Hows that game you said you're making coming along, son? Are you completing it yet?
No? Didn't you tell me you were making a game two years ago now?

For me, it's O3DE.

>documentation is sparse for most modules
Oh but thank god there's support for in-app purchases and it's well-documented.
Just can't be a game without microtransactions!
of course the engine is nvidia's b***h
Why does Physx feel so damn obtuse to work with?
It's old and busted.
Nvidia don't care about their technologies, they make their shit specifically to frick AMD users, then abandon it when they smell something more profitable on the horizon. Watch it happen to RTX.
im a gamemaker refugee. looking to get back into making platformers for my own personal enjoyment. gamemaker is now on some sort of subscription model. anything that vaguely resembles gamemaker but is also free? thanks.
Just get Godot, it's free and GDScript is easy to learn. The editor is like 50mb.
No I'm just an ideas guy and there's a million creative skills Id rather/need to focus on before actually making a game.
i hope untiy fire their CEO soon
It's funny because immediately after they got EA's old CEO in charge, he pushed to make the company public and started trading it to his advantage.
He's going to do the same shit he did in EA: frick the customers for a quick buck and get out when he starts looking bad. Pump and dump.
Unity is so screwed it's not even funny.
good thing godot is my new wife
That's fine if you're into ditzy airheads.
Actually it's probably better that way now that I think of it.
Hopefully I can learn enough before he crashes the ship that I can switch to godot and ignore the troony shit
>Didn't you tell me you were making a game two years ago now?
Definitely no
You tell me.
twitter?
uwu?
dat's a man, baby.
You're not wrong.
what are you making you degenerate?
Better be good.
cute girl. what's the polycount?
>girl
All anthro "males" are girls in my presence
is anubis getting a 3D remaster before the original is even out?
That heart should be using all the pride colours
I'm new to programming and I want to make a game with Love2D but Lua is too difficult to learn.
What is it that you're having trouble with?
I'm doing the sheepolution tutorial and it's easy enough but I don't think I'd be able to remember the code, then I accidently clicked a later page in the tutorial and you have to type loads of code and it looks confusing.
Yeah lua syntax is fricked and the official reference is archaic and badly organized. Only boomers and autists use it. Good luck.
>Didn't you tell me you were making a game two years ago now?
I finished that one last year and moved onto my next game.
the heat is making me procrastinate yeap thats what it is for sure
>need to make music for gaem

post gaem
Playing chops help, but the most important part is having an intuitive library of musical ideas.
Go transcribe jingle bells in your DAW if your game needs something like that. That'll help more than just playing or listening to it.
I dont know what a DAW is or whwt youre asking. Play small sound clips, chop them up and mix them in a player?
Same, i r tarded.
Next time, i want to go over it one more time before sharing.
I feel like the issue is that there doesn't seem to be any real beginners music programs. Like, all the ones I saw were set up in overly complicated ways and used a lot of technical terms. They need to make a program that is ACTUALLY for people who are just starting.
And yeah, I'm sure there are some, but I've been burned on so many "Yeah man this one is great for beginners" programs at this point that I'm not really up for trying another any time soon.
https://www.bandlab.com/mix-editor
You can try this DAW, it's not for beginners or anything but it's free just use a throwaway email, no verification needed. Not the best selection of sounds for vidya but enough to get started making music. I recommend finding a really simple video game song and trying to copy it.
I mean get a transcription app and load in some music you want to mimic or learn. You can clearly see the melodic lines and chords that way. Some apps, like deCoda, give pretty good estimates about the key and harmonies (even some DAWs - Digital Audio Workstations - have this feature). All of them should let you slow the tempo and isolate regions so you can pick out details that fly by too quickly in realtime.
Then in your sequencer / DAW copy the notes and timing and play it back with virtual instruments, see if you got it in the ballpark. No piano chops needed but note entry will be laborious. Once you've successfully copied it in, try editing it a bit, then writing your own tracks in that style. Maybe transcribe a few pieces in that style before trying your own thing?
That's how to do music as an amateur.
I see, its kind of like this which ive been learning from.
Still, i got find a book on technicall terms like cresendo and other music jargon like melody and waltz.
Yeah start with basic theory to understand and communicate using the terms. The most important stuff is right at the beginning.
>intervals
>rhythm & tempo
>dynamics
>keys & scales
>chords
>MAYBE harmonic analysis, if you care
After that, academic theory is mostly just giving handjobs to Bach or Mozart or whatever composer the source features
>see how he subverted our expectations and substituted the dominant??? here's 4 chapters dedicated to other dead guys doing this, too
>dont ever do parallel 5ths guize, it's bad, because if the supreme masters didn't do it so that means it's bad
It's all bullshit past the terminology. Just find music you like and transcribe.
It doesn't hurt to learn to read notation.
I tried to learn a bit of music, not so I could make full songs, but so I could get some little tunes laid out for my music guy to work off of. He suggested some super basic programs to me, and after messing with them for a week and still being unable to figure out how to lay out a single note, I gave up. I need something that Mario Paint levels of brain dead simple.
not that guy but i use beepbox exactly for the thing you just mentioned, even have some stuff i ended up liking by myself that i snuck in as incidental music here and there.
Look at this video. What do I need to add (other than original music, which I'm dealing with) before I release in demo or early access. Also, should I release it as early access or as a demo?
Enemies that take flanking positions.
Looks fun. The main thing I think is missing is more sound effects. This list is what I think would be important:
> damaging and killing enemies (these should be noticeable since they're important feedback)
> jumping (there's a quiet grunt, but maybe something more, like the sound of friction against the ground)
> landing
> picking up weapons
> switching weapons
> dashing/sliding
> getting health (just a tiny blip sound or something)
> highlighting buttons in the menu
> level transitions
Just small sounds to indicate these help provide feedback and make the game feel more complete.
Great ideas anon. I've been meaning to do a sound overhaul for a while now buy didnt really know what to do.
Also a good idea, I will most likely be adding those in another level actually
How do I modify this shader to actually use the texture image instead of just a circle?
http://www.shaderslab.com/demo-49---spotlight.html
Hello sir.
Try posting an on-topic image next time.
Yes i am and took adivices from anons and started changing fonts
Left is old right is new
Left is better simply because it's not some zoomer twitter post
bot post
All my shitpost are written personally
>if post=="bot post" makePost("All my shitpost are written personally")
Fix your script bro
Right is better, simply because the size is easier to read.
Don't think the font type even mattered.
Heh, maybe you should do a berserk or rage archetype with the description in ALLCAPS
Whats the legality behind omnisphere 2?
If I buy it I get to use the samples they give for free on commercial products right?
It looks like the only rules are I cant share the samples and cant resell them.
If it couldn't be used in commercial productions, nobody would use it lol
Yeah it's fine, you're just not allowed to makes "tracks" from a single bare preset and sell that by itself. Basically don't sell the isolated presets and samples, actually layer some things together or make / edit some presets yourself.
Okay, if I'm using a standalone sfx for like a hit sound or something in my game thats fine right? Or does it need to be layered too? I wouldnt be selling "player hit 03" or some shit like that.
That's probably fine as long as you don't purposefully expose it to the end user to steal (like leaving the audio files unencrypted after installation). I wouldn't trust my legal expertise in that area, to be frank.
Learning monogame has been really fun. It takes a bit longer to get started vs a pre-built engine, but once you do it feels much faster to add exactly what you need.
how do i use guhdough
guhdon't
I'm only one person and as it turns out, I am very stupid and lazy.
>I'm only one person and as it turns out, I am very stupid and lazy

We all are.
Hey you know how starvation diets work?
Basically you stop eating, and after 3 days of hell you become happy and focused.
Try that with Ganker (or your procrastination of choice).
>Basically you stop eating, and after 3 days of hell you become happy and focused
how do I feel happy and focused if I start seeing every living being as carbs after 2 days
AFTER 3 days of hell, anon. AFTER.
I do one thing per day
Been using Urho3d recently, anyone else use it? Like a better version of Ogre I'm liking it a lot
I'm reading up on Ancient Rome for inspiration for a gladiator rpg.
i was playing with cel shaders for a manga look and had so much fun i decided to start a side project based on BLAME using some of my b-team models. it'll be a 3D megastructure adventurer and gravity gun shooter. something easier to work on while the magnum opus elf game slowly marinates.
which shader do you guys think looks better? single-color, two-tone, or pure black and white? yeah i know they both look like shit
and here's the pure black and white
which do you think works better for this aesthetic?
I like the extra color, just be conservative with it or it will obviously devalue the point of the character being mostly B&W.
thanks anon, yeah it's a tough line to toe. i love the b&w but games almost require color to distinguish different gameplay elements tbh. still haven't made up my mind but i guess experimentation is the joy of making games as a solodev
gonna follow some tutorials and try to get the hatch shading thing down.
I like the black and white, but you should probably go color for $. I like the aesthetic choices you made so far. What type of systems do you think you will have? Crafting? Some type of economy? Just curious what type of adventure genre you imagine building.
>megastructure
shiiitt homie thats all you had to say. Where do I preorder?
thanks much friend. hope you like climbing giant spiral staircases & exploring utility access rooms the size of tokyo. don't have much online presence now but here's my youtube (which is way overdue for an update) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1prb_BJ_f0Y
yeah i still just don't know about the color thing...
like you said most audiences expect vidyas to be colorful, on the other hand i think b&w matches the bleak posthuman world quite well. guess i'll keep prototyping and seeing what works best.
I know I'm just one dude but I can't wait to see what you come up with. Futuristic megastructures hit that sweetspot of my most favorite things especially in game.
In my game I'm making a space elevator and a underground biolab complex. But its a tactical game like FFT. I don't think it will end up as cool as a real time adventure game.
I definitely subbed, good luck anon. I mean it. I want to see that shit someday soon.
Is libgdx a good engine for making 2D games?
I think I annoy people when I post my stuff. I frequent these threads too often with little to no progress.
>I think I annoy people when I post my stuff
Why even think about this? There's a plenty of people who shamelessly shitpost and you're entitled to be just as good. Just make posts for your own fun
Who gives a shit? The only people who get annoyed by small progress posts are irrelevant and awful.
I'm trying to make a catchy song for my Unity turn based battle system. I made this one but I'm trashing it since it sounds too much like Isaac's battle theme from Golden Sun, especially in the first part. At least it was good practice for using the Star Ocean/Valkyrie Profile soundfont.
https://vocaroo.com/15o3wJapo0Xa
Sounds fine. Golden Sun was released over 20 years ago, I'm sure nobody is going to make any parallels unless your game is an homage to it.
Sounds great. How do you rip PS1 games' soundfonts?
Thanks.
I don't really know, sorry. However, there's quite a few .sf2 files you can find online. For the one I've used, look up VS-SOSS-Full-Soundfont on google.
>post demo on Ganker
>9 downloads, most people don't boot it up
>post demo on Steam
>1k downloads per day, healthy amount of people actively playing it
If you ever make a Steam Page, make a demo to launch on your store page day one. It is very very good.
Post demo
it's been so long........ progress is all but a distant dream nowadays.
just force yourself to do a little tinh bit each day. even watching 1 tutorial and implementing it is really good for you and takes less than an hour for something small
eventually it gets easier as your skills grow… and then it gets fun. and then you’re addicted. but there’s worse things to be addicted to
I hate rocket science

Names don't really mean anything in music projects.
Look at this mess. I'll probably never see it again either.
>Names don't really mean anything in music projects
yeah and that's why people never finish projects or get overwhelmed
It's hard to be fast and careful. Not saying organization is bad, but in the time it takes to select the name field and type something out on qwerty, you could have put down a melody and moved on.
I keep getting depressed over how long it would take and I'm totally undecided on what engine to use, and I barely know any programming languages.
Here, I'll help:
2 months. Godot. GDScript.
Make something with that.
Steam page (+demo) is up, wishlist if you like it.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1547010/NEET/
Next few weeks will be user-reported bug fixing and shilling to youtubers. Let me know if you know a good list of streamers who like this kind of moronic games
Thumbnail looks like a Space Marine
Intentional?
Damn I still think that the cover image is really good, iirc you said you did it with AI but could you give more details?
used midjourney's 10$ sub and photobashed a little under a dozen pictures together to get what I wanted along with some heavy manual editing here and there. Process took a day of gen+photoshop
love that cover art bro, also you are gonna make it.
I'm too stressed out about Unity's stock losing 60%.
Slowly making progress. Art takes me the longest since im a novice in it. But I like how its shaping up
I added baked global illumination to my engine
It uses Quake .map files for geometry, heres what the first level looks like all lightmapped, global illumination doesn't do much here, but it removes the completely dark spots
Nice map, wow.
Wait, would this tool work with Unity? Is it easy to use/learn?
Help, Unity won't work with my 3D models from Blender, like the navmesh is fricked and won't register
Is GDScript easy to learn?
was for me
just watch some intro tut videos on youtube
How do I even get the Killer7 shader to work? I've been trying to make on like this and nothing.
Would people find my game too derivative if I do get it up and running? It's such a provocative style.
Going on 3 now. Life stuff is a real b***h sometimes, having to deal with granny getting vascular dementia. I'm still kicking though.
>It's an I have to write dialogue episode
I know that feel. It's especially hard when you're an ESL.
I know that feel all too well.
same
Slowly but surely making my game (as you can see in vid), signed up for a bachelor of interactive media/game design course but they got me doing photography and drawing before I can even touch UE4 in class.
I get why, but its annoying and i just would like some teacher help because the current teachers are illustration and movie homos and not game gays which I would prefer.
Actually looks pretty cool
I haven't worked on it in a couple weeks. been reading manga instead
