How would you design a battle frontier that is actually fun with 5 facilities that aren't hyper gimmick shit?

Simple, you fricking don’t
take the emerald one then delete the battle palace and battle dome
wow that was easy
Battle Dome is the best one though
His implication is that the Battle Dome's gimmick is inconsequential to the player's experience. It's cool in theory but in practice is just another Battle Tower but shorter, because it has no actual gimmick aside from the tournament structure.
>Battle Tower (duh)
>Battle Factory (no shit)
>Battle Pike
>Battle Pyramid
>Battle Castle
>Battle Hall
Plus a new one.
how about factory but you are FORCED to swap out a Pokemon in your team with one of your opponent's previous Pokemon?
you should already be doing this unless you want an initial selection of turdmons in the next round
How does that work?
How?
more trades mid-game nets you higher-tier mons in the next game's starting pool. you don't absolutely *need* to trade every single time, but the skips can add up. the impact starts to be apparent in the third and fourth games
pike and pyramid are redundant
>game freak
>making battle facilities
Enjoy mt battle in indigo disk
just tower and factory the rest can frick off
I think the Castle/Pyramid had the right idea of introducing a facility that functioned more like a dungeon crawl where you needed to survive multiple battles without heals.
>regular, by-the-book battle tower
>battle factory
>battle pyramid-like facility (something involving wild pokemon and dungeon crawling)
>rotation battle facility
>inverse battle facility
Every facility supports singles, doubles, super singles, and super doubles.
That's the thing dude, you can't. You eityher make a game based around 5 facilities and flesh each out marrying them into one, or you shove them full of hyper gimmick shit to act as side entertainment in your kiddy moncap game.
There's no one or the other here which is why GF didn't try and change what they were and eventually culled them when you could click a few buttons and battle a fleshbag in-game wherever you were in the world (as long as it had internet)..
A monotype facility where... yeah, you use monotype teams.
The challenge comes when you face a team super effective against you.
This was the best part of SwSh
The monotype facility was fricking stupid, there was zero challenge you just went till you ran out of PP
SwSh had a monotype facility????
you already got a battle tower in every game since crystal
except SV, you have to pay extra for it
There won't be a Battle Tower in the DLC Anon
just heard the rumors
hilarious if true
platinum already did it
platinum’s facilities are shit
battle palace and battle arcade are literally just easier versions of the battle tower
i'm not a completionist, so the wacky gimmicks are what draws me to the frontier. just make sure they aren't shit like the palace or arena.
Ever played Stadium, Stadium 2, or Battle Revolution? That's a good start.
This. Want to keep me interested? Do something that you don't see in typical battles.
Emerald had the perfect level of complexity. Nothing comes close to the depth and replay value…
Battle Tower is standard battles, and you have an apprentice for multi battles
Factory Rental Mode
Battle Arena, the no switching and Judgement system gives every Pokémon 3 turn limit to win
Battle Dome is a cool Tournament mode where everyone can read each others team, like the anime
Pyramid is a lite dungeon crawler
Palace, your Pokemon fights based on its nature and you have to prep them beforehand
Pike is rolling a dice and hoping you don’t get statused before fighting Lucy. Sort of redundant, the Pyramid has similar mechanics but I like Lucy
Battle Arcade however IS just a better Battle Pike without the rooms.
Battle Hall is a fun idea, but too many NFE Pokémon flood the game board
>Battle frontier
>Fun
Battling is literally an autism simulator. Its not supposed to be fun, its supposed to be rewarding and 2 bp every 7 matches when the smallest things cost 5 bp is not rewarding.
why are you a pokemon fan then, homosexual?
If it has to be 5:
>Tower
>Factory
>Pyramid
>Hall
>Palace
Basically, I think that each facility require a team that can do slightly different things, Platinum's frontier can end up a bit iffy in how many of the facilities feel like they are beaten in the same way to me.
Also no NFE early stages that shit is REALLY boring. But also reduce the number of victories for Battle hall from 10 to 7 because it gets really tedious.
No fans of the battle hall in here? 1v1 can be a pretty fun mode. Probably one of the most innovative in terms of sets.
I like it but it can get a bit tedious. It's fun to sort of strategize what types to fight first to manage risk and get the scary types out of the way first. It also has this big replay-ability aspect to it with clearing it with different pokemon but I feel like this isn't really capitalized on as well as it could be (and how long it takes to do a full clear doesnt help)
I'd divide it into formats. No crazy gimmicks.
>singles
>doubles
>factory
>monotype
>LC
Simple. Unique themes and a leader to each.
Give every facility a multiplayer mode
Except pyramid, that would turn into a race mode
>SV has zero battle facilities
>SWSH has at least 2 if you don’t count dynamax adventures which is like a coop facility.
Even if the battle tower is bad due to only having one trainer that is guaranteed to always use charizard as their dynamax, its still kinda sad to think that SV doesn’t have any facilities and likely won’t have any.
Cope, the DLC will have 10 Battle Frontiers
God I wish anon
They could have at least made it into the DLC
I don't get why
I mean they made the hardest Battle Facility in BDSP, just do that again
They really are just trying to remove every element they can, I think they've decided to more or less just reduce things down to just catching as the central element of the franchise due to Go's success and cut everything else.
Though maybe I one-sidedly see it that way since I never had any interest in catching lots of pokemon and preferred to only catch a few that I intended to actually use in battles (or contests), and with each new game I'm given less and less reason to actually boot it up after seeing credits. Didn't even bother with most of the event distributions for SwSh or the ones for SV so far.
The SV exp curve makes that very clear. Even the classic idea of sticking to the same team of 6 Pokemon throughout the entire game is not the way they want you to play, you get so much EXP that you'll completely overlevel if you do that.
They intend you to constantly catch new Pokemon and cycle them into your team, all the time.
Absolutely soulless.
full-fledged Battle Maison/Tower with every previous battle mode including Inverse and Battle Royal
Battle Factory that also has every battle type
Battle Pyramid
Restricted Sparring, also has a random mode
Battle Dome
SV won’t have a battle facility and all you will get at best is a gauntlet of trainers that give exp. Cope battle tower gays
The regular ones like doubles and singles and such.
Mystery Dungeon facility
Expanded Pokeathlon
Contests
Bug Catching competition
Yeah it's a bunch of shit that should be in the main game, but the battle frontier versions should be special in some way besides being harder. Make it day based and shove in all the npcs people like to point at.
>those are all hyper gimmick shit
Frick you.
Imagine hating Gimmicks for your Frontier. That shit gives me life.
Except the Battle Palace that place sucks ass.
i really prefer restricted sparring where you have to ration your heals over a shorter gauntlet and would like that to become the standard for this kind of thing.
First two are the ones that are pretty obvious,
>Battle Tower
>Battle Factory
Next we have the gimmicky format ones, so I'd take:
>Battle Hall, which was my personal favourite
>Battle Dome, which also behaves sort of like the PWT or Crystal Colosseum in PBR
With the exception of multi battles in the Hall, everything in these sets would allow for singles, doubles, and multi battles. This next set would be singleplayer and singles only due to their nature
>Battle Pyramid
>Battle Arcade
>Mt. Battle style gauntlet challenge
Mt battle can be singles and doubles, its basically just a battle tower that lets you change your team order and items.
Pokemon shitters are too stupid nowdays for an actual battle facility, and without all the moves/pokemon it would be horribly one sided anyways
Just play older games
But Gimmicks are fun...
1. Tower: You know how this works, 4 Modes like Alola Battle tree, Single/Double and Unrestricted/Restricted, in fact put those modes as available for all the Facillities)
2. Factory: You know the drill, Rentals.
3. Safari (Auto-Battle, but you get the opportunity to tweak your moves and items between each battle, Gimmicky but should work well now that we have the "Forget/Relearn moves anywhere" system.)
4. Ordeal: 3(you) VS 6 (Opponent) matches, explicitly unbalanced on purpose as the selling, possibly with shenanigans between rounds.
5. Restricted Sparring.
6. Bonus Round Max Adventures, Slow as molasses but fun and good catchup mechanic to get (Legendary) mons to use in the other zones and they should go in a Frontier Area as a Facility if they return IMO even though it obviously isn't a Facillity in the same sense aside from using "Rentals"
Honestly i could go on and on about bringing back Pike and Castle and other old ones too and i'd also honestly want Triple and Rotation battles come back, but i don't think they should be tied to a sole Battle Facility if they do, it is bad enough that the game is such a fricking pussy about Double Battles in the main campaign when they are the official competitive format.
Im basically fully resigned to the possibility of not even getting a Battle Tower in SV now.
Rental battle
>you know how this works
Speed battle
>you have a max amount of time per battle and in the entire facility, going over or under time in a battle removes or adds time. Optional maze mode.
Type specialist
>all teams must have at least 2 pokémon of the required type and all three must have at least one move of the required type
>optional banning of a specific type
Battle world tower
>a more configurable battle tower with tournament options and modifiers available
Battle Royale
>starting with one pokémon a big room with a bunch of other players/NPCs also with one pokémon
>NPCS are a mix of the weakest and strongest so there's no telling how strong the opponent is
>victory allows you to choose one of the opponents pokémon
>on a timer, the amount of NPCs will reduce and their parties will increase by one
>be the last man standing
Battle Tree Multi-team battles was so fun with friends. I wish they had more infinite battles modes instead being forced to play Genie Meta on ladder. Best time to play competitive is in the early seasons and that didn't even last long because they allowed ruin mons in early.
