I think the dolphin jumping could still happen. they love mini games and even added some new ones like darts and that weird pump in the sewer.
The only thing they had to do was to follow the original storyline and add content that complements it. Had people known that it was going to be some idiotic time ghosts of timeline saving sequel, almost nobody would have bought it.

People would be looking for a replication of their childhood memories and nostalgia but they wouldn't be able to find it because even with improved graphix it would just be "another replay with a more fancy mod" at best and the complains would start coming in.
You can see how people nitpicked even stuff like all the nuREs, and a so-called "proper FFVII remake" would receive far worse treatment, and it's not like relatively short RE games can even remotely be compared to an epic of tens of hours with unique assets for every new area that is FFVII. It would either take like 20 years to develop, or would otherwise have to compromise on the Unique assets and start becoming a "template open world" such as ME1 was with it's identical bases.

But he didn't do all the other stuff you attribute him with. Those were mostly Nojima and Toriyama ideas.

That's true, but it still means this new Sephiroth has ruined any chance of replicating moments like this and conveying the same tone. Killing a giant snake isn't that impressive compared to what we already saw at the end of FFVII Remake. They can come up with interesting stuff for him to do, but if they just try to repeat the old story beats it won't work as well with him.
No it isn't. All that's revealed is that he went batshit crazy and was talking about scouring humanity from existence. The whole "mortally wound the planet to merge with the Lifestream and become a God" thing was only revealed way later in the story. Until then the party knew basically nothing about what Sephiroth was actually intending to do, they were just pursuing him because of personal investment (in Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith's cases) or to keep him out of Shinra's hands (in Barret's case).
But there's still the mystery of "how did cloud survive, how did tifa survive, and why is he back NOW?"
Also, the complete mindfrick of visiting Nibelheim and it looks like it wasn't burned down at all, however short it was.
This, he was some mysterious hyper threat, always looming somewhere, nobody understanding how or why he is acting the way he was, nobody could figure out what he was thinking, and as a player he was the one character you wanted to learn about the most. Cloud's story in Kalm just makes you more interested in what the frick he is.

The scene originally had normal red blood (and much compared to the final game). When people datamined the demo of the game they found the scene there and we all got our hopes up that they will show blood.
By the time the final game released the red blood was purple goo. So it's pretty obvious that they changed it because of PEGI or ESRB or Cero frickery.
XVI decided to go with an M rating and I feel like that's the best direction for FF games.
While you could get away with showing Blood and impaling and other such stuff in the 90s and still get a T-rating, times have changed and it has held FF back a lot.
FF stories post FF4 might have been shounen anime for teenagers and kids but they always had some dark as shit moments that made a difference in how impactful the plots were. Being forced to remove stuff like that is one of the reasons the series have regressed overall, among other things.

No they don't. You see the body in its tank in Hojo's room the first time, and then the next time you see it it's empty and "Sephiroth" has been killing everyone in the building. We later find out that the Sephiroth we've been chasing was Jenova's headless body in Sephiroth's form.

That's what FF7 fans have been doing to the original FF7 for 20+ years. The irony is that FF7:R is having to fight people's headcanon for what they thought the ORIGINAL plot and characters are. These are people who have created entire fanfictions just around one line of dialogue or claimed Cloud was an entirely different personality just off "let's mosey." So of course when the remake comes out and the characters/plot don't fit their headcanon, they're going to flip out.
But on top of that, the original and remake plot are both dumb on their own. Just like everything Nojima writes.

Besides that, there's WAY to much to cut to get to wheelchair in one part. Unless they actually pull it off. Like, with everything up to that point.
I'm convinced the third game will deviate A LOT from the events of the original, so there's certainly room for imagination. If they want Rebirth to end on a strong (and bitter) note, either taking Aerith or Cloud of action seems like the way to do it.

I understand that since they play after the death of the superjannies, it means that fate is no longer.

I mean, if Sephiroth actually summons Meteor then all that shit would need to happen anyway. The whole reason Aerith allowed herself to be killed was so that she could go into the Lifestream and basically convince the Planet not to exterminate all of humanity when Holy activated since it had come to see them as just as much a threat to its existence as Sephiroth or Jenova. Without Aerith dying to take control of Holy in the Lifestream and convince the Planet to spare humanity then it would just kill all the humans as well.

The remake is basically switching one kind of filler for another.
Considering the game isn't doing as well as they want in sales, they probably will just rush Episode 2 and 3. Meaning either tons of cut content or they'll rewrite the entire story to go in a new direction. Or both.

Fabula nova crystallis was supposed to be the big FF7 style universe like Ivalice. XII failed, they certainly don't have any faith for IX so being honest with you: Ivalice is safe. If IX gets touched it'll get a garbage AI upscaled port that runs worse. Ivalice also doesn't have that huge zoom zoom 35 and under audience that they really want to target, VIII does and VII did.
Your biggest concern is that they'd touch either X (if you're a gay and like that shit game) or VI because it's Kitase's other hit game which coincidentally is probably only actually good because it was also Ito's game
X has the audience the want, VI they could maybe get a bit of hype for but the money to market it to the playstationbabs that only played the Kitase/Hashimoto/Toriyama games probably isn't worth it.

They got 3 games because they had the engine, they had the assets and Toriyama could pump out a 2nd game fast and did the same for X beforehand. They were supposed to have Versus XIII in it's place but that entered development hell and they had no more Ivalice to pump out in the meantime. Type-0 was already just on the verge of coming out so they had a spot. No Kingdom Hearts because Nomura at the time was supposed to be making the OTHER XIII game.
Toriyama begged to make another game about his waifu and do it right this time then he, well he forgot to really put her in the game. So he went up to his ol' pal, his ol' buddy Kitase and said "how about another game for my perfect waifu" and Kitase looking at XIV's 1.0 failure, Type-0 being a PSP game, XIII versus being in development hell and having absolutely, not a fricking thing, nothing at all to release said "sure man, go for it".
I don't think we'd have ever got LR (the best in the trilogy let's be honest) if it wasn't for the CEO of SE demanding everyone use CT/Luminous engine, XIV flopping and Nomura fricking up. Square enix forgot they had to make video games and became a publisher at that time, crazy.

You need to think with the mind of a moron to embrace the stupidity of the studio that made FF13, FF13-2, Lightning Returns, and FF15.
There's a million ways you could make the story of FFVIII worse. You should be asking them to make it better. Which only takes one small change. Removing Rinoa.
It will probably get a Secret of Mana 2/Trials of Mana/SD3/whatever it's called style remake where it's just safe but uninspired with simple graphics. And while that at one point would seem shitty option when it could have been a full fleshed out remake, at this point it's probably for the best.

If they could actually figure out some way to transfer your shit from part 1 it would be cool be I dont see any realistic way they could as Red13 would be way weaker than everyone else who you levelled up in part 1 and it would just be a massive hassle to balance all the gear you have at end of part 1 and that thing you get that lets you start every battle with a limit break. So I expect them to not even address it at all and just start everyone off at like level 10 with default equipment/materia and there wil be no in lore reason given.
Mass Effect 2 actually had lore reasons for why you lost shit. You die in the beginning of 2 and you are under arrest at start of 3. And 2 starts you off at level 5 if you got to max level in mass effect 1 and 3 starts you off at the exact level you were when you beat 2.

I have a simple solution for losing 90% of your shit in Rebirth.
you reach Kalm, flashbacks happen (no equipment or stuff needed for this), you leave Kalm directly for Junon (skip all the chocobo and midgar zolom, that's not needed in this new version), and on the way there Yuffie steal and loses/sells all your shit, promises to pay it off by working for it. Thus, she's forced into the party. You start at level 30, bare minimum equipment, no materia. As you go through the game, you get chances to recover your lost/sold items.
it's literally her entire motivation as a character to steal things and give them to Wutai to make it strong.
This also sets up a way for the items to be scattered around the world by merchants later when they're not as powerful, or be given as rewards for end-game quests in Wutai, like the tower challenge.

It's probably the best of his games if I'm honest with you but it never lived up to IV, V, VI or IX for me.
Wasn't a huge fan of VII or VIII and X just really did hit for me. I think thematically it had a few really nice things going for it but the actual game that was there didn't do it for me. By the time they'd come out with X I'd already gotten my dick wet with other JRPG's and experienced other battle systems, dungeons and stories.
X is great if you're looking for an experience and it's "modern final fantasy" but it's not my final fantasy. Kitase and Toriyama really, really tried to push ATB forward and you see that in X, X-2 & XIII but it just didn't really feel like it had any meat to it compared to other turn based entries and when compared to SRPGs which were really starting to improve at the time: it just didn't hit for me.

But really, none of this even matters because the scene is fricked conceptually at this point no matter what they do. Cloud and co. are already walking around with endgame materia and shit, along with the fact that they already fricking killed the physical manifestation of destiny and fought off Sephiroth in outer space while he was flinging buildings and meteors at them. The game will contrive a reason for the party to suddenly lose their stats and materia to force them to be unable to kill a big snake, and it's gonna make the whole thing ring hollow.
I wouldn't mind plot changes... but they HAD to mess up Zack's death out of all things, didn't they? I wouldn't even mind if they changed Aerith's death, but why the frick change Zack's? Like, no one asked for this.
The chocobo ride will be a whole chase scene with manuvering and QTEs. When you complete it and the party is like "whew, we're safe", the zolom will burst out of the water, carried by Sephiroth. He continues to hover, arms outstretched, as the blood rains down upon him. As the shower stops, he chuckles slightly. "I'll see you soon," he says before rocketing into the sunset.

Speeding up random encounters is not about instant gratification, but about cutting down on the tedium. If you're strong enough to one- or two-shot encounters, why should you be forced to spend 20 seconds on each? You've nothing left to see or to prove for the time being.

The scene originally had normal red blood (and much compared to the final game). When people datamined the demo of the game they found the scene there and we all got our hopes up that they will show blood.
By the time the final game released the red blood was purple goo. So it's pretty obvious that they changed it because of PEGI or ESRB or Cero frickery.
XVI decided to go with an M rating and I feel like that's the best direction for FF games.
While you could get away with showing Blood and impaling and other such stuff in the 90s and still get a T-rating, times have changed and it has held FF back a lot.

That's what FF7 fans have been doing to the original FF7 for 20+ years. The irony is that FF7:R is having to fight people's headcanon for what they thought the ORIGINAL plot and characters are. These are people who have created entire fanfictions just around one line of dialogue or claimed Cloud was an entirely different personality just off "let's mosey." So of course when the remake comes out and the characters/plot don't fit their headcanon, they're going to flip out.
But on top of that, the original and remake plot are both dumb on their own. Just like everything Nojima writes.

I'm convinced the third game will deviate A LOT from the events of the original, so there's certainly room for imagination. If they want Rebirth to end on a strong (and bitter) note, either taking Aerith or Cloud of action seems like the way to do it.

Without Aerith dying to take control of Holy in the Lifestream and convince the Planet to spare humanity then it would just kill all the humans as well.

Fabula nova crystallis was supposed to be the big FF7 style universe like Ivalice. XII failed, they certainly don't have any faith for IX so being honest with you: Ivalice is safe. If IX gets touched it'll get a garbage AI upscaled port that runs worse. Ivalice also doesn't have that huge zoom zoom 35 and under audience that they really want to target, VIII does and VII did.
Your biggest concern is that they'd touch either X (if you're a gay and like that shit game) or VI because it's Kitase's other hit game which coincidentally is probably only actually good because it was also Ito's game
X has the audience the want, VI they could maybe get a bit of hype for but the money to market it to the playstationbabs that only played the Kitase/Hashimoto/Toriyama games probably isn't worth it.

They were supposed to have Versus XIII in it's place but that entered development hell and they had no more Ivalice to pump out in the meantime. Type-0 was already just on the verge of coming out so they had a spot. No Kingdom Hearts because Nomura at the time was supposed to be making the OTHER XIII game.
Toriyama begged to make another game about his waifu and do it right this time then he, well he forgot to really put her in the game. So he went up to his ol' pal, his ol' buddy Kitase and said "how about another game for my perfect waifu" and Kitase looking at XIV's 1.0 failure, Type-0 being a PSP game, XIII versus being in development hell and having absolutely, not a fricking thing, nothing at all to release said "sure man, go for it".
I don't think we'd have ever got LR (the best in the trilogy let's be honest) if it wasn't for the CEO of SE demanding everyone use CT/Luminous engine, XIV flopping and Nomura fricking up. Square enix forgot they had to make video games and became a publisher at that time, crazy.

If they could actually figure out some way to transfer your shit from part 1 it would be cool be I dont see any realistic way they could as Red13 would be way weaker than everyone else who you levelled up in part 1 and it would just be a massive hassle to balance all the gear you have at end of part 1 and that thing you get that lets you start every battle with a limit break. So I expect them to not even address it at all and just start everyone off at like level 10 with default equipment/materia and there wil be no in lore reason given.

Mass Effect 2 actually had lore reasons for why you lost shit. You die in the beginning of 2 and you are under arrest at start of 3. And 2 starts you off at level 5 if you got to max level in mass effect 1 and 3 starts you off at the exact level you were when you beat 2.

I have a simple solution for losing 90% of your shit in Rebirth.
you reach Kalm, flashbacks happen (no equipment or stuff needed for this), you leave Kalm directly for Junon (skip all the chocobo and midgar zolom, that's not needed in this new version), and on the way there Yuffie steal and loses/sells all your shit, promises to pay it off by working for it. Thus, she's forced into the party. You start at level 30, bare minimum equipment, no materia. As you go through the game, you get chances to recover your lost/sold items.

it's literally her entire motivation as a character to steal things and give them to Wutai to make it strong.
This also sets up a way for the items to be scattered around the world by merchants later when they're not as powerful, or be given as rewards for end-game quests in Wutai, like the tower challenge.

It's probably the best of his games if I'm honest with you but it never lived up to IV, V, VI or IX for me.
Wasn't a huge fan of VII or VIII and X just really did hit for me. I think thematically it had a few really nice things going for it but the actual game that was there didn't do it for me. By the time they'd come out with X I'd already gotten my dick wet with other JRPG's and experienced other battle systems, dungeons and stories.
X is great if you're looking for an experience and it's "modern final fantasy" but it's not my final fantasy. Kitase and Toriyama really, really tried to push ATB forward and you see that in X, X-2 & XIII but it just didn't really feel like it had any meat to it compared to other turn based entries and when compared to SRPGs which were really starting to improve at the time: it just didn't hit for me.

Replaying it because of 60fps mod I found out about recently + some other Texture mods + real time shadows.
Other than appearance (fps, shadows, textures, upscaled 30fps fmvs), everything is vanilla.
I don't mind the original graphics at all. But the mods are the reason I'm CURRENTLY replaying it. Also thought about the New Threat mod. Maybe afterwards.

How do you replace the music? I have 7th heaven installed. There is a music folder, but all the filenames differ from the mega zip.

Speeding up random encounters is not about instant gratification, but about cutting down on the tedium. If you're strong enough to one- or two-shot encounters, why should you be forced to spend 20 seconds on each? You've nothing left to see or to prove for the time being.
Cutting down the tedium of what? Waiting 2 seconds for enemies to appear, selecting attack, waiting for the attack and then looking at the post battle screen?
