How were the Final Fantasy XIII sequels?

I'm feeling nostalgic for FFXIII and never played the sequels.

I didn't like LR, at all. Some people love it though so w/e.
XIII-2 is... interesting. It improved some things from XIII and made some other things worse. But it's also a really excellent time-travel game as far as the "feel" of time travelling goes, and the sort of shit that puts a person through. Unless you hated XIII and don't ever want to experience that battle system again, it's worth a play.

LRXIII is 10/10 and you're both salty homosexuals who can't enjoy anything in life.

      XIII-2 is alrighty overall 7/10

      XIII 8/10

The only semi-redeeming thing about the game is the combat (sometimes) with 3 people in your party, but the game gives you 2 member parties for most of the first 20 hours of the game.

LR is a legitimately good game and I say that as someone who dislikes Rightning.

XIII is the worst of the trilogy.

I replayed XIII last year because I was feeling nostalgic too. It was fun. Combat system still sucks and the story is ok the second time but there were some cool moments. The music and the cool character design carry it. The HD upgrade mods add a lot.
The combat is what it is but the cool animation s make it fun to watch atleast.

Xiii 2 I only played back when it launched. I mean to replay it sometime. From what I remember story was a total frickery with time shit thrown in. It was much shorter.. Moogles look like ass unlike other final fantasy.

Lightning returns I never played. One day

Why the frick are these the only FF games you can't play on a modern console?

      Anonymous

Because Crystal Tools was a technical disaster that's been depreciated for years so nobody wants to work on it, and "modern consoles" being the generation where the Pixel Remaster project simultaneously brought back multiple games which previously had similarly spotty release history.

It's crazy the made three final fantasy 13 games. Probably the last time square will allow such a creative project of that scale

You're looking at the perspective of them releasing one games and then sequels, not their original plan of having multiple simultaneously running XIII "series". The trilogy was them scaling it BACK.

I have a couple of hours in 13-2, it's really weird. Combat feels marginally better, although the "pokemon" mechanics are kind of fricking stupid. The story is kind of weird in that there's both a timeskip and time travel involved. It also feels like the writers just hate Snow and wanted to make the main male lead a new love interest for Serah, it reads as really bizarre. They also made the level up system moronic in the sense that it is possible to OBJECTIVELY frick up your stats by not leveling the right thing in the right order. Lobbing the moogle at the environment and seeing it bounce off of stuff is mildly entertaining.

XIII-2 is fine if don't care about min-maxing, otherwise you have to follow an autistic guide. The level up system in XIII-2 is just complete trash, you have to pick certain roles to level up at certain times on certain nodes because you get different stats on random things like if the level is even/odd and the game never explains it at all. FFXIII was better, and is underrated. The level up system completely ruined XIII-2 for me.

It's one of those things though like it doesnt really matter. You should've b***h about the perfect pet stats rather than sarah and noel.

You are a literal moron and I mean this in the nicest most honest way possible. I completely 100% the game to include all the superbosses and DLC. I never used a single guide and I had literally NO idea the leveling system worked like this lmao. XIII-2 has one of my favorite OSTs and I still listen to it when I'm studying.

A lot of the games have stuff like this, and you can always tell the regular players from autistic wikidivers whenever it comes up. Final Fantasy IX had similar bullshit with its leveling, where your stat gains depended on the equipment you were wearing. So you have some people claiming that ruined the game because you're encouraged to never level up until the end game. But this ignores the fact that you'll be like level 38 by the time you reach the final dungeon, and the enemies there will shower you with XP. Nobody playing normally would ever have their stats gimped by the time they reached the final boss, anyway.

XIII-2 was a lot better than I expected, and it's up there for one of the best soundtracks in the entire franchise. Never cared to try Lightning Returns, though.

    XIII-2 > XIII > LR > FFXV

But if I could, I would delete those 4 games from existence.

The rule of the 13 trilogy is each game in the series is better than the last. 13 is a 6/10 13-2 is a 7/10 and LR is 8/10. If you really like the entire cast you can bump those scores up by 1 each. The game play gets better the stories get better and LR really is a great final entry. Serah is also my favourite final fantasy protag and I love how the games get progressively higher stakes. One of the few JRPGs where killing God at the end feels appropriate. If you don't like Lighting 13-2 really doesn't focus on her much so you get a little break. LR is weirdly such a great game, majoras mask meets Shenmue meets a really cool battle system. Never played a game quite like LR but it really does require you to play the whole trilogy AND read the in-game lore to appreciate it.
