Same. I don't know if Malon would fit either really, he left Hyrule and ended up in Termina while he was still Young Link so he probably wouldn't go to Termina, come back to Hyrule, and so on. Malon in the continuity of the Child Timeline probably does know Link but I don't think he'd know him overly well since he wouldn't have a grand adventure in Hyrule to go on that she'd help with.

Malon having a minimal role in Link's grand adventure is actually part of the reason I think she's his more likely endgame. I believe what sets Time apart from so many other Links (and what I also thinks makes him the most interesting) is an element of tragedy to forcing a 9-10 year old child, the youngest any Link has ever been, to be expected to save the world because destiny called early. He's forced to leave an isolated forest haven into a cruel world, take on challenges that'd make most adults shit themselves, and even made to give up seven of his most informative years just so he can be physically strong enough to even hold the Master Sword. Even Zelda feels burdened with guilt at what Link's gone through and makes a sacrifice to give Link back the childhood he lost, and I think with how prevalent the 'Song of Healing' is in Majora's Mask the idea is here that Link has had his adventure, it's left its scars, and now he needs to take it easy and live peacefully so he can fully rest.

Malon, IMO, represents a better avenue for Link to do that than Zelda, whom if he married would surely not only keep him fighting but more than likely would end up with him with more responsibility than ever after everything he's been through. I also think Zelda would represent too much of the burdens he already carried throughout his adventure when the point of her sending him back was to give him (and Hyrule) a better life.

I also think this more likely to have had the consequences that make themselves known in Twilight Princess. Living a peaceful farmer's life would have provided the healing Link needed, but it'd also be a much more likely that Link would later develop regrets for not having anyone to pass down his skills as a warrior to anyone (the need for a warrior on a ranch is probably minimal) or not being remembered as the great hero he was in the Future timeline, if he laid low in the countryside.

If you subscribe to the “all in Link’s mind” theory for Majora’s Mask. The fact that there are two Malon’s in Termina, each with a quest line where he gets to be her hero could mean something. Especially when paired with what the Gossip Stones say about her in OoT.

Zelinkgay, please. OoT Link and Zelda have nothing but a working relationship. The Link x Zelda romances are in SS, WW/PH, ST, with a deliberately vague if you want to believe one in BotW/TotK. Maybe something happens in AoL but that's also the only link to visit a prostitute.

This for me. And I don't mean that to downplay their relationship or Zelda's role in the slightest. OoT is also the best Zelda by far, I think she has an amazing arc of being an over-eager child who wants to save the world, pulls Link into her plans, both try to take on too much as children and it ends disastrously with Ganondorf playing them and Zelda needing to spend the next several years training and taking an active role in helping Link find the temples and re-taking her Kingdom. And it ends with one of the most beautiful, heartfelt scenes I've ever seen in a video game where Zelda wants to take responsibility for forcing Link to give up years of his life by sending him back to live them out, even knowing it means never seeing him again. They share a very deep bond, not just because of the Spirit/Goddess thing but because they both went through their own kinds of trauma with good intentions in mind and came out for it forever changed together. I think a life with Zelda as gallant knight or king isn't what Link needed or deserved after what he went through, or what Zelda gave up to see he could heal.

tl;dr as far as OoT goes, I think Zelda is Link's 'work wife' and Malon is his 'home wife'

Link was NEVER going to give up against Skull Kid and just let himself get vaporized, he was after the Ocarina because the Happy Mask Salesman said he could cure him if he took it back. That memory was relevant because it was a memory of Zelda teaching him the Song of Time, which is what he needed in the moment to save himself.

Seriously? Why? He has no reason to steal Epona, the only reason he technically did so in the first place was because Ingo tried to trap him in the Ranch. Ingo is not in charge of the Ranch when Link/Malon are children and never will be because Ganondorf never comes into power to put him in charge.
