It didn't even sell that much in the UK
however, in the rest of Europe the sales are skyrocketing, especially France and Spain. Probably gonna sell even more with DLC and the world cup coming soon.

It's just a really good console. The sales are also a lot more organic/word or mouth rather being based on advertising/hype/brand recognition. The reason the Switch just seems to keep going and going - despite most people agreeing that it's looking pretty underpowered these days - is that most people have a friend or a family member that has one, and when they try it out they realize it's actually really cool and for the price is something they definitely want in their life. Most people I know irl who have one don't even really care if a game is an exclusive or not; it just has such a great library there's shit for everyone and playing modern games on a comfy handheld just works.

      Anonymous

I've seen the same. I dont take the switch out often, but it has often happened that acquaintances asked me about it telling me they had been on the verge of buying it for a long time.

It's just an atractive product and word of mouth/personal experience seems to work very well for it. The other consoles have become a bit intimidating for the average user. Like if you get a ps5, its an investment since you should be aware about what's new on it that you can take advantage of, and how the new asscreed is so much better on it than on your crappy ps4.

The switch is self evident about its perks, and to the average normie, they can't tell right away if the graphics are better or worse, specially with indies or old games. This guy was amazed by the fact that i could play FFVII on the thing. Which is trivial if you are into videogames a lot, but for him, seeing someone just playing FFVII on the go was just the fricking future.

        Anonymous

You could play ff7 on a fricking 2012 phone. Are people getting more braindead nowadays?

          Anonymous

Videogames don't thrive on customers who are aware of the state of the art. FFVII on a phone is a thing since ages ago, but most people who liked FFVII back then don't really play that much anymore or buy videogames for their phones. And it's not that they necessarily didn't believe it was possible, it's just that they did not have the occasion to see FFVII running in a long time, in a handheld no less.

And it's more like "wow, it's pretty cool that you can play EVEN FFVII on that. What else is on it?" And the answer is a great bunch more. If you'd rather play an old comfort game like FFVII than whatever is the last new thing, you'd have a switch 10 times before any other device on the market.

      You forget
      >force everyone to comply to your consoles hardware capabilities
      >don't like it? we have zelda, mario, pokemon, we don't give a frick about you
Nintendo's Apple-like ecosystem is so established at this point that they can release a relatively underpowered console like Switch and it'll sell.

        >force everyone to comply to your consoles hardware capabilities
        >don't like it? we have zelda, mario, pokemon, we don't give a frick about you

That mindset is what sunk the Wii U.

The Switch is actually easy to develop for because it isn't using a weird proprietary architecture.

Pokemon is not even the biggest seller on the switch. It's mario Kart 8, which is the same biggest seller as the wiiU, only on a hardware people can understand and tolerate.

Mario, Zelda, and other Nintendo exclusives have 3 functions as far as I see:
        1. Tech demo: “look what this weak hardware is capable of”
        2. Market potential: “30M people bought MK8 for an average price of $55, so YOU too can become rich if you sell a fraction of that with your game”
        3. Standardization: “if people could buy Zelda instead of your action-adventure game, what advantages do you offer? Price, performance, graphics?”

                >must have games made entirely with switch in mind

I personally enjoyed a lot Mario Odyssey, Metroid Dread, Luigi's Mansion 3, Smash bros, Splatoon 2 and Fire Emblem.

Link's awakening 3D remake was cute too.

In any case, people doesn't need to arbitrarily limit the videogames they play on the switch like that. The wiiU games are great, and many third party games don't really use the extra power in other consoles. So all of that adds up to a desirable product for many.

                Anonymous

I agree on odyssey, smash and mansion. Though even smash feels like a best of rather than something with it's own identity. I feel the switch library was very frontloaded and fell off after 2019. I really wanted to like ACNH but they fricked it up

                Anonymous

I think Smash ultimate is what it needed to be. I personally am not interested in seeing another smash game for a very long time, but we know this won't last.

But well, I think the switch library is more than fine. The last time a nintendo console had a solid Mario, a solid Zelda and a solid Metroid was the Super Nintendo, so on the first party heavy hitters i'm not complaining that much.

But yes, you can tell that game development is not as light as it used to be with them. Everything takes way more time than it should.

in other words, 12% of switch owners. This is the cope that snoys keep hanging on to, can't make this shit up.

I always see threads like these but honestly it's just natural for the three consoles to have growths and declines. I can't think of any reason anyone would make threads like these unless they're an abnormal sale increase in the month. 60%-70% sales increase? Sure, make a thread. 24% increase? It's just basic economic expansion and contraction.
