PoE is a fricking chore
So is any MMO or ARPG like Diablo 4.
Diablo4 is the biggest chore of any ARPG except you don't even get loot drops to keep your monkey neurons activated.
PoE is not f2p, the game is unplayable without at least $30 in stash tabs. Playing without them is akin to a demo.

Ignoring any discussion of quality, people know Blizzard. They know Diablo, they know that it more or less put that genre of gameplay on the map, they know its history, and they know how excited a lot of other people were, or at least saw it was being advertised as some big new release.
PoE is a much more recent game, made by devs that haven't established themselves well outside of making PoE, and rarely gets discussed outside of groups that would already be playing it as is if they wanted that type of game. That's not even mentioning how it can be intimidating for new players to get into. The second you start, you're immediately introduced to a level up screen that takes multiple seconds to scroll through with how huge it is. On top of that, it's old now. You've got a dedicated fanbase that has their own terms, expectations of other players, trading culture, and, like with all online games, a certain level of gatekeeping.
Diablo 4 just came out, offers quick and easy Saturday night co-op idiocy, is from a known company, and has been advertised to the masses. Whereas, for PoE, you're asking why only 100k are playing on a release of a new "league". Think about that. The average consumer doesn't even know what the frick a league is and why it is some big event.

PoE is overly complex, like a full time job with overtime.
Pathetic, mouth breathing loyalists who learned nothing from D3 and Immortal. Casual gamers who consume KFC and other lowest common denominator slop. It's kind of sad, actually. I just don't get why you would want to pay to play an inferior game. PoE has more interesting loot, more creative builds, procedurally generated dungeons, is free with free updates every 4 months. Some people just wanna play a mindless game where you are forced into cookie cutter builds, grind for generic items that just make your BIG NUMBER go up, has no crafting and trading.

Congratulations you just realized brands and nameplates matter a lot, and this is exactly why entertainment companies today don't come up with anything new and instead just rehash existing things.
PoE has been shitting the bed recently(IE: the past couple years or so) but more importantly you need a significant amount of time invested into it to truly appreciate how autistically in depth the building can get, and a lot of casual players just aren't willing to spend hundreds of hours on the game.
That being said D4 is hot garbage and a slightly tweaked clone of D3 which wasn't good in the first place so I don't get why people are buying that either.

Diablo is a lot more casual, you pick it up, you build your character, you kills demons, perfect for playing after an 8 hour work day
