It's nice if you want to own a house. I can't imagine paying someone else's mortgage or living in some fricking building full of losers

        Anonymous

You buy shit on credit that you could buy without credit, then you pay it on time. You built up a credit score over time so you can get a car or a house with reasonable interest rates instead of getting fricked by having no credit. This is risk free because any credit card debt you pay on time will accrue no interest, so it's the exact same as buying it without credit except you build up your score and possibly get some rewards too.

You should get a card as soon as possible, and only use it to buy things you need that you could afford today. Never use it to buy shit you can't pay for in the exact moment you make the transaction, and you'll never pay a dime in interest. There's no reason not to do it.

        Anonymous

I do it all the time. Buy stuff on interest free credit. It costs me literally nothing, my savings account and pension grow at the same rate as before, I get the thing I want, and my credit rating improves over time. I don't want to stop putting money in the mortgage fund or the pension, and I don't mind small nuggets of interest free debt. I certainly don't want to spend savings

        Anonymous

not sure why people think credit is an evil invention if you know how to use it and how to use it right it can be beneficial, Always treat it like a debit card, don't spend what you can't payback/ afford. Plus if you open a new account they usually do 15 or so months no apr so even if you can't make a full payment a partial one isn't going to put you in debt just NEVER not pay it and have a late fee it fricks with your credit score 10x worse. Also be weary of utilization

the fundamental problem is that soldering together a motherboard of your own design isn't something you can do, which means that to even start, you need to get a motherboard from a laptop, which means you're just going to be buying a real laptop, then shoving its guts into some shitty case you made at home.

Your biggest issue is going to be sourcing parts. Laptop OEMs don't use standard formats like desktops do, so you'd need to source your parts first and design your chassis around that. There's also the issue that your 3D printed chassis is going to be heavy and prone to brittleness issues unless you're particular with your plastic. Between prototyping, printing, print failures, specialty components, testing, and everything else, I really couldn't recommend it unless you're already handy as an engineer on some level.

you can pick up used 1080tis for pretty good. Get one of those, a Ryzen 3600 and a b450 motherboard and 32gigs of ddr3200 ram. Get a decent 750watt PSU. I did that to whip up a cheapy second PC for bros to play on.

That shit wont cost you much and will compete with a 3060. In the future, you can upgrade as high as a 5800X3D and comfortably run up to a 4080 tier card on the same MOBO and ram. Means in the future you can actually squeeze quite a bit of life out of it. By the time the 1080ti is dogshit those new GPUs will be cheap secondhand. I'm sure like a RX7900XTX will not hold much value a few years down the line

It's done more or less. Though currently I'm copying shit to a bigger SSD so I guess it's still getting upgraded.
I decided against a platform change and stuck with previous gen Ryzen to use RAM I already had, so it's a 5800X3D, RTX 4080, 32 GB of DDR4 3200, 7.5 TB of SSD storage, crammed violently into this dinky case.
I love how small it is. I got a tough ass IP67 certified carry case for it too. It's so diddy I can easily grab it and plug it in to the TV downstairs which is great.
Before I had an upstairs PC and a downstairs PC which was an expensive ballache

      Anonymous

What kind of Motherboard would fit in that small case?

        Anonymous

        any ITX formfactor board.
ITX boards are both much more expensive and have much less functionality than regular ATX boards, so you really have to want to build a micro PC.
Also building small form factor is a total c**t to actually do unless you have some slender hands.
        I have this:
        https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B450-I-AORUS-PRO-WIFI-rev-10#kf
It only supports > O N E < PCI-E card, so you really are building a nerfed PC that's geared towards gaming.
It also requires a 240mm AIO cooler to actually work or it overheats. So it's dumb and expensive but I thought it was worth it.
I shoved a tiny noctua fan in with the motherboard to drag more air in for the the VRM cooling. It also has an undervolt that auto applies at boot, which is really another hard requirement. However, temperatures are now basically perfect, even running Prime 95 and Furmark at the same time doesn't push anything too high.
I was playing Cyberpunk with full path-tracing, everything ultra, in 4K, and using DLSS performance mode plus frame generation in my living room shit runs like butter and plays fine, didn't notice the latency or see any drop in visual quality at that distance/set up.
I love this little homie like you wouldn't beleive, I take it everywhere. Currently in the process of building the ROM library of the universe for our next cabin holiday

          Anonymous

It depends on the case, but yeah, I agree. Building with ITX can be really tough. It used to be way worse when they first came out though. I remember the HTPC format cases with no removable board tray and sharp edges all over. Looked like I tried to box a bobcat by the time I was done with that build.

I did one in the Meshilicious. Decided it was too big so did this one. Even that was a pain. The Dan case is definitely doable but like, I want to upgrade one of the NVME drives and I just can't bear the idea of ever having to assemble it again so I'm just not gonna bother. There's just insane tolerances in this case especially with a dumbass AIO with infinity mirrors which alsmost touches the side panel (I've completly gone off RGB now anyway)

        Anonymous

What's good about this case is it takes chungus GPUs.
picrel is the GPU, it fits a 4080 founders edition which is a pretty big ass card. You can see that the tolerances are down to like 1 millimetre, putting the side panel on was stressful

Extremely weird, but it does work for whatever reason. Was playing rdr2 on max settings for 5 hours earlier and didn't heat up a little. I was thinking of just changing the lights to solid white or blue so my cpu fan fits a little.

Why a white cooler? Clashes with the rest of the build, unless there was nothing in the same price bracket that was black.
Then again I'm the dumbass that went with the non-black NH-D15 here

moronic planning on my part, but I'll try an fix it (see above). I kind of think the white cooler looks cool , would look cooler if there was like 1 other white piece in my case

          Anonymous

can't argue with that shit. To be fair it's a big old roomy case. I'd be interested how it cools with the bottom fans off, I'll bet that rear fan is doing most of the heavy lifting.
Also does anyone else get fricking triggered by the way the majority of cases end up with the CPU cooler and rear fan almost but not quite lining up? Why can't we get one case that lines the two up nice and centred?

I was real tempted to budget more for a 7950X3D, but it didn't feel worth the asking price, and having to gimp it to half-cores for game workloads anyways.

I used PBO2 to set an undervolt of 125 millivolts (a value of -25 in the app) which dramatically lowers temps idle and under load for identical-to-occasionally-better performance. There's basically no reason to not try an undervolt as you're only going to extend the life of the CPU.
          I followed the guide here:

I never understood this shit. You basically have to get the extra-wide cases to do that, and even then you have to be careful about it so it doesn't protrude where the back panel sits. It's not like airflow from the backside matters that much, so you could just freely twist tie the smaller shit, like the fricking front i/o connectors.
