels like a real chore.

nintentoddlers have very low expectations when it came to N64 software. turok 1+2 were ok but the environment graphics and draw distance was appalling.
    > add more fog!
fantastic. pc version was better to play. either way, game series was overhyped and under delivered.

It's not hard. And the remaster is great.

Nonsense. Turok is one of the best console FPS series ever.

None of the Turok games are actually very good. First one sold well 'cuz it was probably the first FPS on N64 (predates Goldeneye). Second one was popular for gimmick weapons; for years journalists were creaming their pants over the "cerebral bore."

Once console FPS games became profitable enough for a bunch to start coming out, Turok faded into obscurity outside of nostalgia for the N64 games. Even then I don't think I knew anyone who played Turok 3.

Late N64 games were harder to find. I only saw Ogre Battle 64 and Lode Runner 3D once at a store. I don't think I've ever seen Knife Edge, and Star Soldier was only a rental. I don't think I ever saw Turok 3.

      >Turok 2 was only popular because it was fun

      You're moronic.

"gimmick" does not equal "fun," and it's not just the weapons that were gimmicky. The level designs are non-linear for the purpose of... just backtracking for a key? Gimmicky level design.

Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, and most PC FPS games were all more fun. Sorry you were stuck with just an N64 for a period of your childhood.

I didn't even know there was anything beyond 1 and 2. I didn't know about 3 or rage wars until 7th gen. First game is a classic though

The only chore is going back into previous levels just to find one key every time

You shouldn't be playing "remasters" though, ever

I also hate it when they remove the fog and make it run at greater than 15 fps

You could do that in the original PC version too

Frick off, the Turok remasters are excellent

Turok 2 is not a babby modern shooter in which you run from setpiece to setpiece. Take your time and go exploring. The bullshit in this game is kept at a minimum. Frick the turrets in the Hive though lmao.

Uh-huh yeah, the N64 slideshow is vastly superior. Just shut the frick up.

Spend well over half an hour slogging through Lair of the Blind ones. Figure it must be coming to an end soon. Look up a walkthough and find the level is only half way through. Quit game and into the trash it goes.

I can understand getting frustrated at Lair, it's a very confusing level. Probably my least favourite too.

It paved the way for Metroid Prime, which is a better game
    >Great animation
    >Variety of weapons
    >surprisingly good underwater controls
Everything else is shit for sure

They messed up with the size/scale of the protagonist, that alone makes it a moronic version

Turok 1 was awkward to control. Played it again 10 years later and there was no problem. lol.

It would be even better if you could use the wii remote. Don't get any ideas and try it, though. It won't work. Wii remote works with doom and wolfenstein.

    Don't know turok 2

I remember really liking Turok 3 and then I got Half Life and stopping playing FPS on consoles

I agree. However I did play it to completion and only motivation to keep playing were the gruesome death animations. No game does death animations like Turok 2. Fricking none.

the shine and goopiness reminds me of conker. Not sure if it's 64 or xbox where it looks just as satisfying

5th gen 3D was a fricking mistake. 5th gen should've remained 2D and 7th gen should've remained SD. now both gens aged like shit.
