The game was actually fully translated but Atlus the team didn't release it because of the 3DS version coming out. Also I was following the project and it's a mess to do because it's basically a saturn game being emulated on a psx.

What the? How is that possible the Saturn and psx are the same strength ? I just want to play it on a CRT as god intended it

Dunno I remeber the dude that was responsible for putting the translation in that it was the biggest hurdle as the translation was done very fast but the code that ran the game was just jumbled garbage.

          yeah, I remeber

Why not just do the Saturn original instead?
Anyway I would just play the game in japanese, as I assume OP already played the 3DS version so he already knows the story and game mechanics

The psx version had more content at the time. I think it still does.

Well 3DS has even more anyway.
I'd say, play Saturn for the most original experience on a CRT, and 3DS for most content and best gameplay.

The 3DS version is definitive anyway because it just runs faster without as much menu and other lag the original Saturn and PS1 versions had, plus some minor quality of life.

nobody is going to admit this for a single game that made it to 3DS. despite how good they all are.

Are there major differences between the Saturn and DS versions? I've only played DS but really like it. It's ironically one of the reasons I bought a Saturn, seeing all sorts of stuff about it in Newtype and I was sure it would come over... lol

Also there is a effort to put the 3ds translation into the saturn version here

PS1 SMT1&2 look weird, low quality 3d mazes with stretched out 2D sprites. The music quality is better on PS1 but the GBA versions have more content and they look more coherent.

Really? I played a little of 1 and the sprites look great to me.

This is a very poorly stealthed Soul Hackers thread, which is very based and liminal space-pilled.
    Saturn version notes:
    >Original release of the game
    >Sequel to a game that was a Saturn exclusive until a much later PSP rerelease
    >Extra dungeon disc was a mail-in item that is very rare and expensive nowadays
    >Extra dungeon disc just reads your main game save file from wherever you are in the game and doesn't have any feature to swap back to the original disc during play so it's more like an expansion disc than a second disc
    PS1 version notes:
    >Has wobbly rendering for 3D effects as was common at the time
    >Extra disc content is now built in
    >Has PocketStation minigame for raising another character
    3DS version notes:
    >Has everything built in like the PS1 version
    >PocketStation features replaced with Nemechi who grows with StreetPass and play coins
    >Additional super bosses
    >Using ice attacks might freeze the game
    >If you don't change your character name on new game plus the game freaks out and becomes unplayable
    >Voice acted Nemissa turned men into cucks who commissioned BBC-centric fan art of her
Wish I lere lying about the last three.

I never had any freeze game myself (and played thousands of hours), and I used the same name for the NG+ no problem.
No idea about that last one, wat.

        >I never had any freeze game myself (and played thousands of hours), and I used the same name for the NG+ no problem.
Huh. Maybe a patch dropped at some point or the issue is random in some way.
        >No idea about that last one, wat.
Yeah, neither did I and I stepped into /smtg/ for the first time in years only to be bombarded by Nemissa BBC porn and posters larping as schizophrenic using Reddit spacing and no capitalization. Truly horrendous shit not even Lucifer would use.

          >Maybe a patch dropped at some point or the issue is random in some way.
The 3DS originally didn't have a system for patching games. They probably would have said "frick you, do a recall you wankers" like old school nintendo, but then big N fricked up their own game and so a patching system mysteriously became available...
