The dungeons themselves wouldn't be openworld you know. Even if the rest of the game is devoid of level design it'd be nice to have dungeons.

You know what Nintendo did to dungeons in BotW and TotK right? Gamefreak could do that as nonsense as it might make the dungeon

    They would be dungeons.
It’s not like having a third dimension would be breaking new ground for Pokemon.

I remember people being upset this wasn’t some spooky dungeon. Sucks it wasn’t considering how bare the original Wild Area was. Don’t get me wrong I had fun in the wild area but the lack of dungeons hurt

Just a boring brown, straight corridor like in all modern 3d games.

The dungeons get randomly generated each time you enter.
Random items from a pool determined by the type of the dungeon get scattered around the floor.
Evil Pokémons roam the dungeon and try to murder the shit out of you.
You need to find the stairs to get to the next level of the dungeon.

the pathetic grooming troon tripgay aside,
they should work like in the old 3D games which actually made use of 3D space.

Which 3D games? I remember gen 1 having dungeons for both Articuno and Zapdos you could realistically skip (they weren’t necessarily needed to complete the game unless you were going for filling the Pokédex) gen 4 also had these side dungeon things If I remember correctly.

Randomly generated isn’t the worst idea but I think it wouldn’t work for every dungeon. Maybe a boss battle high level Pokémon at the end? If they ever bring shadow Pokémon into mainline games the boss would work as a shadow mon

    >Pokemon: BotW.
    >Open world, you the reader can decide how that would be balanced because we know Game Freak never could.
    >Can only have like two or three Pokemon, this gets upped as you get more badges.
    >Pokemon "stamina" that doesn't affect battle at all but you have to do survival mode and rest after it battles too much.
    >This feeds into hunting/buying food and cooking/camp making skills and higher quality camping items.
    >Captures that Season 1 feel.
    >Dungeons are tied to story progression so you actually have to go to Frickoff Cave because Dr. Tree told you the Mega Macguffinite stone is there.
    >Need things to light up the dark, Pokemon to traverse crevices and underwater rivers.
    >Dark and you have to search, but it's like Luigi's Mansion where it's a cute kind of horror and just an hourish of spelunking so it's not Water Temple-tier.
    >Get spooped in one dungeon.
    >Just a Mimikyu being spoopy.
    >Still find a kawaii underground Diglet community doing what appears to be a Diglet play of Macbeth or someshit.
And that's just one flavor of dungeon. You could do some cool stuff where one ties into the older movies that have ancient Pokehistory vibes.

Skyrim/Dark Souls renaissance of Shitmon never ever. The japs in their Nintendo/Gamefreak offices should commit sudoku.

In a 3D open-world-style Pokemon game, dungeons could work in a similar way to how they do in 2D titles. They could be implemented as large, labyrinth-like areas filled with enemies and puzzles to solve. The added depth of the 3D space would allow for more creativity in designing the dungeons, which could add a lot of variety and visual interest. Dungeon navigation could involve vertical elements such as cliffs and ledges, and it could be possible to see and explore dungeons from various vantage points. Overall, dungeons could be made fresh and enjoyable in a 3D open world Pokemon game if well designed.
