Hows the PS2 version of Half Life? I've never played Half Life and thought it could be good, but am I better just sticking with the pc version? Or maybe even the Dreamcast version?

I think it's loads alot, been years since I've played it though.
Thats how i played it. It's fine, just some slowdown here and there. You can lock onto enemies with a button but it supports mouse and keyboard too.
My introduction to the series. There was a mod that imported the HD (for the time) models into the PC version, but I've since lost track of it. It's a better take on HL1 than Black Mesa is
half life PS2 is a port and not a remake like black mesa you zoomoid moron
pretty sure you're the fricking moron here
>half life PS2 is a port and not a remake like black mesa
Never said it was a remake, but what the PS2 port does with Half-Life 1 is similar to what people claim Black Mesa does, all without destroying Xen and making the entire game piss easy
PC Version with bilinear texture filtering turned off through the console for the original experience as it existed on release. The PS2 models are moronic looking and take away the soul. Also why the frick would you want to play an FPS with controller in sub-60 frames per second? The port was a weird novelty much like UT99 but theres no reason to play it now.
>am I better just sticking with the pc version?
Yes
This. Here is my userconfig.cfg. Put it in the Half-Life/valve/ folder, and add "exec userconfig.cfg" to the end of config.cfg.
fps_override 1
fps_max 144
gl_round_down 0
gl_texturemode gl_nearest_mipmap_linear
default_fov 106.270273206
Change the fps_max to your refresh rate. The FOV is for 16:9. You can look up how to calculate it for another ratio. Also, disable HD models in the settings. Have fun
>fps_override 1
High frame rates break the AI. I'd just leave it locked and rely on G-sync.
o right I forgot about that. it makes them turn slowly
high as in over 100? or where does it start to get flakey?
It's a gradual diminishment of their turning speed. Since the cap was traditionally 100, that seems like the reasonable breaking point.
the coop mode is great fun.
I wouldn't recommend playing it on console if you are able to play it on pc. it was really made for mouse and keyboard, so there are times where you need to move and aim pretty quickly to see enemies around you.
You should play the Xbox version of HL2 afterwards.
Not the one you should play first, but a decent curio when you know the PC version front to back.
Overrated. It may have more triangles, but some textures are rather blurry, and it's way too bright.
It doesn't even run that well either.
pc is definitive. everything else is an aftertought. that said, who gives a frick. come talk about it after you tried it.
The new tutorial was neat and the loading was quite bad. It's pretty much the same either way, besides the obvious drawbacks of being on console.
you can play it with mouse/keyboard(usb2) and in widescreen
Load times are short (it's a CD game, shorter if you use HD loading.) Game looks great, runs smoothly (targets 60fps, mostly hits it) and has a cool lock on system where you can still adjust vertical aim. Any Half-Life fan will enjoy it.
It's fine, I guess, but the entire game runs and plays like it's in a Software mode, which I'm pretty sure it is? It's adequate and some of the tweaks are neat, like 3D health and HEV charge model stations that reflect their use, and if you have a buddy and don't mind some real bullshit Decay is neat and all. But at this point it's a novelty, rather than some secret definitive version or the like, and the fact that the lock-on makes the overly-sensitive analog aiming bearable should tell you what you need to know about controlling it.
the console versions of half life are really only good for the novelty, even decay is already playable on PC with a fan port.
The only part about it that I absolutely hate is the audio. You either get your ears blown out by the guns or you can't hear what anyone is saying and I don't think there was subtitles.
Aside from that it's cool. It's got a neat lock-on system which I haven't seen many shooters use.
It's like Metroid Prime's lock on (or I guess Metroid Prime's is like Half-Life's) but still requires some skill to fine tune.
Oh yeah, true! I wish it got used more often.
