I don't know, I've played CivIV since around 2008 and I've never git gud. Monarch is my go to difficulty. Also, I don't remember the last time I've played vanilla Civ, 4 is the undisputed GOAT in terms of mods.

Civ 4 filters me. I don't know if it's the AI cheating but multiple civs always have 3+ cities on me meanwhile I can barely get my GPT above 0 and I can't expand.

AI gets bonuses after monarch iirc.

AI apparently gets better unit maintenance (and other?) bonuses on Noble.
I don't know how you measure it but because difficulty scales your bonuses and numbers, there isn't a pure "bonus", and there is no difficulty level where the AI gets the same amount of bonus as you.

the noble differences are absolutely trivial

do you play with vassals y/n

      Anonymous

      yes
but that's only a problem on some semi-isolation setups where the AI runs off with a victory due to vassalizing a bunch of people on the other continent before you've even met them
I tend to keep up or even outright beat immortal AI at research, commerce etc etc until late rennaissance. I'm mostly the first the get liberalism, but I'm not sure what happens for me to lose most of my advantage over the course of like 10 turns

100% of my savescum is because of vassals

Rise of mankind a new dawn mod is super comfy. Just managed to pull off grabbing Hellenism first and getting Parthenon as a philosophical civ on emperor difficulty, which is crazy hard given how much of a tech headstart civs get.

Why would you want to? Take your time in the lower difficulties. Getting good in his genre means funneling yourself into less numbers viable strategies to compete with the cheats the ai gets. But if you are struggling on noble then it makes sense to learn some basics.

      >Take your time in the lower difficulties
      shit advice
the game plays drastically different on immortal and especially deity where you have but a handful of tactics you can utilize to win
with emperor and below, you can just pump it and wing it, but with immortal/deity you have to go for very specific combinations where time is of particular essence, like cuirassier, cannon, ele/cata rushes. You also need to learn diplomacy down to a T, especially tech trading

point being, you won't progress by adapting and mastering a lower difficulty - and you won't progress by just bashing your head against immortal/deity because these lower difficulties do not adequately prepare you for top play
the only way, as other anon suggested ITT, is to watch top players and see what they do and how they do it - which itself isn't all too reliable just because there's still a lot left up to pure chance and enormous amounts of calculation. You won't find a single player in the world who can win literally every deity game out there

        >tech trading
I turn this off because it is too easy to abuse

I only beat Immortal on Earth18civs as Rome with Praetorians. You need to dominate the game, get rank 1 GNP, just outrun the AI technologically. Make sure to keep selling spare resources, time civic changes for golden ages, snipe key wonders like Statue and the Internet - it's all about technique at the high end. The quality of your execution really matters, not just what strategy you pick.

Advanced Civ is the real challenge, the AI is so much stronger it's unreal. Monarch in that feels like Immortal.

You never played civ 4, did you?
You have to expand slowly but surely throughout the game. ICS does not work in 4. REX does, now and again, but you have to have a plan to figure out how to pay for it sooner or later.
If you just shit out as many cities as possible like in civ 1-3 + SMAC, your economy will die, you will not be able to pay support for military units, and your science will be stuck at 0%.

            >Those fricking morons read the guide on how maintenance works
            >Without fricking understanding a thing
This is your brain when starting from 5 and they bouncing off from every other Civ game

no its not cause map is randomly generated and your enemies are also random, if you think you can just copy a "build" and will consistently win on deity you are clueless. There are people who play for years who never even touch higher difficulties.

it's so funny how all these brainlets oust themselves. It's obvious they never won an emperor game, let alone an immortal or deity one
otherwise, they wouldn't be talking shit about "muh meta", "muh guide" and "muh solved game"
again, the best civ 4 players in the world can't win in a lot of circumstances on deity. Sometimes, you'll get isolated or semi-isolated while the AI runs away with 2-3 vassals on another continent while you're busy appeasing your Ragnar neighbor for the first 120 turns and there's jack shit you can do about it
deity is a struggle for even the best players in the world

Research and build enough of your unique unit and possibly supporting units lie siege at the right time before the AI gets enough miltech or walls to obsolete it with the economy to support it and survive the rapid expansion from conquering AI cities afterwards. That's it bro it's easy.

Gets real wacky with the open borders, civilizations from the other side of the continent will send (mediocre) stacks to attack you crossing over other, more vulnerable nations.
Also I need to learn how to fix my economy with that mod, I have a habit of getting carried away with conquering the AI’s poorly garrisoned cities.
