So this pretty much confirms that pokemon choose to get captured
you weaken it first then capture. But it has happened in the past that pokemon can break out of their pokeballs if the pokemon is too strong, usually legendaries.

The first DLC is all about watching him slowly decend into madness, he has a love/hate relationship with you because you keep beating him in battles, everyone loves you and even his giga b***h sister likes you, then when he finds out that the legendary pokemon he was obsessed with also wants to go with you and not him, is what triggers him.
DLC 2 is you overpowering him again after he reached his villain arc peak. He might say at the end that he understands and is more calm now, but that boy ain't right anymore.
He's basically an NTR character that becomes aware he is the cuck and wants out, but you won't allow it.

Once the main DLC story was over, he mellowed out like he used to be. He walked through the fire and came out a new, self-realized person.

His whole character arc in the beginning is being infatuated with (you) being so strong as he starts blooming out of his shyness into someone that can can walk two steps without hiding behind his butch sister with anger issues that does everything for him. (you) are his shining beacon of light, he gets stronger and stronger trying to catch up to (you), but as his sister starts getting mushy with (you) the game end up forcing you in a situation where you agree to hide the secret of the legendary pokemon he obsesses over together with the sister and their grandparents, and he sees you all conspirating behind his back.
