She's a character who serves a narrative hook and purpose, and can defend herself reasonably for being born under a constant oppressive regime and has developed skills that make her reliable that our character wouldn't be able to have for being in stasis (aka combine tech hacking). The fact she's black is so completely unimportant that you could look at her directly and not even consider it until you're asked to physically describe her.
What characters people usually complain about is when being black IS the character and they serve no purpose other than being black, in a backwards racist kind of thinking that only hurts more than it helps.
She's strong and smart, but not overpowered by bullshit means that take control away from the player and the stablished MC, and even in the latest interaction of her character, she's shown to have weak moments that have her tricked into being captured.
It's a believable person, rather than a mockery made just to earn woke points.
I've always complained about her because she's a crappy character. However she's not a dealbreaker like modern inclusive wahmen characters. But she was the prototype.
