It's all about equipment and strategy, but if you don't give a shit there are multiple ways of becoming overpowered and overleveling is already incredibly easy without being a cheating b***h. And there's the invisibility spell for avoiding encounters altogether.
BS2 does at better job at balancing shit and good luck with DLC3 which forces you to actually use your brain, because even with maxed out stats the common mobs can frick you up if you're not prepared, not to mention bosses.

Your artistry improves over time, however I would say making games is generally a creative task, most games need music, writing, art and level design skills to be made (and of course how to program in whatever engine you're using), granted you only really need to excel in a couple of those areas and if your games scope is low enough programming shouldn't be an issue
EMMM's art evolution is the definition of hard work showing results rather than innate talent, and even then it's still far from what I'd call masterful art. He's got a good sense for design and style at least.

No, none of those were made for Black Souls. This dude just designs monsters packs and has no relation to EMMM whats however. They are not free though, like a lot of the music, EMMM still had to pay for them, but they were not designed specifically for BS. I do think Pickman's designs of the Wonderland characters are some next level shit.

You can beat the entire game at SL1 if you're good enough.
Anyways, the Chaos Dungeon isn't strictly required, though the loredump after defeating the Old King is highly encouraged to see, same with the RNG library. You should find the Old King at Depth 9, so ~180-200 floors deep. It doesn't take very long if you hit squirrels, use fur, and just beeline for switches and doors. Hit up whatever golden chests and flying books you see on your way down too.

It's more than just the lance there that's based off that original image. What the horse itself is has changed, but the angle which it's drawn at is virtually identical to his BS1 sprite, same with the general idea of the image being that of him charging at you with his cape billowing behind him. BS2 improves upon the combat, the atmosphere, the art and the writing to the point it seems like a different game entirely. It's actually fun to play. BS2 is where all the praise for the series comes from, enjoy anon.
It's a dark souls parody/clone in name only. The exploration component is minimal, the battles aren't that interesting or challenging in either, and most people are here to coom at mediocre Zanzibart shit dressed up in fairy tale themed garb.
Pretty much any of the original story ideas are shoved in the last hour or two of a twenty hour game. The second game does a lot more with the story ideas established in the first game.

BS2 combat is good with all the weapon switching. There's actual strategy involved. I don't know how he did it but EMMM managed to make RPG Maker combat fun.

Objectively speaking, the gameplay is weak, the plot takes literally 90% of the game to get good, and the >graphics are either stock RPG Maker assets or, well, I'm sure everyone knows what BS1's art is like by now. That isn't to say it's an awful game by any stretch, but it definitely deserves its reputation as being the worse game when compared to BS2, and for not being an amazing game in general. Even SOVL and a pretty strong finish to the game aren't enough to bring the entire game up to snuff.
I enjoyed BS1 better but only because the combat was easier. BS2 just outright filtered me out of a bunch of content at least the first game allowed me to experience everything as long as I grinded a bit.
BS2 is nothing but bullshit challenges where you have to abuse you being able to spam items infinitely per turn and changing weapons 8 times and going through a million menus for 5 minutes per round. Frick that shit.
Yes, and? Everything can be solved through player skill and strategy, rather than through grinding and RNG. Learning to abuse the combat system, especially on SL1 runs, is an experience few RPGs gave me. D:OS on tactician (I really should try some higher difficulty mods) and Underrail on hard (I need to try DOMINATING one of these days) were also fun as frick.

I'll save you a world of hassle now, NG+ is a thing in BS, and you are strongly recommended to take advantage of it when possible. BS2 is specifically built around using it.

You can just ignore the boss fight, there's an area you can explore if you move to the left of the house. And as a general tip, if you're getting your ass beat, try exploring elsewhere. You can go to endgame areas very early on, the game's very nonlinear.

Depends on just how deep you want to dive into the lore. If you want to REALLY loregay, you'll want to make La-Mulana tier notes. If you're not, just going through all heroine endings and C/D should be enough. Also you should probably remember Prayer Master, the rabbit which leveled you up.

DRH should come out in a few months, after which EMMM is likely to take a break. He might start working on the 5 princesses game at the beginning of 2025, probably taking 2.5 years, so it'll release in the middle of 2027, after which he might take a break again. He'll start working on BS3 at the beginning of 2028, and with BS3 development taking probably around 3 years, we'll get to see BS3 in 2031. Then we'll probably get DLC like we did for BS1/2, meaning the series will be complete sometime in 2032/2033.

Yes, a lot of missable shit. But it makes all the more cool to find it on your own. You can ask the threads for advice on cool missable events when you're done with the games.
Do all endings, there's a hints.txt file in the game folder which tells you how to get different endings. Do not touch it on your first playthrough, do it fully blind. On NG+ do the endings alphabetically.

BS, just like e.g. Witcher and most JRPGs, is not an RPG. The main character receives a lot of characterisation you can't control, so you can't exactly roleplay. Especially in the sequel where there's a lot of internal monologue.
If you turn it off, make sure you turn it back on before you finish filling out the library. The climax of the story (hue hue) is in an NSFW scene.

It's all about equipment and strategy, but if you don't give a shit there are multiple ways of becoming overpowered and overleveling is already incredibly easy without being a cheating b***h. And there's the invisibility spell for avoiding encounters altogether.
BS2 does at better job at balancing shit and good luck with DLC3 which forces you to actually use your brain, because even with maxed out stats the common mobs can frick you up if you're not prepared, not to mention bosses.

A significant portion of Black Souls is made with assets that already come with RPG Maker and royalty free music/sound effects.
Your artistry improves over time, however I would say making games is generally a creative task, most games need music, writing, art and level design skills to be made (and of course how to program in whatever engine you're using), granted you only really need to excel in a couple of those areas and if your games scope is low enough programming shouldn't be an issue

that's a gross oversimplification. his sprite is just a guy in plate armor on an armored horse with a lance, lindamea in BS2 looks like cthulhus chosen knight with all the tentacles, horns and eyes coming out of his head. it's true that EMMM used the sprite as a reference because the lance is still there but he elevates lindamea to something much more interesting and fitting for the series.

No, none of those were made for Black Souls. This dude just designs monsters packs and has no relation to EMMM whats however. They are not free though, like a lot of the music, EMMM still had to pay for them, but they were not designed specifically for BS. I do think Pickman's designs of the Wonderland characters are some next level shit.

Anyways, the Chaos Dungeon isn't strictly required, though the loredump after defeating the Old King is highly encouraged to see, same with the RNG library. You should find the Old King at Depth 9, so ~180-200 floors deep. It doesn't take very long if you hit squirrels, use fur, and just beeline for switches and doors. Hit up whatever golden chests and flying books you see on your way down too.

It's more than just the lance there that's based off that original image. What the horse itself is has changed, but the angle which it's drawn at is virtually identical to his BS1 sprite, same with the general idea of the image being that of him charging at you with his cape billowing behind him. For all intents and purposes, this is one of many examples of EMMM recycling a generic/premade sprite/design into his own design style.

It's because it's the only part of him that we constantly see when talking to him, and it's really the only part of him that's identifiable at a glance as well, which is an important element when it comes to meme shit. For yet another example of such a thing happening, look no further than Jabber. These aren't 1-1 recreations of the original sprites for hopefully obvious reasons, but their designs are very blatantly based off of them.

Yeah, BS1 sadly suffers from the "it gets good 10 hours in, trust me bro" syndrome. Luckily you're past the rough parts already. Objectively speaking, the gameplay is weak, the plot takes literally 90% of the game to get good, and the >graphics are either stock RPG Maker assets or, well, I'm sure everyone knows what BS1's art is like by now. That isn't to say it's an awful game by any stretch, but it definitely deserves its reputation as being the worse game when compared to BS2, and for not being an amazing game in general. Even SOVL and a pretty strong finish to the game aren't enough to bring the entire game up to snuff.

I enjoyed BS1 better but only because the combat was easier. BS2 just outright filtered me out of a bunch of content at least the first game allowed me to experience everything as long as I grinded a bit.
Finding a decent (non-bullshit) challenge in RPGs is relatively difficult, so I really enjoyed BS2.

I'll save you a world of hassle now, NG+ is a thing in BS, and you are strongly recommended to take advantage of it when possible. BS2 is specifically built around using it.

Yes, a lot of missable shit. But it makes all the more cool to find it on your own. You can ask the threads for advice on cool missable events when you're done with the games.
Do all endings, there's a hints.txt file in the game folder which tells you how to get different endings. Do not touch it on your first playthrough, do it fully blind. On NG+ do the endings alphabetically.

BS2 is like 40 hours minimum, longer without a guide.

BS, just like e.g. Witcher and most JRPGs, is not an RPG. The main character receives a lot of characterisation you can't control, so you can't exactly roleplay. Especially in the sequel where there's a lot of internal monologue.
If you turn it off, make sure you turn it back on before you finish filling out the library. The climax of the story (hue hue) is in an NSFW scene.

Sounds like ending F/G. You still have ending H, which is DLC3, and lay's most of it out. Ending B, if you haven't got it yet, is important too, and so is reaching the moon
