We definitely need more buttons, this should be the main focus. At least two more on the back, maybe six front buttons instead of four (ABXY). Maybe four main buttons and two smaller auxiliary buttons, like the Black and White buttons on the original Xbox controller.
Gyro should be standard. The touch screen is a great idea, but not the way Sony does it; it should supplement – or even replace – the right analog stick. Similar to the Steam Deck.
Oh, and if they could come up with a standard for "OK" and "Cancel," it would be great. Looking at you, Nintendo.
Last but not least, : why is it so hard to make controllers that don't fall apart after a year or two?
Personally I don't care about rumble at all, they could remove it entirely as far as I'm concerned. Same with analog triggers: they only make sense for racing games, they are shit for any other genre.
I'll raise you one:

make them just werk as an xinput controller outside of steam
>just use ds4windows
no, frick off, vigembus regularly breaks usb keyboard input and requires a reinstall
Hall effect sticks. Make them into ergonomic split controllers with wired and wireless modes. Replace the right stick with a touchpad.
Xinput is an obsolete API. It doesn't have support for any more axes or buttons than are present on the Xbox controller. It's better to abandon it for the meme that it is and then use compatibility tools for everything that fell for the meme. Forcing it on to future games is an atrocity.
>Xinput is an obsolete API
I hate it too, but everything supports it. I don't want to have to use another application just to play games outside steam with a PS5 controller.
Trying to corral you into thinking you have no options and that nothing else is supported is a Microsoft EEE tactic. Just use compatibility tools and complain about it to shit developers who insist on it. The emergence of gyro as a valid input and controllers with a greater quantity of buttons, sticks, etc being very well received has pretty much exposed Xinput as being garbage, it does not have enough versatility to compete anymore and should be put to death.
While this is probably not what that anon meant, Xinput simply does not support the same breadth of inputs that Dinput does, so it is not 1:1 compatible with controllers that have differing layouts.
>Just use compatibility tools
No - as I said, ds4windows isn't reliable software.
I was using my dualsense with Cemu (which supports it natively)k, so I had ds4windows set to not emulate any input while Cemu was running.
Cemu crashed, and it completely broke USB input outside of my mouse. Even across restarts, I couldn't use my keyboard anymore, and the controller was left in a "disconnecting" state that would never finish.
The only fix was uninstallying vigembus completely.
You could just run CEMU through Steam or switch to Linux.
You missed the point there. Cemu supports a DS5 controller natively, which is why I disabled ds4windows when it was running (using the auto profiles feature).
But then why would you keep it running? I assumed that you were using it for something.
For convenience? The whole point of the auto profiles thing is so that you don't have to keep restarting it.
>make them just werk as an xinput controller outside of steam
Xinput is a horrendous API kept purposefully obsolete to match with microshit's equally obsolete pads, inferior to Dinput in every way (so naturally they made it incompatible with it)
SDL should've been the standard since the moment of its inception but that would highlight Xbpx pads being utter shit straight from the stone age so we can't have that
>(so naturally they made it incompatible with it)
xinput isn't "incompatible" with directinput, makes no sense as a statement. it's like saying a chevy car is incompatible with a dodge car. you can't drive both at once.
Games made for one interface are incompatible with the other, either not working at all or incorrect behavior. Former is acceptable and had it been made by humans a simple remap could fix the latter, but they purposefully chose shit like changing triggers from having 0 as the neutral state to having the midpoint of the variable.
>Games made for one interface are incompatible with the other
False, simply not how it works. You don't understand the basic computer science part of how these input APIs actually work and are implemented. sorry bro.
>False, simply not how it works.
Try playing just about anything from the past 10 years without an Xinput wrapper then, surely it'll behave as it should and not how I described it then.
doesn't win the argument for you, even if it doesn't work
not understanding how something works is not understanding how something works. if you hit a nail with a frozen banana 500 times and it goes into a board, you did not "invent a new hammer"
>no ure wrong
Isn't an argument either, nor does it change the fact that Xinput is piece of shit that should've been buried years ago.
we aren't having an argument. When i'm telling you you're wrong I'm doing just that-- I'm TELLING you that you're wrong and don't understand what you're talking about.
There isn't a back-and-forth required here. My speech designates that you are wrong to properly educated third parties.
Your generation struggles with this a lot. It is not relativized. You do not have a "competing" perspective. Your "view" does not have "value". you are just wrong.
Yes, you're TELLING me that without providing a single reason to believe it other than it is you, the expert, who's telling it. I'm not averse to being wrong, it happens a lot, but I'm gonna need more than a homosexual stating so to be convinced.
Octagonal gate that are removable, with specifically screws. So that you can attach a aluminum plate. Dpads that are not attached. Hall effects instead of potentiometers. Fully white controller. Maybe a small fan to make them colder potentially, worth it for minor comfort. Optional weight packs. A way to change the triggers from being digital or analog? Probably with a special tool making the button travel shorter. More button choice with different grips. Cup holder. A loving dad.
>rounder grips
>better color scheme options
>LR pairs ergonomically angled downward slightly
>backlit buttons
>swappable button caps
>replaceable joystick thumb parts so you can make your shit handheld stubby or Gamecube's C nipple
>swappable left stick and left d-pad
>no fuss 2.4GHz/BT cooperation with any OS
those homies got nothing on my boy picrel
he literally piloting submarines 'n shieet
>they didn't know about the deadzones
ngmi
>stick drift into the titanic wreckage
oh no no no
Why do I see pic related so often lately? Did something happen or ist it just a good controller?
Probably the best budget controller on the market, I recommend
>wired
>quality components, magnetic sticks, nice triggers, mechanical buttons, what have you
>symmetrical sticks
>good D-pad
All I want
>Playstation
Doesn't feel the best in the hand, a bit narrow and the battery life is dog shit. Touch pad is a gimmick.
>Xbox
Needs rechargable battery for that price, the triggers could have more resistance, the d-pad isn't the best and the share button should be remappable
>Switch Pro
Needs analog triggers and a size increase. The face buttons are shallow and the stick drift problems are very real.
Shape - Xbox
Battery - Switch
Sticks - Xbox
Face Buttons - Playstation
Triggers/Shoulder - Playstation
D-Pad - Playstation
Connectivity/Compatibility - Xbox
Layout - Nintendo
forgot to add gyro - switch
>Needs rechargable battery for that price
AA batteries is superior to rechargeable batteries and you children being stupid will never change this.
Bit rude, but yes I do like that I have the option of buying a rechargeable pack separate for Xbox controller or just using good batteries. The Elite battery is very nice though, good 35 hours on full charge.
I don't mind more buttons and pressure sensitive buttons. The touchpad must fricking go.
There are less moronic ways to do it. You might as well bring back the IR sensor of the wiimote..
A well-placed touchpad is still better than using the right stick for camera control.
>You might as well bring back the IR sensor of the wiimote.
It's not as good when you can't user your arms independently from one another, the necessary movement would be a lot more awkward.
>touchpad
>gyro
>back buttons
>native pc suppourt
there is no reason for this not to exist with current tech.
I dont see the point of a touchpad, unless you really want fingerprint recognition for account safety or something
mouse emulation
How do I press on the D-pad without eventually cramping my thumb?
>shitbox
would be hard not to
I don't often use a controller but I totally would if it came with a gyro
take dualsense
remove all the homosexual adaptive shit no game uses
make the battery bigger
hall effect sticks and triggers
make the d-pad slightly stiffer
add 2-4 back paddles by standard so that games can actually be made with them in mind
here's your perfect controller
I would make them dualshock 2s, the last good controller.
I would make a tablet, play on an oculus rift, wait they make those right.
Remove the share button. Death to all social media.
Frick your virtual game achievements, they are worthless, meaningless and not a single frick is given from anyone about them.
You're a moron, I use thr share button for screenshots and clips for myself, like I've been doing on PC since forever
The onions is oozing out of your pores.
moron
I like to watch all the screenshots and clips I took after I finished a viddy game.
>Xbox
Gyro.
Attach a submarine
Atomic Purple
I would love to get one of these without having to worry about the possibility of it breaking in just a couple of weeks because of stick drift
>Dualsense
Just go back to the DS4 with a secure usb-c connection for wired. Literally a perfectly good controller with no need for improvement design wise.
>Xbone
Only sell the version with the real d-pad or just make the core a power fusion 2 the standard xbone controller.
Mechanical face buttons rather than the rubber membranes
Hall sensor analogue sticks
Quickchange thumbstick rubber that don't need the faceplate removed to switch out
Backplate buttons
Quickchange rechargeable batteries
Regular Phillips screws
Shell that's easy to clean the gunk out of
No meme lights that kill the battery
Regular 3.5mm headphone jack
stop stick drifts.
my xbox dualssense and joycons drift.
I hate it
I just got a PS5 and boy are these triggers stupid. I turned off this dumb effect almost instantly. Why would they think me feeling like my trigger is broken would somehow be immersive? What a fricking miss that was. Do people actually like this? Why would I want resistance on any of the triggers / buttons?
They wanted to copy xbox but did a worse job at it.
Oh is that an Xbox thing too? I have a Xbox lab controller but I only ever use it on PC. I assume it's a pro controller thing or something?
No it was a feature of the original xbone too. It's kinda cool in Forza but it's very mild and you don't really notice it after a while.
Back pedals should be mandatory.
Black and white buttons should be mandatory
Soulless
No, I mean black and white buttons
I don't think it looks practical especially in that position. It could work if they are right or left of bumpers though. Or maybe add a third layer of bumpers?
>snoy and Black personbox controllers
the snitch pro controller is better
simple as…
>How would you improve them? CAN you improve them?
Delete them from existence. All gamepads are equally bad. Use KBM or frick off.
