How was Square able to put out such a ridiculous amount of LUDO on the Sony Playstation?

How was Square able to put out such a ridiculous amount of LUDO on the Sony Playstation? Was it efficient management, easy technology to work with, abuse of workers or plain old soul?

      >Exactly zero of these games are remembered for their gameplay
People remember how in Parasite Eve you have to swap armor around during the true final boss otherwise some fricking energy bar stops filling. Way to drop the ball on the last fight of the game.

ahh yes shitty casualized """remakes""" of famicom final fantasy... and a port of chrono trigger... true ps1 quality...

      >ahh yes shitty casualized """remakes""" of famicom final fantasy... and a port of chrono trigger... true ps1 quality...
Chrono Trigger is the only good game Square ever made and every staff member except Toriyama hated it so they made Chrono Cross. Square is such shit.

Einhander. Also remembered for being one of the rare few 60fps 3D 5th gen games.

This and being unshackled from Nintendo's restrictions. They were finally free.

FF6, CT, and FF7's major success gave them enough capital to thrive on PS1. It helps that a lot of their Snes titles were also a success. They had a lot of teams ready to take advantage of next gen.

Square was ahead of everyone in terms of tech in that period. They must have gone through some serious investment to acquire the manpower, skills, and tools; but thankfully they already had the money.

it's really depressing to look at square having been able to shit out this many incredible games on one platform and nowadays they barely put out two games per generation

Sony was underwriting their development costs so they could just sit back and make classics like there was no tomorrow.

Most of these games sucked, honestly. Squaresoft just had interesting ideas, good writers (especially for the time), and were on the cutting edge of cgi.

Blows my mind that a lot of other great games like Tobal 2, Front Mission 2 and Racing Lagoon never made it to the States.

It was a snowballing from the first Final Fantasy game. Went from FFI, to II, then it opened up various new projects like Mana and SaGa. More revenue, more people being brought it, then establishing more games and one offs on the Super Famicom like Chrono, Front Mission. PS1 was just the right storm without modern game costs to be cutting edge, pre-Spirits Within, and the build up when the first Final Fantasy turned the company around. After Spirits Within, certain people leaving and others rising to the top really hindered Square for a long time. They've gotten better recently, but I don't think they can rival their PS1 output ever again in quantity and quality.

The cost of production and the profit margin where in perfect balance to where any games that fell short of expectations could be carried by the bigger sellers and still in that way add to the overall bottom line.

I've only ever played Chocobo Racing and Einhander (never got into RPG's) but I really enjoyed both. I still want to play Ehrgeiz and the Tobal games at some point too

LITERALLY NO ONE HAS PLAYED LIKE HALF OF THESE IT IS THE DEFINITION OF THE HALO EFFECT

    >Doooood Square was cookin' AF!!!

Yeah, homie? Tell me right now you've played Musashi, Bushido 2, any of the Chocobo games, Ehrgeiz, Einhander, Front Mission 3, Parasite Eve II, either SaGa, either Tobal or Vagrant Story.

YOU FRICKING HAVEN'T. RAW DATA *PROVES* YOU HAVEN'T.

        >See a bunch of game cases lumped together
        >"Haha yeah dood all them's is classics!"
        >Meanwhile you and 99% of people haven't played more than like two of them
It's the textbook definition of overrating something that's just *okay.* Nobody is ever going to call PE2 or Tobal No. 1 a masterpiece and that's okay. Acting as though Ehrgeiz is anything more than a weird spin-off made with reused assets is cringe, because it has next to no legacy and, once more, most people have not played it.

Saying square was on fire because they put out a shit ton of games in a short amount of time isn't treating every game like it was the second coming. Fricking Christ, you give anything any amount of praise these days and suddenly you get morons screaming that everything is overrated from that one compliment.
