you can play quake right now, its called quake champions. you don't play it because you don't actually enjoy quake MP you just enjoy the memories you had of it as a kid.
this is the part where you say quake champs isn't real quake because the characters have abilities.
Quake Champion is shit. They turned Quake kino into a live service slop. People do like fps arena games but QC still flops, that tells how bad it is.
Live Service is fine and is the only way to give a modern multiplayer game solid longevity.
Champions sucked because it chased the hero shooter trend and was still too early in the live service trend to know what it was doing
godot would be crazy because iirc it just exports the entire project as text meaning you can just throw it back into godot and edit it same as the devs
maybe was fixed i dunno

Quake + Phantom Dust
Items spawns are replaced with card spawns. Everyone can see your load out and can infer what card type you want to go after. Add in a secondary objective that spawns in tandem with powerful items so the dominating player has to pick between weapon or objective. Have that secondary objective be something like "collect 3 of these in a round and you win". This gives shitters hope they can win through collecting them and or give them the ability to safely get power ups without getting stomped since the other player is on the opposite side of the map
1. Have single player modes, both a campaign and a bot mode. Newbies need these to get familiar with the guns/some mechanics.
2. Have it filled with content on release. No more of this "we only have 8 maps and two gamemodes" thing. Create content.
3. Make sure the engine isn't a piece of shit like Quake Champions. We don't need parkinsons LG anymore.
4. Eventually come up with a good ladder system and ELO system once the community figures out which maps work with each gamemode.
Now when it comes to match making vs dedicated servers, I think that match making is better for noobs, while dedicated servers/custom servers are better for experienced players.
Live service makes any game guaranteed horseshit.
Non-live service games only contain a single development team's worth of hatred for their players, whereas a live service game can have an infinite number of dev hatred accumulate in it over time.
The problem is all the pro players wipe the floor with newcomers so the newcomers never really manage to learn anything because they're staring more at the respawn timer than actually playing the game
>The problem is all the pro players wipe the floor
because despite what arena shooter 'fans' on Ganker want to believe, the genre died because its almost exclusively about memorizing item/powerup spawn times and thats fricking boring.
Frick quake.
I want unreal tournament back with its rat maps, custom dedicated servers, and active modding scene
Bring that era back, I want it back so bad
I wouldn't
Progression system. Skins. Brighter maps. Slower gameplay. Easy bots to farm for xp.
Not possible
Focus it around killing Black folk
Quake Champions, but remove the hero shooter horseshit and improve performance for lower end machines.

so close
I have 300+ hours in QC. I stopped playing when it got hard to find matches and duel wasn't my thing
too late.
the era of high IQ arena shooters is over

Basically just release a completed game.
How would you integrate live service elements to keep the modern zoomers attention, but without ruining the game?
Live service makes any game guaranteed horseshit.
Non-live service games only contain a single development team's worth of hatred for their players, whereas a live service game can have an infinite number of dev hatred accumulate in it over time.
Name it something else and call it a "spiritual successor", also it must have console support or the troons wont play it
The problem is all the pro players wipe the floor with newcomers so the newcomers never really manage to learn anything because they're staring more at the respawn timer than actually playing the game
It's not that bad if you funnel the newcomers into team modes. Quake Champions was filled with noobs around 2018.
>The problem is all the pro players wipe the floor

Why is it boring?
because the game is decades old and that is STILL the meta. you're now going to get mad that i said meta.
As opposed to what? It's boring because a game doesn't completely change everything annually?
encourage mod support
No classes.
Fast.
That's it. Just let me play instagib freeze tag and we good.
You can even sell some fricking hats to sate the corpos.
quakes multiplayer was only great because a trillion modders were allowed free reign
I would rebrand it as GTA Call of duty:Fortnite edition featuring Minecraft.
just add skill based matchmaking to Quake 3, put in cutting edge graphics and implement all the maps from every Quake game.
there I did your job for you
*throws mic*
Zero longevity
>less than 800 24 hour peak
Jesus Champions is rough rn
I wouldn't. Arena shooters are dead. Frick them.
Frick quake.

Epic has so much money now that they could probably develop and support a new Unreal game at a complete loss for a few years. I want it too.
Make it a battle royale, or whats dated now, make it an extraction shooter.
