If Shadows of Change was anything to go by then the writing is already on the wall. The Chorf DLC was decent all things considered, its primary issue being the price hike. But Shadows of Change is a bafflingly low effort follow up and whatever bean counter decided on the price is just shooting the company in the foot for no good reason. The stupid thing is that people would be more inclined to deal with the price if they had just put in a little more effort to make sure each faction got a LL, generic Lord, and new Hero type. Nor would it have been that much more effort overall when you consider that something like a generic Hag Lord would have just been copying Ostankya's entity/code and giving it new voice lines. Why they would sabotage a guaranteed revenue stream with something like 4ish years left in it that only needed a relatively reasonable amount of effort put into it makes no sense.

It is the sort of series that most major devs/publishers would kill for since it can be such a simple money printer. Quite literally the only thing that makes any sense to me would be if GW started wanting to renegotiate the IP license and had uppity demands as then I could understand why CA would stop caring about the series to the point of even wanting it to die. I doubt they were ever going to get the 40K license anyway to make a TW 40K game.

You dont know a lot about pricing do you? All things considered these people know historically the range of sales that they can accrue, they probably have an easy percentage formula that says: at best 15% of people purchase DLC. This means they are looking at a certain outcome and therefore they try to squeeze money out of it. CA like many other companies in the past (when growth was fueled by easy and cheap money) was hiring too many people, paying management too much money and in general forgot about the fact that they are not an AAA studio and that their only golden goose was an old and decrepit one - Total war never sold that well, the entire series has brought in around 1 billion in its entirety, over 25 years that is not a lot of money.
Regardless, they are trying to price things to make money and if they just took 75% less money for their product, they still would not generate the sales that are necessary to sustain their business. Whether their goodwill in such a case would lead to supportive reddit fanboyism and a sort of cult following is another question entirely.

Except that TWW1 was in the top 10 for overall sales monetarily for the year it came out. The series made money hand over fist once the TWW2 DLC cycle got into full swing. It was making them a really decent amount of money with relatively simple effort. The sales for Shadows was half of what the Chorf DLC was and that was even with people b***hing about the price of the Chorf DLC and still selling really well.

Yeah, it's a basic tower defense gacha. It's relatively generous (haven't spent a dime and I unlocked a bunch of sex scenes with a bunch of dudes) and its primary advantage is that it's the only gay furry gacha with ACTUAL H-scenes. Also the MC is lame as frick in every sense of the word so don't get discouraged by the start of the game. Eventually he gets phased out for actually hot anthro dudes, especially if you start playing seasonal event maps.

Primary driving force behind multiplayer shooter is gameplay. So you need to find and make satisfying core gameplay that stands out in the oversaturated FPS market. And then build everything else on top of that gameplay. Large part of finding this game is just trial and error. Like I said if people knew receipts they would be stamping out success at will.

Decide from the outset are you FPS oriented or ASSgay/RTS oriented, what is going to be the operative skill for common gameplay. Are you going to be pure heroes with set movesets or are you going to be more classes/archetypes. How do you design maps to include your other design choices so they don't all play the same, ditto for map objectives. What movement systems do you have and how are weapons designed around it. To what degree of playstyle customization are you going to have (you WILL have playstyle customization to some degree, paladin's cards, tf2 weapon slots, something so that people can adjust how they want to play). How do you make every hero/class feel valuable during the game. Do you make every hero/class equally valuable; do you make them have value only in certain parts of phases of the game. How many players do you have per match, more players means less individual responsibility but also more chance for the game to get bogged down. Do you have neutral factions on the map.
Overwatch fails all these different parts: every time you play a hero they play the exact same for every situation, every map is designed for the exact same choke point fiestas where half the map is functionally useless because someone getting picked dicking around up there loses the entire section for the team. OW doesn't have maps with resources or secondary objectives to control so positioning doesn't actually matter beyond picks making it impossible to be strategic or even tactical but the MMO trinity, alongside zero unifying movement mechanic (no momentum, no boost/dashes, no mounts even) kills all FPS (atomic) skill. And if the healer-tank-DPS dynamic doesn't ruin your FPS skill judgement it means that healers and/or tanks aren't necessarily performing their role so you should ask if there even needs to be the trinity (paladins hovers around this one). Healers are terribly unfun in OW (but not in HotS), and tanks get shit on since pushes die with them

Of course the player is an outlier and their expression will lead to many solutions you never intended for, but that's where the dev. needs to provide challenges that test a range of these expressions. Luckily, PvE allows some breathing room when balancing despite the amount of resources you have to account for: AI, directors, Class viability/ independence, map design, etc.
You bringing up Overwatch and explaining it's lack of depth or thought behind the design has made me realize the importance of playtesting, applying player psychology, and understanding the inner workings of influential games. That, and how other companies just saw ways of monetization after Blizzard's success without taking the player experience into account. While I can say I'm making a game with classes how will that entice people who are fatigued by this twisted AAA trend? Maybe that's my uncertainty and low confidence with the project (which I put on hold recently), but I guess I'm looking to not turn people away from my game.
OW does actually have healthpacks that I think counts as resources, but the problem is that these healthpacks are mostly useless with the presence of healers and with how they're so off the beaten path.
I haven't played Paladins in a long fricking time but the card system was cool as frick.

Depends on the army you're playing. Skaven, Greenskins and Vampire Counts can have a lot of chaff units with many models. There are up to 20 units on each side.

Numerous units have 160-200 heads, more elite infantry are usually 100-120, super elite infantry or numerous cavalry hover around 60-100, monstrous units are like 16-24, and then you get outliers like single entities or super small elites like aspiring champs. Things like skaven can flood the field with thousands with a single army, whereas elves usually barely breach 1000 per army.

CA don't have control over it and SEGA have historically been very inconsistent about underperforming service products, so it's hard to say. It's entirely possible they keep throwing good money after bad until the next one's shippable.
